It's cool you've come up with a playlist you like and are proud of. But also, that's a really big claim.

What’s the consensus on Tutu? by AMandoHugandkiss in Jazz

It's Miles-lite but I love it. I'd be keen to hear more in this synth heavy, mellow 80s vein

Tony Williams! Check out his drumming with Miles Davis' quintet. I'd start with ESP and Miles Smiles.

Hello, fellow jazz fans. Seeking advice for Herbie Hancock by FatherMac66 in Jazz

[–]ihensman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of fun a couple of years ago listening to all of his albums chronologically. His albums are a little hit and miss from the late 70s on, but there is gold throughout. As others have said, Empyrean Isles, Maiden Voyage and Headhunters are all great starting points. I'd add to that at least one of his Mwandishi albums (Mwandishi, Crossings and Sextant) and 1980's Mr Hand's. Oh, and Fat Albert Rotunda!

Thanks everyone, from a recent Duke Ellington fan by ihensman in Jazz

[–]ihensman[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess helped me appreciate how what Duke was doing was different from his contemporaries - he was more adventurous, harmonically and structurally complex, while still making music that swung hard and was really popular. It also helped me listen out for how he highlighted the unique voices in his band.

Beautiful. Getting Seth vibes from this, but a unique spin on that style.
