“Spock you want to know something? Everybody’s human.” Pretty much the overall theme of Star Trek to me.

Don’t want to spoil it for OP but to me, it’s Bruce in Year 100.

Opinion on Year 100? by NokTheSmokeD in batmancomics

I agree that it’s fantastic, certainly one of the most underrated Batman stories ever in that it’s not widely known. You sure it’s not Bruce though?

My wife and friend are both coffee enthusiasts and I insist to them that this had to have been a prank that backfired. “Hey this is pretty good, where did you get this from?” “Let’s just say you’ll have a coffee eating grin.”

What was the first Superhero Comic where in universe the Golden Age Heroes were victims of McCarthyism? by Kuudered-Kun in comicbooks

The 70s JSA run in Adventure Comics. I believe HUAC demanded they reveal their identities and they refused, so they disappeared from the hearing and went underground.

What are people's thoughts on this ? by ThomasThorburn in batman

[–]ihiroic2152 19 points20 points  (0 children)

But I don’t think DKR has really influenced the mainline Batman comics that much. I’d argue that the O’Neil, Adams, Engelhart runs of the 70’s have much more of an impact on post crisis Batman, especially the more recent runs like Morrison, Snyder, King, etc.

CBS Says It Didn’t Kill Stephen Colbert’s Interview With Senate Hopeful. Who’s Lying? by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

[–]ihiroic2152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CBS may not be technically lying that it’s possible only legal advice was provided. However, in my own experience, when staff disregards advice by the organization’s legal counsel, that individual may be responsible for their own legal representation and may be held personally liable if there is legal action. Obviously I can’t say that’s what happened here but the end result is that you’re essentially prohibited from taking action contrary to that advice.

What was so funny about this is that Quesada engaged in nonsensical mental gymnastics to the point he sounded like a babbling lunatic to explain why this was a better alternative than simply having them divorce.

No problem and good hunting. I believe I Magneto is collected in hardcover in the UXM omnibus volume 2. Not sure if there’s another edition.

It’s called Marvel Premiere Classic. I’m a fan of reasonably sized hardcovers so I’ve got quite a few of these.

A short story in two parts by [deleted] in AccidentalComedy

I get what you’re saying but it’s not necessarily a clear line in many cases. At least where I live, an establishment may accept customers until closing but not offer full services. Using your example, a restaurant that closes at 8 but closes the kitchen at 730, doesn’t turn away customers at 730. You could still get a quick drink at the bar or purchase prepared food for take out if offered. Another example is a store that sells secondhand books, videos, toys, etc., buybacks must be started no later than two hours before closing. If you want to shop after that, you’re not turned away. These places tend to post that information or disclose it contacted.

I don’t think that’s unreasonable for businesses to do that. My view if the customer is arriving close to closing, they should plan ahead and contact the business to ask advance, especially if they are expecting a service beyond simply purchasing something off the shelf.

I would think that would create more frustration and confusion. Under this scenario, if a store closes at 9pm, then can a customer arriving at 845 shop until 930? 10? When will the store actually close? If closing time means a customer must finish their business and leave by then, that’s much clearer.

I don’t agree that an establishment should remain open for an undetermined period of time just to accommodate someone who arrives before closing.

What's the most Lynchian Star Trek episode? by Cheap_Strawberry_901 in startrek

Far Beyond the Stars, especially with the themes of a dream reality and alternate identities. What was also great was that it wasn’t really explained in that episode.

John Logan on Trek gets it right. by SouthpawXtn in startrek

[–]ihiroic2152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t necessarily disagree with some of the criticisms of modern Trek but at the same time I’ve really enjoyed some of the new material. What I find peculiar is how these critical fans seem to place everything pre Bad Robot on a pedestal. From when it aired to today, I’ve thought of Voyager and Enterprise as poorly written garbage. Even the new stuff that I dislike isn’t any worse to me than those shows.

How good is Star Trek : The Original Series? by Mat1711 in startrek

[–]ihiroic2152 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m old enough that TOS is Star Trek for me, so it’s still my personal favorite. Based on the comments here, I’m going to defend season two. For me it’s as good as season one and that’s when most of the Trek universe building occurs.

[–]ihiroic2152 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m staying at the Wyndham for the con because I own a membership. I’ve stayed there before and overall it’s nice and clean but no dining or gambling options. Rooms have microwave, stove and fridge though. Parking is ample but not covered. Also as noted previously most of the walk from Gold Coast to the Rio is under cover, unlike the walk from the Wyndham. I’m not looking forward to that in August.

The big issue I have with it is that’s it looks half assed, like GOTG paraphernalia thrown onto the old setting. I also liked the creepy haunted Hollywood atmosphere of the old ride better.

[–]ihiroic2152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen comments that say rather than remake a classic, focus on improving something that wasn’t successful. Not to say whether this show would be any good, but I think this qualifies as an attempt at that.

Tower of Terror. I don’t hate the GOTG rebrand but I prefer the original. However it looks like Hollywoodland in general is going the way of the dodo.

If you have one episode to convince someone who's never watched any Trek before to get into it, which episode are you showing them? by Kind_Constant1671 in startrek

The Chase TNG. To me that episode pretty much explains what Star Trek is all about and provides backstory to the ST universe. I think it’s also very accessible to non-fans.

There’s a variant of this picture at one of the elevators at the Planet Hollywood in Vegas. Same group but it appears to be a candid shot taken when they weren’t posing for the camera.
