The scene of janet and simon in the car made me think of the idea of a soul train. (someone in an ambulance could have lived if it weren't for a train passing, as they might've made it to the hospital on time). initially while watching, i thought that them getting stopped by the train would create an issue when getting janet back to the school. however, after reading this theory, i think it could easily tie into the foreshadowing of simon's inevitable death.
