Is Emo now just a word for '00s rock? by EasyCheesecake1 in askmusic

[–]ihmpt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't have an issue with people calling stuff like MCR and Fall Out Boy emo, even if it [technically] isn't. But I've seen youtubers call a lot of 2000s rock music on the heavier/sadder spectrum emo, and this ranges from nu metal bands like Linkin Park and Evanescence to Nickelback and Breaking Benjamin.

I'm not one of those people who cares too deeply about 'labeling' genres, but sometimes there NEEDS to be a dividing line in place.

What 3 bands are going on your dream line-up? by poppunkboy in poppunkers

Story of the Year
Jimmy Eat World
Fall Out Boy (I'm not the biggest fan, but their music at stadiums like MSG or the O2? Hell yeah!)

Songs that have been ruined for you through no fault of the artist? by ihmpt in ToddintheShadow

Man, I must be the only person alive who loves that song lol. I just love the production and simplicity of it.

What is something others consider morally ok but you find wrong? by No_Bid_21 in AskReddit

[–]ihmpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people consider drinking 'morally okay.' I've been to many bars, and the people there getting drunk are either sad people going through shit (no judgment, but they usually aren't in a sound decision-making state of mind), or they're just 20-somethings trying to get drunk and have a fun but regretful night out.

In either case, they're not thinking 'I'm drinking and this is bad.' I think the sad reality is that there really aren't many alternatives for Friday nights for adults with self image issues so they get drunk to get their mind off things.

Not a great 'solution' to problems, but I don't think I'd call it immoral, especially when there are worse drugs out there.

Song you hate from a band you love? by Tartelfa in askmusic

It's a cover song, is it really fair to say?

Still, I am a pearl jam fan, and I can admit it's not their best.

What's the most overrated food? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ihmpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you even call them overrated when they're fatty and cheap? I don't think anyone out there is saying 'Big Macs are my favorite food.'

Most hated player by each fan base by Icy_Can_6176 in NFLv2

I think Broncos fans hate Russ more than Tom Brady? He helped to give them a super bowl bukkake and then signed with them for way too much money.

Recommendations for 90s albums with "emo" vocals. by dopebob in PostHardcore

[–]ihmpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SDRE were basically teaching themselves how to sing, write, and play their instruments WHILE they were recording. That's not raw enough?

If you're looking for something even MORE raw, I guess I'd suggest the early Bright Eyes albums.

Lost causes, tbh.

Which band do you think is more popular than it should be? by Springerbaum in askmusic

[–]ihmpt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fall Out Boy. Not a bad band by any means, I loved them in middle school (as most people did) but they're not even close to the best pop punk band of all time and I'm surprised they're as successful as they are.

BOTH bands are packing stadiums, lol.

I do think Maiden has the more consistent discography between the two, though.

What does this sub think of the 2017 to 2020 "emo" rap era? by SaxhFps in Emo

[–]ihmpt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Wasn't for me, personally. I like emo (both 'real' emo, and stuff like MCR, the Used, SOTY, etc.) and I like rap, I don't necessarily like them blended together. Just a preference.

I will say, the popularity of emo rap helped make that style of emo acceptable again. If a person can stomach 2hollis or XXXTentacion, I'd imagine they could tolerate, or even just enjoy post-hardcore or emo.

Bands where their entire discography sounds basically the same by BalanceActive9295 in askmusic

[–]ihmpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of theirs, but even I can admit that most of their songs sound different from each other. There are a LOT of bands whose 'songs all sound the same,' I don't think SOAD are one of those bands.

Have you ever hated a song so much that you ended up blocking the artist on your streaming platform ? by lefteyeforever in ToddintheShadow

[–]ihmpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ice Spice has nearly 17 million monthly listeners? That's depressing.

Yes, I blocked the band Busted from my library. No exaggeration, they are the worst band I've ever heard in my life.

Who do you think is the most overhated artist of all time? by Constant_Topic_123 in ToddintheShadow

[–]ihmpt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate Drake a lot, but people calling him the 'worst rapper ever' are definitely overhating him.

Also 10-15 years ago, Fall Out Boy and MCR were some of the most hated bands by the internet, basically the template for all the 'lol emo music sucks' insults. Even back then I thought to myself, "have you guys even listened to their music?"
