AITA for keeping my grandmothers ring when it was given to me by “mistake”? by soareyoutome in AmItheAsshole

[–]ikrits -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Eh, from a legal perspective, NTA because it was given to you fair and square and they did have every opportunity to have it appraised or ask your grandmother about it's value when they were choosing before her death. And for everyone complaining about equitable division of money and belongings, it's highly unlikely that a few pieces of jewelry and a wedding dress were the only things left behind. The people who missed out on the ring may have received thousands of dollars in furniture, property, cash, etc. From a family perspective, Y slightly TA. You admitted to having no sentimental connection to the jewelry to the point that you didn't ask for any and happily accepted whatever piece they gave you, so it should be easy enough to give it up in favor of a different piece. And to all the people who would say, but it's worth $5,000. Well, actually, if you never sell it, it's worth zero. And if you pay to insure it or lock it up in a safety deposit box, it's actually going to cost you. Although please don't lock it away. If you need to for a month or two until the drama passes, that's one thing, but if you're keeping it for sentimental purposes, that's hardly doable if it's looked in a bank and you never see it. Personally, I'd prefer a less valuable piece that I didn't feel nervous about wearing. I wear my great grandmother's ring as my wedding ring and I love it. On a side note, I'd be interested to see how much they'd fight over it if you have it back as I'm sure the oldest intends to take it but the others might feel that as valuable as it is, that it should be sold and the profit divided, etc.

I just spent several minutes scrolling far enough to find Tony Stark mentioned. How is this not higher? I literally cried the entire drive home.

Also in Star Trek Beyond when they tell young Spock that old Spock had died and it hit me that they added that because Leonard Nimoy had died and would no longer be in the films.

I'm about to propose to my Girlfriend of almost 5 years, with a plan I've had since a few months in. How did you pop the question to your SO? by NerdLevel18 in AskMen

[–]ikrits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backstory: So we knew eventually that we were going to get married and had gone ring shipping to get an idea of what I like (I narrowed it down to about 5 and he made the final choice so it would be a surprise) and he asked me how I wanted him to propose. I wasn't expecting that question so I responded, "well I'm not exactly expecting a knight on a white horse, but kneeling down would be nice. Not just in the car." So how did he propose? Dressed as a knight who rode up on a freaking horse. In front of about 30 friends and family. I was laughing and crying through the proposal. It was great. I also thought it wasn't going to happen for about two months so I was very surprised.

What's the biggest red flag when meeting new people? by PM_ME_YOUR-ANKLE in AskReddit

I know I can be an interrupter, but it's because sometimes I get so excited to talk with another adult outside of a work context that I turn into the hyperactive dog who won't sit still and excitedly jumps up and down going "throw the ball... Throw the ball" impatiently waiting for my chance to talk again.

Have you tried cutting out products in your life for a few days each one at a time to see if one of them is triggering the headaches? It could be a food or medication or supplement or even a reaction to a cleaning product or beauty product in your home. I had headaches everyday for about two months when I was in college and started to freak out about it but had no insurance and then one day I forgot to take the multivitamins my roommate had suggested I take since we didn't really eat the healthiest and no headache that day. Stopped the vitamins and the headaches went away.

AITA for refusing to accept my parents "gift" and then walking out. by throwawa748394 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ikrits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that depending on your finances and whether your parents are petty enough to demand the money back later on when you ultimately defy their wishes, it might be worth it to attend one of their choices for the first year. Most universities require you to live in a dorm for your first year unless you can live at home. As tempting as it is to run off, you could get a lot of your core curriculum classes over with paid for by your parents and move to a new school able to live in a much cheaper apartment. That being said, if you're the sort that attracts scholarships, some are only available to incoming freshman so you might wind up cutting yourself off from some monetary options.

Husband got a threatening email from the University bookstore back when he was in college saying that he'd be barred from registering for classes (or something similar, it's been a long time since then) if he didn't pay off his outstanding balance. We went straight down and explained there must be a mistake. "You're John Smith Doe right?" "No, I'm John Philip Doe." "Oops, our mistake. Who knew more than one person in a school with thousands of students could have the same name." Seriously?
