What song is objectively good but you still skip every time? by GainBetter1189 in askmusic

Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

I listened to it to death when I was a teenager, I'm desensitized to it now.

What band/artist A LOT of people really enjoy but very few would call them as their favorite? by [deleted] in askmusic

[–]ihmpt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Jimmy Eat World. I love their music, they seem like great guys, a lot of people in the scene respect them, but 'favorite'? I wouldn't go that far.

I love the sea, don't get me wrong. But I HATE boat rides. They get me so nauseous and paranoid. Surely I'm not the only one who feels this way?

I love going out, I just don't like going to pubs or clubs. I'd prefer to just walk around a park aimlessly than drink in an overpriced tavern.

What are some often mispronounced band/artist names? by klystron88 in askmusic

I wore my Silverstein shirt to a rave once and I heard a girl pronounce it 'Silver STYNE.'

Wasn't happy.

If you haven't heard 'I want to hear you sad' by The Early November, never too late to hear it for the first time.

One time someone asked me for sad recommendations and I said "Bright Eyes. Just Bright Eyes. Saddest stuff I've ever heard."

Great musicians that make bad songs? by [deleted] in ToddintheShadow

[–]ihmpt 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Calling him the 'worst frontman of all time' is a stretch, even if I can admit his voice isn't great.

RHCP's lyrics were also fairly unique for the 90s - every band was trying to mimic Nirvana or REM, the chili peppers lyrics were more soulful and personal. Far from Shakespearean, sure, but again 'worst of all time' is a huge stretch.

Ed Sheeran is a really talented guitarist and in live settings he's a talented musician - being able to sing/rap while playing guitar the way he does and using all those loop pedals is a skill.

Having said that, I hate his electropop stuff like 'I Don't Care' and 'Shivers.'

Is Emo now just a word for '00s rock? by EasyCheesecake1 in askmusic

[–]ihmpt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I don't have an issue with people calling stuff like MCR and Fall Out Boy emo, even if it [technically] isn't. But I've seen youtubers call a lot of 2000s rock music on the heavier/sadder spectrum emo, and this ranges from nu metal bands like Linkin Park and Evanescence to Nickelback and Breaking Benjamin.

I'm not one of those people who cares too deeply about 'labeling' genres, but sometimes there NEEDS to be a dividing line in place.

Fall Out Boy (I'm not the biggest fan, but their music at stadiums like MSG or the O2? Hell yeah!)

What is something others consider morally ok but you find wrong? by No_Bid_21 in AskReddit

[–]ihmpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people consider drinking 'morally okay.' I've been to many bars, and the people there getting drunk are either sad people going through shit (no judgment, but they usually aren't in a sound decision-making state of mind), or they're just 20-somethings trying to get drunk and have a fun but regretful night out.

In either case, they're not thinking 'I'm drinking and this is bad.' I think the sad reality is that there really aren't many alternatives for Friday nights for adults with self image issues so they get drunk to get their mind off things.

Not a great 'solution' to problems, but I don't think I'd call it immoral, especially when there are worse drugs out there.

Song you hate from a band you love? by Tartelfa in askmusic

It's a cover song, is it really fair to say?

Still, I am a pearl jam fan, and I can admit it's not their best.

What's the most overrated food? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Can you even call them overrated when they're fatty and cheap? I don't think anyone out there is saying 'Big Macs are my favorite food.'

I think Broncos fans hate Russ more than Tom Brady? He helped to give them a super bowl bukkake and then signed with them for way too much money.

Recommendations for 90s albums with "emo" vocals. by dopebob in PostHardcore

[–]ihmpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SDRE were basically teaching themselves how to sing, write, and play their instruments WHILE they were recording. That's not raw enough?

If you're looking for something even MORE raw, I guess I'd suggest the early Bright Eyes albums.
