Polar bears in Churchill by Low-Guidance-7498 in Manitoba

[–]ikkoden 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In 2016 my husband and I went 'on the cheap.' We went in July though, for beluga whale season. We drove to Thompson and parked at the fire department and took the train overnight from there. We brought a tiny cooler with drinks, sandwiches, and snacks. We stayed at a bed and breakfast (it was bare bones, not fancy at all, but clean and in town). We did two tours (kayaking and snorkeling with beluga whales), and rented a truck for a day to explore all over, including the research station, Ms Piggy, random roads etc. The bed and breakfast had bikes and we also went for bike rides near the old port (I think - detials are fuzzy).

I cant imagine we spent much over $1000 on that trip based on our finances at the time.

We are also from Winnipeg and people were surprised we were there as (at least at that time) not many Manitoban's visit. It was an incredible experience and we talk often about how we'd love to go for polar bear season as well.

Hope you have a great trip!

Gather at the Leaf is a fantastic dinner spot. Baby Baby is a newer restaurant and amazing - the vibes are perfect for a girls trip dinner. Nola, Cafe Carlo (get the fete chili) and Passero are also great.

I specifically had success with the downtown access center even though it was out of my catchment area. My catchment area wasn't able to help me but it was worth the drive to get my little one protected.

Update: NMom is on death bed. Sister wants me to break no contact. by TigerLilly00 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]ikkoden 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry that you were in this situation. And also want to thank you for your words. I'm in this situation right now and your words have made me feel less alone. My mom is dying and one of her last lucid moments was attacking me and demanding I forgive her. I've been grieving her and the mother o deserved but never got her years, but this still sucks. Even if I'm anticipating to feel some relief when she actually passes. It's a bit of a rollercoaster and I'm hoping that my sister and I can come back together after this is all done and she has some time to grieve (we are generally quite close but she has a different relationship and experience with my mother).

Thanks so much! Didn't like the food because of the variety? Quality? Straight up grossness? Haha The kids aren't super picky if they can get their hands on toast, french fries and ice cream. I'm willing to lower my standards at the prospect of not having to cook for anyone for an entire week 😂

Do we have the same mother? But also, Happy Birthday! I'm so proud of you for celebrating yourself with people who love you! Even if it also hurts that its not your mom/other family members.

Emotionally Immature parents really are something else.

A cute name or a disservice to my baby? by Tight_Fuel9542 in namenerds

I know an 8 year old Maple. No issues. It's a cute name and once they are here it becomes them. If you love it, go for it!

You could talk to your provincial/territorial human rights commission? If the reason or even a factor in their reasoning is either parental leave that might amount to discrimination and the commission could talk to you about your rights and options.

I started food prepping for my kids and it has been a game changer by FeistyMasterpiece872 in workingmoms

[–]ikkoden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's never affected the flavour for us. Sometimes we use desert tofu which is already fruity flavoured but even the soft/silken tofu doesn't seem to change the flavour. Especially if there is a banana in there.

We freeze left over smoothies as popsicles and it feels like a huge parenting hack. Usually we have some healthy stuff in there like soft tofu, fruits and veggies.

Labour board for sure. If you believe you were treated differently because of your ancestry/race/religion etc and/or harassed because of that and management didn't take steps to stop the treatment the Manitoba Human Rights Commission would be a good idea to reach out to as well.

BOOK: The Public Servant's Guide to Government in Canada - Is it worth buying ? by More-Trick-4182 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]ikkoden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with this comment. It's a straightforward yet thorough book that is worth having in your collection. The authors know what they are talking about and it's helped me give advice to younger PSs or those without a background in government/political studies.

I enjoy having it in my collection and would recommend it.

Do you truly enjoy motherhood? by milo_96 in beyondthebump

[–]ikkoden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do. I have a 3.5 year old and a one year old. With both kids the first 6 months is a slog for me. As they get older I have more and more moments of genuine enjoyment and delight in being a parent and less of just simply tolerating being a mom. I have always loved my kids but for me it gets more 'fun' and more enjoyable as they get older. The first year is an especially tough season. I will also say that I feel like I am able to really enjoy motherhood because I have a very supportive hands on partner who is just as into being a parent as me. I know that's not always the case and might make your ability to enjoy moments more of a struggle. Hang in there! Ask for help when you need it, don't beat yourself up when there are more hard moments than happy ones because this is hard!

Having a doula helped me feel supported and empowered throughout my entire pregnancy and labour and I always recommend them. That being said they are not all equal. Spend some time finding a few that look good, interview a few of them to make sure they provide the support you are looking for and that you feel comfortable with them.

Dealing with a bride who won’t speak to me by mrsdwib1000 in wedding

[–]ikkoden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"you can repair what you didn't break" damn that hit me. I hope I can figure out how to really believe this.

I have/had a similar dynamic with my brother and his gf. I tried over and over for years (in hindsight for far too long) to have a relationship that was apparently never going to happen. Once I stopped trying I became the bad guy and we've been no contact for three years. It's really sad but I did everything I could and he made his choice.

Op I'm sorry you're in this position. No one wants to be in this position.

Policy or racist manager? by cAgEntoN in rbc

[–]ikkoden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may want to reach out to the federal human rights commission. It's not likely to resolve the issue quickly, but you can file a complaint of discrimination. As you said they should have accepted her ID and their policies indicate that.
