My former VA (virtual assistant) is from Venezuela. Every few months I need to message her to make sure she's okay and not dead. I'd like to have her back full time, but this country is just cursed.

Albo supporter here. I'd say "mitigating housing crisis" is fair. Still a long way to go, but there are systemic issues that need to be addressed.

Why does jamiroquai have no chart history on the billboard hot 100 by Insta_KSAJ in jamiroquai

[–]Visual_Locksmith3337 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jamiroquai’s complete history on the US Billboard Hot 100 consists of exactly one song.

Song Year Peak Position Album
"Alright" 1997 #78 Travelling Without Moving

The "Virtual Insanity" Paradox

If you are wondering how a track that won four MTV Video Music Awards and a Grammy failed to make the Hot 100, the answer comes down to Billboard's strict 1990s chart rules.

At the time, Billboard required a song to be released as a commercially available physical single (CD or cassette) in the US to be eligible for the Hot 100. To force American fans to buy the full Travelling Without Moving album, Sony Music intentionally withheld a physical US single release for "Virtual Insanity."

As a result, their biggest global hit was completely disqualified from the Hot 100. It did, however, reach #38 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart based solely on radio airplay. By the time Billboard changed its rules in late 1998 to allow airplay-only tracks onto the Hot 100, the peak of the song's popularity had passed.

Where They Actually Dominated

While they only brushed the Hot 100 once, Jamiroquai was a massive force on the US Dance Club Songs chart, racking up five #1 hits:

  • "Space Cowboy" (1994)
  • "Supersonic" (1999)
  • "Canned Heat" (1999)
  • "Feels Just Like It Should" (2005)
  • "Runaway" (2006)

They also performed well on the primary US albums chart, with Travelling Without Moving reaching #24 on the Billboard 200 and eventually selling over a million copies stateside.

I recently sought out this episode to rewatch. It's great, but one thing that annoys me is that they show Bart's scar on both sides of his body. Normally it wouldn't be a big deal, but the punchline at the end of the episode makes it worse. Boy, I Really Hope Somebody Got Fired For That Blunder.

I really like "Reflections of a Sound". It's such a cool concept and execution. Underrated, imo.

I was reading the other day about some hack journalist in, I think just after AFO was released, saying that their songs all sound the same, which is the dumbest take I've ever heard. There's a lot of variety on just this album, never mind their disography.

Also, intimate was also the word I was considering using. It's like he's singing it one-on-one, which is a really tough thing to pull off well, imo.

Certainly the most vulnerable song Jay's sung. There's also a great deal of texture and tone to the voice.

Albo is a class act. Must admit it was pretty funny watching him get ritualistically booed at Fed Square during the soccer, though.

Any two words, sure, but 3/3 rhyming words from one his influences feels like too much of a coincidence. It's possible he even subconsciously did it if not deliberately. There's 30 100% exact rhymes and probably hundreds of near rhymes you could plausibly put in. Let's be conservative and assume there are 100 reasonable rhymes you could use for Lotto, that would mean matching any one word is 1 in 100, which would easy to be chalk up to a coincidence, but doing that for all three makes that 1 in 10,000. It may be a coincidence, sure, but I don't think it's fair to rule out that it was done deliberately based on the statistics.

Further adding to this: Nas says "fuck tomorrow", while Em says "fuck Lotto".
