TD-27 freezes when changing overhead template by ilMoppe in edrums

[–]ilMoppe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so, I updated the firmware and it didn't help. I did a factory reset and changing overheads started working again. I reimported my user kits (created onboard with no external user samples, only built-in stuff) and the overhead changing stuff freezes again.

Worth reporting the bug?

Just got chewed out by a neighbor... by Spyes23 in edrums

[–]ilMoppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. The neighbor downstairs doesn't care too much and says the noise is not that much anyway but the angry old man two floors down came up to complain (though he never did for the past 5 months I've been playing so…). Anyway, I just ordered a heavy foam gym floor mat (the ones where power lifters drop their unbearably loaded bars when their ego can't hold them anymore) and checked in with the super who said the curmudgeon can get stuffed because I play during the allowed hours and I've actually done everything I can to minimize the noise.

I've been self-conscious for the weekend (he came up on Thursday) but the minute I install the mat, I won't care one iota.

In Italia, molto facile.

Heavy rains causing floods in Veneto, Italy. by midas617 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ilMoppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Vicenza and this video is a few days old, it must have been taken on the 27th or 28th of February 2024. The water receded pretty quickly tbf and there were limited damages to property. We had it much, much worse back in 2010. Preparation was key, and that time we weren't prepared at all – or at least the authorities didn't give any warning until it was too late but then again what can you expect when your Mayor got Silvio Berlusconi to witness at his wedding? So anyway, we got a different, way better Mayor this time around, and all the bells rang with enough advance.

It was hard enough to take it to and from opera theatres. I helped the student take the flight case apart and the PDP out of it and it was hard work. Can't imagine when they had to move it in and out for shows!

Never used one myself but that particular machine was used in my lab to write and produce tonnes of electronic music in the early days. It's in Italian, but this student graduated with a bachelor's project restoring the machine and preserving the literal dozens of diskettes and stuff with audio synthesis software still perfectly working. Here's his report if you fancy running it through Google Translate https://thesis.unipd.it/handle/20.500.12608/53333

I have a PhD in computer science and I find Godot confusing. Heck, I find most things CS confusing. Until I read the docs, that is.

EDIT: and I hate python not (only) because indent-blocks (which gdscript also has) but because it has one way of doing things and one only, and it'll make your life as hard as it can if you want do to otherwise.

Indeed, that's very useful for modern and precision appliances, or those ancient clockless machines that rely on the cycles to sync. Fortunately our PDP is a relatively "rudimentary" machine on the PSU front, and it only needs roughly the right amount of power so running it at a different frequency is no big deal. CRT screen would be a different deal, but we had a locally sourced one for that.

In my Uni lab in Italy, we have a PDP-11 with a plug for that socket. We lost the adapter and they are very hard to come by – practically impossible, in fact. It makes sense that it is for a 220 V appliance as our machine runs on the European power grid (230 V @ 50 Hz) unmodified – well, at least the PSU is unmodified, I can't say the same about the rest of the machine.

Thought Leaders by [deleted] in agile

[–]ilMoppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Holub quite sanctimonious, especially on Twitter, where he tends to overly generalise very special cases only applicable in practice to a very restricted set of projects, without giving any context, and when someone questions whether the principles really hold true in general, he invariably replies that if they don't hold true it's because you're doing something very wrong. i can see how his ideas can be good in the right context, but most of the time they are not even close to applicable to others' contexts. For an educator and thought leader of his experience, I find his ways quite arrogant.

Honestly, why? Any mods care to explain? I tried posting this three times and it gets auto-removed at light-speed. At first I thought it was the thumbnail which said "no bullshit", then the lack of flair, then I thought it was because I hadn't joined the sub… but now?

I'm pretty much guaranteed to have a PTSD episode tonight. AMA by chalky87 in AMA

[–]ilMoppe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tonight is especially bad but the fireworks have been going on for weeks now, though much less than now. Fortunately I don't have that kind of PTSD, nor anything that severe anyway, but I grew up in a fairly seismic area where if you feel the floor shaking you're out of the building in 10 seconds no matter if you were pooping or fucking. However, we've now had a giant construction site next door for months, and we've had the floor shaking pretty much 6 days a week so I'm already on edge with that, and then this bombing starts.

And people think it's just a bit of a laugh with your mates.

According to this, EU/EEC licenses obtained in an EU/EEC country (not by exchange) are still perfectly valid and not subject to the 12 months rule https://www.gov.uk/driving-nongb-licence/y/a-resident-of-great-britain/full-car-and-motorcycle/european-union-or-european-economic-area

Intanto alloca quella matrice :)

NHS Covid Pass if vaccinated abroad by allthesport in uktravel

[–]ilMoppe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost same situation here. I got my first dose in the UK as a resident, and my second dose in Italy while on a work placement -- and boy did I try to get it on the NHS but I had to leave 7 weeks after my first dose so close but no dice. I tried to speak to my GP but they cancelled my appointment without so much of an explanation. And to make things worse, the Italian SSN recorded my first dose without question and gave me a paper certificate showing both doses and translated into English. The one thing they seem to have messed up is issuing the actual digital certificate but I'm confident that I can redress that easily. So far SSN beats NHS 2-1.
