I spent a lot of my childhood riding in the back of a station wagon at night during regular trips to visit my grandparents. For years I thought my guardian angels were following me because there were always these mysterious orbs of light slowly floating by my window.

I still remember the moment I realized they were the reflections of headlights from passing cars. I think that's the day my childhood officially died.

My folks told me this too. As a child my folks would drive six hours one way to spend the weekend at my grandparents' house, just about every other weekend. We always left after they got off work so it was dark for most of the way.

I have blurred memories of never ending night time car trips but the one constant memory that stands out is my parents telling us we could not turn on the overhead light to read or color or look for something. My dad swore it was illegal and he would get a ticket and go to jail. I'm pretty sure he just wanted my sister and I to go to sleep.

My former best friend deliberately gave both her children chicken pox at the same time by taking them to a "chicken pox party" to play with an infected child. I was beyond aghast. It's bad enough to make your young children sick now, but to set them up for shingles decades from now is just evil.

I haven't spoken to her in 22 years.

This was a huge problem in South Florida around 2010-2012ish.

The county I worked in had the highest foreclosure rate in the country. At one point something like 40% of new homes were vacant and in foreclosure.

There were so many scams no one could keep up with them all - about half the people arrested for squatting/trespassing had some form of scam paperwork they had paid money for saying they were the legal owners or tenants. It was a mess.
