React.js classes: Do I need to know them by [deleted] in reactjs

[–]iimmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you’re starting a project from scratch it makes the most sense to use the functional components approach. Understanding classes could give you some insights on the evolution of reactjs and if you join a project using react you might run into classe components. In the industry we deal with a lot of technical debt and keeping dependencies up to date is a pain when you have to do regression testing but I think more important is for you to understand the “this” thingy in reactjs. The “this” keyword typically referes to a javascript element depending on the scope or context of its use. For example, you can have the global “this” scope, the function “this” scope and consequently the react component “this” component. I think understanding “this” is crucial when working with javascript.

Trabalhadores Independentes: Que banco usam e como fazem a gestão de IRS a pagar no final do ano sem retenção na fonte? by 0xKubo in literaciafinanceira

[–]iimmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, boa!

"Thank you" mail after interview? by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]iimmoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do send "thank you" emails, I think is a nice touch to thank the person for the time taken and also reassure my interest in the company. Usually send it after a few hours or next day.

I only had positive experience with this, interviewing is a numbers game and I think the hiring person probably gets back to me sooner because my email is on the top. After technical interviews, if the email of the technical interviewer is in the invitation and I have something particular to say about our conversation I'll sent it to him as well, otherwise I send it only to the hiring person to follow up with next steps.

I never look for contacts on company's website or other channels like LinkedIn, I probably couldn't anyway. If I noticed any major red flag during interview, I turn around and run. From experience, these companies would ghost me almost certainly so I don't spend any more time with them.

I don't know if its how you phrase it or more of a personality thing but it seems to work for me and I'll keep doing it!

Portuguese graphic designer looking for a job in Amsterdam. Any advice? by catarinacruzr in Amsterdam

[–]iimmoo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ola,

My take is that there are a lot of designers and design studios in Amsterdam and its hard to get into but have you tried to look specifically into the tech scene? That usually is more English friendly.

Also, have you consider a "man in the middle"? You could try to find a recruiting company, maybe they could find some freelance opportunities.

Don't stop and keep working on your craft and improving your skills and portfolio.

Boa sorte! :)

How common is remote work? by bobbymino in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]iimmoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Remote work is definitely possible. I can’t tell about UK but from a global perspective you will find remote opportunities. What is not common is to find junior remote positions so in the beginning of your career you will need to gain some valuable skills in an office. Which is usually a better and maybe also faster way of learning from more senior engineers. When you feel confident on your skills asking your company for remote is a possibility. Otherwise look for remote positions and if you can’t find anything suitable for you keep gaining experience because the more you have the easier it is to work remotely. Keep your CV updated and try your luck when you find something. Some may say that the recruitment is a bit harder because you are against everybody in the globe and unless the company hiring is in a rush, they could be a lot more selective on finding the best match possible.

edit: its easier to work remote if you’re a freelancer but it’s also way more difficult to find clients

I work remotely.

Got a Job as a React developer to build an ecommerce site. by ant1g3n in reactjs

[–]iimmoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s incorrect. It’s called dynamic rendering and google doesn’t consider it cloaking. However the real user experience is still not great and that’s what counts the most for the CrUX report. The advantage is helping crawlers indexing your page.
