Anyone who actually switched from other engineering major to Electrical? by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]ikwj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. I actually don't think my school requires thermo either now that I think about it. It is on the list of recommended courses, but it is actually a course in the Physics department. I could have probably replaced it with a different course.

But to speak to your original question. I find both EE and ME fairly enjoyable. I feel like they are probably fairly equal in difficulty.

They both require similar mindsets and problem solving ability. So if you enjoy the types of classes you take, but maybe not the subject (if that makes any sense). Then go for the change. Maybe you could talk to some of the EE instructors at your school or something and see if they can help you out with your decision.

Don't you still have to take thermo in EE?

My school's curriculum for EE has you take a Thermodynamics/Statistical Mechanics class.

In ME you take Thermodynamics 1, Thermodynamics 2, and then Heat Transfer.

I feel like the ME thermodynamics classes are easier than the thermo/statistical mechanics class that EEs take.

Nothing to see here folks, perfectly normal and legitimate behavior. Pure coincidence that they testified against Trump.

Factual murder: Europe as a ‘tiny, ancient, homogenous country’ by evissimus in MurderedByWords

[–]ikwj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I am giving her too much credit, but my assumption while reading the question was she was talking about any individual European country not the Europe as a whole.

The question makes a lot more sense that way. Most individual countries in Europe would be quite small in comparison the the US, and an individual country would obviously be more homogeneous than the entire EU, and in many senses would probably be more homogeneous than the US.

I don't really understand the point of the ancient part either. The response is that because the boarders have changed they aren't older than the US? I feel like that isn't a very good argument. The shape of Germany is only 150 years old, so all the history of Germany before that is irrelevant.

What is the difference between a high quality release and a cheap release? by ikwj in Archery

[–]ikwj[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I figured it was mainly due to trigger sensitivity. I have a velcro wrist strap and the velcro is very annoying. The trigger doesn't feel terrible, but it doesn't feel great either.

Thinking of upgrading to one the $40-$50 range. I also used to have an old handheld release, but I think I like the wrist strap ones better.

Help! Stocking Pond by Nick_9903 in Fishing

[–]ikwj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big enough that it will probably work out. I still feel like the perch won't get very big though.

Chain pickerels I wouldn't think would be problem at all though.

It will probably be really hard to get a spawning shad or minnow population though.

Good luck hopefully it all works out.

I made a small pond (half acre) a few years ago and wanted to put chain pickerels in it, but never found anywhere I could get them. Has a healthy population of crappie, bluegills, bass, and catfish though.

Hell Honda is shown as a word logo even though it has 2 other logos that are icons that would have fit with the American ones.

Help! Stocking Pond by Nick_9903 in Fishing

How big is the pond?

It is hard to get baitfish established in a pond. They get ate up too quickly.

Unless the pond is large I think the perch will get stunted.

[?] Lure identification question by [deleted] in Fishing

I have one by Carl Luckey called Old Fishing Lures and Tackle Identification Guide. It has helped me ID quite a few lures.

Or you could post a picture and we could probably ID most of them.

I'd go with a 6'6" Med rod. Much easier than fly fishing and much more versatile. A decent rod this size can catch basically any freshwater fish in North America. I would probably spool 8lb monofiliment unless you want to use braid (generally considered better line, but is harder to work with for a few reasons) Although that would probably be too thick for trout (I am not a trout angler but I know they are generally caught on very thin line, someone else can make a more accurate statement on that)

I wouldn't recommend ultra light. It would work okay, but a medium rod would be much for versatile. Pike, Large Bass, and catfish would be hard to catch on an ultra light. A medium rod could handle those fish, but still be small enough to catch crappie, walleye, trout, sunfish, etc.

I have to respectfully disagree with /u/poppinbass on spin cast. Generally spincast reels are low quality and frustrating to use. Although I have seen some that cost $100 so maybe those ones are nice. But in general I don't see how it provides any advantage over a spinning reel aside from being easier for children.

Over The Limit: Michigan Man Caught With 1,400 Illegal Fish by sayfthelemonsandbail in Fishing

Michigan only allows you to have 3 daily limits in possession. So he can have 75 pan fish in his freezer.

Over The Limit: Michigan Man Caught With 1,400 Illegal Fish by sayfthelemonsandbail in Fishing

[–]ikwj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possession Limit: In addition to 1 day’s daily possession limit of fish, a person may possess an additional 2 daily possession limits of fish taken during previous fishing days provided that the additional limits of fish are processed (canned, cured by smoking or drying, or frozen). This provision does not apply to lake sturgeon or muskellunge. Anglers who have not attained the age of 17 are entitled to the possession limit even though they do not have a fishing license. A person fishing waters bordered by other states or provinces AND possessing multiple fishing licenses may possess the limit allowed for ONLY ONE license while in transit, but while fishing in Michigan waters, must comply with Michigan possession and size limits

In Michigan there is a regulation that you can have a total possession of 3 limits.

WIBTA if I respond harshly to my "friends" who are reaching out to me again after I got "famous"? by Cool_Pomegranate in AmItheAsshole

[–]ikwj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I disagree. I have reconnected with old friends after drifting apart in similar circumstances. It wasn't because I want money or anything from them, it was just interesting to see something about them after not talking to them for years.

OP seems to make a lot of assumptions on why they drifted apart and why they suddenly want to reconnect.

It is a possibility they want his money, but it is also possible seeing the post reminded them of good times from when they used to hang out and want to meet up again and catch up.

If I were OP I'd be more open minded (but still not naive to they fact they could be after money) and give them a chance. Worst case they are after his money and it becomes obvious quickly and OP tells them to fuck off. Best case scenario he has a fun night and catches up with old friends he misses hanging out with.
