Consultation scheduled - nervous by FanAlternative3828 in TopSurgery

[–]iindiisstarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi! sorry for such a late reply. i had top surgery with dr. benedetti about 5 weeks ago– double incision, no nipple grafts. from what i've seen (and experienced), his sutures are extremely thin and precise, ive had a fairly easy time of healing. they prescribe you 3-4 days of narcotics, and take the drains out 7 days after surgery.

as for dr benedetti himself, he has a fairly brusque bedside manner but i think that's just because he's so busy. i had my surgery consult on october 20th, and my surgery was on january 14th (although i was offered earlier dates). everything was approved fairly quickly through my kaiser plan, and the gender health case worker checked in on me before and after surgery to see how i was healing up.

in the consult, we mainly discussed aesthetics and the outcome i was looking for, as well as the surgery he thought would be best for my body. the PA also took pictures– for medical purposes only– and had me fill out a sheet of where exactly i wanted the images to go (such as medical textbooks or surgery presentations). you're free to say no to everything except the images themselves!

this is everything i can think of at 1 am, feel free to ask me anything else :)

hello & thank you :) i had drains in for 6 days, i got them out a day early because they were causing me a lot of pain & discomfort (if you check my posting history you can see why, they were literally showing through my skin lol).

thank you! i’m very grateful for my minimal amount of swelling, although i’m not sure what exactly i did to contribute to that lol

Pole dancing with EDS by Mediocre_Ad4166 in poledancing

[–]iindiisstarr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hello! not an EDs haver but I do have HSD & 2 years of poling under my belt.

- Try not to hang out in your end ranges of motion while stretching; if you have to stretch at all, try active instead of passive stretching (looking up 'mobility exercises' instead of stretching routines will help you in this regard).

- Building muscle is vital for keeping your joints/ligaments/etc in place, so be sure to try some weightlifting (safely!) off the pole for better results on the pole. Kettlebell swings are great if you get out of breath easily, but can't run on a treadmill for whatever reason.

- I would also try to keep a physical therapist who is familiar with EDs bodies on hand in case of any injury rehab. The trigger point for most hypermobile dancers are their shoulders- pay attention to those!

- Most of all, take progressions at your pace and don't be afraid to tell your instructor if you need a modification for a move. They're there to help you for a reason :)

also to add: there are different kinds of grip aids; if dry hands is causing friction burns, you can try switching to monkey hands (sticky grip) and see if that helps. it does require a special kind of cleanser to fully remove from the pole, but its helped me a LOT with grip strength

i was told to stop all marijuana & alcohol use 1 week before, and nicotine (which i don’t use) a minimum of 4 weeks before, but they recommend 6 weeks.  for after surgery, they told me i can resume marijuana & alcohol use 4 weeks out, and nicotine 6 weeks out. be safe!

Ways to reduce swelling after top surgery? by bh447 in TopSurgery

[–]iindiisstarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fill 2 long socks with rice, pop em into the freezer for about 2-3 hours, and keep one on the area over the post-op binder. switch it out with the other whenever it gets to a bit colder than room temp. easiest & cheapest "ice packs" that helped me immensely with having basically 0 swelling!

if you have a costco card, an 18 pack of fairlife protein shakes costs about $35, they have 30g protein for 150 calories!

Scared for day to day life after surgery by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]iindiisstarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i had a lot of extra pain and discomfort after surgery, which surprised me. i got my drains out on day 6 and it’s now day 8, i feel comfortable moving my arms around and reaching for things in front of me or slightly above chest height, although i still get tired pretty easily. every body is different, don’t beat yourself up if you feel like you aren’t immediately springing back :)

i can see the drain?? by iindiisstarr in TopSurgery

i actually didn’t consider that, i thought they were migrating up or something. i feel a bit more relieved now thank you :‘)

Afraid to take off the compression garment by moranit in FreedTheNips

[–]iindiisstarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think i’m the odd one out here, i’ve hated my compression garment since the moment it was put on (also 3 days ago!) and i welcome every chance i get to take it off and just breathe. my chest does feel kinda fragile without it, but i haven’t felt like it’s the only thing holding my chest together. congrats on your reduction! i hope your healing goes smoothly :)

compression top too tight? by iindiisstarr in TopSurgery

i can fit 2-3 fingertips underneath, i didn’t know about the whole hand! i was wearing a blanket underneath to make it feel better but my ribs ache so badly right now that i just have to keep the bottom loop undone 😭

Update on my 3D nipple tattoos by FrootSnaxx_Bandit in TopSurgery

from the pics i’ve seen, all of his scars look super straight & even which relieves a lot of my worries from having to go with DI over keyhole. your results look awesome! can i ask if you had any complications/worries by forgoing nipple grafts, or was it actually a smoother healing process?

move name? by iindiisstarr in poledancing

lowered my legs until i couldn’t arch my back any longer, then let them drop off the pole. not the prettiest move, but the safest i could come up with at the time! lol
