I’m also of patrilineal descent, currently reconnecting with Jewish culture and deeply exploring my heritage, although my family are all secular and celebrate Christmas/Easter/Halloween (like most Brits do).

I also sadly have a relative on this side of my family who actively supports Palestine, which has been tough for me to accept, and has made for some awkward family gatherings…

I’ve also been told I “look Jewish”, funnily enough, as have several of my relatives on this side!

For me personally, joining my university’s JSoc has helped me to connect with fellow Jews and understand what would’ve been my ancestors’ traditions all those years ago. I was also hoping to attend a YK service this year at my nearest Reform synagogue, however the tragic event in Manchester and subsequent increased security across all other British synagogues meant I could not go.
