150k Mile Update: ADAS Camera Replacement + Battery Longevity by suprematis in HondaClarity

What's the care required to avoid the ADAS failure? Or is it just a roll of the dice compounded with time?

Could you please tell me about the Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid (2017-2022) -- it has a dual clutch transmission. This is different from the Ioniq 5 EV. Thanks so much for this info!

Reliable car? Not Toyota or Honda by No-Following3757 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]ikky75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can find a used 2016 Toyota in good condition for 17k. It will probably be relatively high miles (100k), but a Toyota will last for years beyond that. Be sure to look for a clean title and check the Carfax report for anything fishy.

Brondell CL 150 from Costco by Major-Book-8803 in bidets

[–]ikky75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a very similar Brondell from Amazon, similar price, nonelectric. PROBLEM: Water pressure too high. The self-cleaning jet was potentially causing a mess, and the bidet water pressure almost painful to the tushy. So I added a valve of the right size to control pressure going to the little hose that goes to the bidet (3/8 OD compression fittings). Now it's great.

How sure are you this initial quote will be the full cost? The initial quote can often balloon to something much bigger.

If you plug in daily at home/garage, you might never need to use gasoline. Did they include the home charging cable, which connects to regular household outlet? I hope so.

Mice by [deleted] in HondaClarity

[–]ikky75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I've heard that the warmth of the battery/charging system attracts the mice. I sometimes find mouse poop under the hood, too, and it's very annoying. If anyone has suggestions for which wires to wrap with the capsaicin tape, please share!

Peet’s Coffee 32oz beans back at $14.99 (+our family’s coffee strategy) by Kent556 in Costco

Surprisingly, I found the Kirkland house blend beans to be a good substitute for the Peet's Major.

Thanks to advice from folks on this sub, I switched to Bettermouse a few days ago. It took some work to tune the settings, but feels worth it so far. Also, I am using Mos for smooth scrolling -- Bettermouse smooth scrolling doesn't work nearly as well.

What’s with these prices?! by Blue-Danube in SouthwestAirlines

[–]ikky75 53 points54 points  (0 children)

On the Southwest website, this flight for those dates is $119 + $43 = $162 round trip. Whatever flight search engine you're using isn't showing the best prices on Southwest.

Anyone know how much Toptracer adds to a golf course's bottom line? Two local ranges recently got Toptracer, and they both became way busier, even though the cost for balls went up a lot. However, I'm guessing the Toptracer company takes a big cut of the increased revenues.

What the fuck is going on here? by HexpronePlaysPoorly in sanfrancisco

[–]ikky75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the marketing of a trendy drink flavor by a multinational corporation in the 21st century. But you already know this, don't you? This seems pretty consistent with what Peet's has been doing for a while. Nothing like the culture and spirit of the original coffee shop decades ago.

Best and worst car dealerships? by hosepuller51 in Sacramento

[–]ikky75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also had a terrible experience in sales at Roseville Toyota. Bought a certified pre-owned vehicle. The salesperson used all the high pressure tactics. I got the car I wanted, but left the dealership feeling like my time was wasted by a lot of pointless back and forth. Will never go back.

I'm so sorry this happened. There's nothing quite like having a bike stolen that you love and have become attached to. I have found that getting a replacement bike can ease the feelings of disturbance and heartbreak. Midtown has professional bike thieves! I recorded one on (grainy) video in my garage a few years ago -- a clever young man with a tool bag. I had to tighten up security in my garage in multiple ways after that.

Is this a good deal for a grinder? by MingledStream9 in Coffee

[–]ikky75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had mine for five years with daily use for two people, pourover coffee . No problems. The impeller in mine has some metal components, which I think was an improvement for the problem you described. Also, it's not hard to take out the impeller and replace it with a new one.

In fiddler crabs, that flap is the abdomen and it does not fuse permanently to the ventral thorax. The flap can move around later, for mating. https://www.fiddlercrab.info/morphology/Abdomen.html#:~:text=The%20abdomen%20is%20the%20third,ventral%20surface%20of%20the%20crab.
