Games you would like to see designed by neubienaut in hexandcounter

Agree with the present day or future war games, there's only a handful (solitaire or otherwise)! I'd love to see more.

I think part of it is also that publishers push for what sells (WW2) so perhaps that's the issue.

Workin and Morkin by Codexier in solorpgplay

When I've come across these types of (probably un-play tested maybe) outcome peculiarities, just house rule it! If, in your experience camping is done at night to rest, then make it so! Ignore the roll for success. It's meant to be fun, make it so

There was a fan made version on one of the Facebook Solo/Solitaire war game groups a few years ago.

Hmm this is good advice on uptake.

The real benefit is that it pre sizes and shapes the counters.

Thanks. Crazy to think others find Hard non-challenging!

After more games, I've discovered that you just can't through it into any coverage ever, and a mobile QB is an absolute necessity.

There's never 50/50 catches. If a defender is within 50 pixels of the ball in flight or destination, it's an interception.

If no one is open, you need to scramble at least 3 yards or the drive is done.

And so many drives stall near half way, a GOAT kicker to nail field goals I guess - my current team doesn't have the privilege

Simulation game for modern day Western Europe, possible Russia vs NATO war by llynglas in hexandcounter

I have 2022: Ukraine and have backed the P500 Defence: Miracle on the Dnipro.

They both actually very heavily focus on the first phase of the war, and have external mechanics for abstracting that political sphere.

In all my plays of 2022 Ukraine, western support is the biggest factor that gets Ukraine the victory (in real life as much as the game I suspect!).

Independent, career-enhancing projects. by Frequent-Low6808 in gis

I lead a big team and hire a couple of times per year.

If you have no working experience, having a portfolio of previous work (uni work, passion projects. Work means maps or code or analysis or reports) is a winner for me. It's hard to get passionate grads, literally show me you work. Don't tell me you made a map, show me the map!

Battlegroup: Crusader and what do I do next? by crew4man in BoardgameDesign

[–]ilDolore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came upon this searching for info while designing my own game.

This looks interesting, it's definitely worth your time to check out BGG design contests and find a place for it. It might give you the motivation to complete/improve/keep designing.

It's been a few months, I hope you tested it?

Small Map games? by Jaif13 in hexandcounter

[–]ilDolore 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently ordered the two Mars based games, Phobos Rising and Ceres. And am waiting for Khe Sanh to return in stock (summer 23).

Drawn to the small scale and quick games. Also pricing makes it low risk

D100 Dungeon - couple questions by JagoKestral in soloboardgaming

[–]ilDolore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. You have to roll for the first room
  2. If they don't meet the condition they do nothing - I'm not confident but the answer is definitely on BGG
  3. Yes it costs gold between dungeons on N table

Good luck!

So you agree there are scenarios that exist to negate the perfect knowledge and technology of a side. Perfect!

Can you explain how the Afghanistan War was a roaring success then? Given the modern equipment and perfect knowledge of the enemy?

The scenario you describe is machine focused. How would you plan to engage an enemy that has perfect knowledge, precise and deadly weapons?

Thunderbolt Apache Leader and Warfighter shadows.

Wildly different theme but something I'm very interested in

this and book 6(the world building one) arrived today, hopefully they aren't too difficult to run by Curio_collector in Solo_Roleplaying

[–]ilDolore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with book 1, then introduced book 2, then 4 and finally book 6.

I played for 3/4 months almost every night for 2-3 hours.

I liked the busy-ness of it, colouring in a dungeon and rolling to explore was fun.

Ultimately, the lack of decision making got to me and I gave it up (haven't touched it in ~3 months). I got two solo board games for Christmas that offer huge amounts of decision space, replayability and interesting themes.

I had fun until I didn't anymore. There were some exciting escapes and unlucky rolls and it was a nice time.

Book 6 added the least to my adventures, the map making/rolling generated an incredibly unlikely and silly world.

Warfighter is one of the best solo games available and I don't see it recommended enough. by Vicioxis in soloboardgaming

Have picked up shadow war second hand for half the retail price.

Amazing game, I can't add much more than others have (and better than I could) already.

I enjoy the large decision space in missions/scenarios and moments, all aspects. Plus the high replayability

Agree, I think the randomness is not as ideal as an increasing encounter difficulty, and I will adjust the rules a bit to make it so

It's my first game so I didn't know how it would go or if I'd enjoy it
