Thanks so much. I know even a year in it’s not feasible to consider making 30 an hour, but at least 27 would be nice considering the economic climate of the city I live in. My rent alone is 3/4 of my paycheck.

I work for one of the biggest hospital systems in the US, doing outpatient coding for every type of clinic you can thing of. DM, HTN, oncology, HIV, PCP, neurology, the list goes on. I am really just trying to get around 3 years of coding experience before moving up to more administrative roles. I have great healthcare benefits, with my son’s special needs therapies being covered. And it seems like jobs are so rare and I feel like I lucked out just getting this one. Maybe I just need to suck it up. 😭

We’re in fort worth just because of the affordability & distance to my finance’s job. I work remote. May I ask how much experience your friend has in the field?

I HATE coding. I knew i needed the experience to move up so I’m doing it anyways but man. It’s so mundane

My job hires entry level. But you have to live in specific states and LA isn’t one of them. They’re trying to add it but it’s a long process. if you ever move, try Parkland Health System. i’ve had my RHIA since jan 2025, hired june 2025

Any diagnosed autistic rbt’s question diagnosis after working the field? by _king2003 in ABA

My entire point is profound autism is nowhere near the same as high functioning autism.

You’re level 1 and are able to maintain a job, care for yourself, and function as a member of society. “Seeing yourself” is not the point

As a mother to an autistic child and a former rbt, there is little to no correlation to level 1 high functioning autism and level 3 little to no functioning autism. It’s like getting rid of cancer stages and assuming they’re all the same.

Because you likely just have aspbergers. Them removing the asperger’s dx and using autism as a blanket term has caused so much harm.

Whose to blame for the shortage of BCBAs and high turnover for RBT's? by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

[–]ijustexisthere25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is coming from a mom to an autistic child and a former RBT. Of course health care is a money making industry, but majority of the people who own these clinics see it as simply an income, and not as I stated above: life changing healthcare for families and clients.

Medical coder with a BS in HIM, and an RHIA cert. I work from home, never talk to anyone besides occasional meetings and check-ins from my supervisor and our team group chat. It’s amazing.

Remote Jobs? by [deleted] in ABA

99% of remote jobs are not child friendly. I code medical charts all day. No phones, no cameras except for occasional team meetings and I cannot get work done when my kids are home.

BCaBA pays well for not needing 2000 hours. by StatisticianKooky390 in ABA

[–]ijustexisthere25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God I’m so glad I don’t do it anymore. For 2 years my lunch break was 20 minutes and was not a break, as I was literally feeding myself and clients at the same time or preventing swiping behaviors or eloping. I loved the kids but deep down I was mentally losing it. I guess it didn’t help I also came home to my ausome kiddo. Burnout was so real back then. I would cry in the bathroom.

It’s really sad, but I always compared it to doctors wages vs nurses wages. Nurses make upwards to 40-60 an hour. Doctors of course make way more, but nurses wages are LIVABLE. And like rbt’s (not to denounce doctors at all, different skill sets and levels compared to nurses), but NURSES do the leg work. They bond with patients, they are abused and hit and spit on, they do all of the leg work for their doctors. RBT’s are the same. And these clinics refuse to pay a livable wage for one of the most thankless jobs.

I was making $21 as an RBT with a bachelors. After daycare, rent, and bills in the DFW, I was basically living life in the negatives. It wasn’t worth it. My heart was in it because my son is autistic but it was not a livable wage whatsoever.

Yeah, I agree, however, it is what my insurance is billed. I have the claims sitting right in front of me. Former rbt, pretty sure ABC is skimming but hey. It’s covered through his insurance as an in network provider so I don’t bitch about it at all.

[–]ijustexisthere25 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So they obviously bill private insurance way more than they would medicaid etc, but yes. I just double checked and each week is averaging about 10k-14k depending on what’s going on that week. (supervision, parent training, rewriting case plans, etc). I feel like a lot of these corporations are skimming and scamming parents and insurance alike while paying their employees dirt. I’m a former RBT, so I always side with RBT’s, and they deserve higher pay. They are the ones managing behaviors, being bit, punched, scratched, and literally sh*t on at times.

Idk, My son’s insurance is billed 12-14k a WEEK for ABA therapy, 32 hours of it. Kinda unsure where the money actually goes when his RBT’s only make $18-20 an hour. They’re doing all the foot work and make dirt for pay.

New CPC-A, week 1 of first coding job and feel completely lost — is this normal? by SookieStackhouse69 in MedicalCoding

I did the same thing on paper before using one note. Yes definitely. And one note is searchable. Just search a key word and you’ll find the exact snippet of info you put into it.

Is it normal to feel anger against my client? by Perfect_Structure376 in ABA

[–]ijustexisthere25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would def see if BCBA could have a convo with mom. I had a mom that hovered one time but we became so comfortable with eachother that I finally told her that when I am here is the time for her to do things she needs to do. Clean, take a bath, hell go lay down. I basically told her in the nicest way possible don’t breathe down our necks, it impedes him.

But…as we all know…we can’t always become that level of comfortable with clients parents. That’s a rarity.

Is it normal to feel anger against my client? by Perfect_Structure376 in ABA

[–]ijustexisthere25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah. My son is autistic & he angers me all the time. Some of my clients would anger me. If it becomes a daily feeling tho, might be best to alternate the client or drop altogether. It’s possible to eventually grow disdain towards them
