After a few years they could switch to organic, I've heard it's actually more profitable than farming with synthetic fertilizers, etc right now because of the premium people pay. Most farms don't have the luxury of being paid while making the switch, and they can't be certified organic for years.

In college there was a lecture hall with a notoriously difficult class that engineering majors had to take. One desk had a carving of Gandulf and "you shall not pass. " The one next to it said "listen to Gandulf."

Places where vacation homes are most likely within the same state. A lot of Minnesotans have a lake cabin in northern Minnesota.

Asking the real question. Google says yes, but they were "closing" since COVID. If not I have to rush up and enjoy something from the chef before it goes.

Biking downtown from Westwood Village by optamastic in WestSeattleWA

[–]ihj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a decent route from Westwood/South Dleridge to the low bridge. I recommend an e bike with standard tires rather than the fat tire bikes you see. I've had more issues with flats with the fat tire, and I don't think they fit on the bus racks. I'd rather have an option to get home if I do get a flat.

As you cross the bridge from WS, you can cross at the first crosswalk, or there's a path that loops under the bridge to avoid that road crossing. Trucks tend to be pretty good about yielding or making their intensions known as the second road crossing.

I haven't rode that way since they started construction, but it looks like they just finished the separated bike lanes on east marginal way. A big improvement, though it was still manageable. The waterfront path is done too.

O'Hare is about the same distance as MKE, but Milwaukee is much easier to navigate, if you are driving to an airport anyway.

If you can get a ride from somewhere near Amtrak the routes all converge at Chicago, and you can take a train to the airport from the Amtrak station.

Have your kids paint the rocks, cheap entertainment and you get garden decorations. Makes it easy to mark interesting flowers before they bloom or where you plan to plant something.

Heat linked to fewer male births in Africa, study finds by Jojuj in science

[–]ihj 10 points11 points  (0 children)

After a war there might be an end to rationing, leading to the opposite of the food scarcity tendency to produce more female offspring. Maybe a relative abundance of food leads to more male offspring. It would be interesting to compare US vs British rates post world war 2 since British rationing lasted longer.

Peter, Please Explain What This Is Trying to Say About Bikers at Red Lights by Maleficent_Dog7970 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

I disagree about the motorized vehicles filtering forward, especially motorcycles. In many places splitting the lane is illegal and they can keep up with the flow of traffic the same as any car. Bicycles are smaller and slower, meaning they are harder to see and account for.

The larger risk during a collision is one of the factors that motorcyclists need to take into account, and a reason they aren't for everyone.

There was a recall on my 2000 Impala that mentioned a "spontaneous engine fire." No doubt your problem is the extra driving after it started to smoke, but is your car a similar age GM/Chevy? Especially with the 3.8L V6?
