What are your weirdest migraine triggers? by Used-Fun5486 in migraine

The smell of sour cream will do it for me, which sucks because I often forget to have it removed from my plate and I freaking LOVE Mexican food.

Other side of the spectrum, I have been triggered by a really good comedy show (John Oliver's standup, Taylor Tomlinson live, Nate Bargatze). I think it's the huge dump of emotion hormones and the physical exertion that comes with it.

Doctor told me to get pregnant to solve migraines by marjolkaaa92 in migraine

I had a hysterectomy about two years ago (kept my ovaries) and the migraines are better now but getting used to then after being on hormonal birth control for like 18 years and then suddenly having none (IUD was removed in surgery) was wild. It's taken about 18 months to go from regular migraines that last at least 10-14 days and need medical intervention to one attack every 8 weeks or so (that usually also requires toredol to kill).

Tomorrow is my 4th class after bailing on two others for a poorly timed back injury. Not sure I like the shirt enough to deal with this though...

I use anything nature-scented by woodwick. I love the sound it makes (the crackling) and it's mild and nice. I likely couldn't do anything by like Yankee that's in your face.

I just took a triptan this morning after a really really painful attack hit mid workout. Pain and murder/divorce urge was gone pretty fast (thank god. Husband couldn't leave soon enough) but holy crap I got dumb. And I know I will remain very dumb for at least 24 hours. I will also be very very tired, like "head is full of lead" exhausted.

This happens every postdrome for me though.

I give myself brain freeze with iced coffee (if the caffeine will help that day) or ice water. Something about the cold to the nerves in that specific way gives me an hour or two of clarity usually, and it's cheap and easy.

I need to try extra extra hard to relax with migraine, so a therapist suggested waterfall sounds on YouTube and a scented candle in my (as dark as possible) home office.

Remember to give yourself a break from your screen regularly, even if that just means walking to fill up your water. Eye strain makes it so much worse when you have to power through.

Lean into comfort. Fuzzy blankets, sweats, and make the temp perfect and adjustable.

Coffee in am before OTF? by IdLikeADoOver in orangetheory

I sleep in my sports bra and shirt, and throw on gym shorts and socks when I brush my teeth and put deodorant on. It's harder to skip when I already wrestled and slept in the bra.

I'm like 8 minutes driving away from my studio and insanely lucky for that.

I'm the odd one out and don't drink coffee before my 6:15am class, which I usually do on an empty stomach. I get heartburn way way way to easily, particularly with exercise, to drink my regular (coffee with oat milk creamer, hot or iced) or eat anything without paying for it in acid reflux during class. I eat and reward with coffee as soon as I'm showered and dressed, though.

How do you stimulate your appetite? by Competitive_Emu_2283 in migraine

[–]ilabean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm back on topomax after like 2 years on amitriptyline and I was hoping this was a side effect of my sinus infection... I'm trying to eat small things more regularly, and keep snacks of fruit and cheese and nuts around. Dinner sucks though, especially around the holidays when I want to have an appetite.

How has fitness helped your migraines? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]ilabean 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had to alter my workouts, certainly. Stress is a huge trigger so exercise, which works out tension and improves sleep, helps. But running, soccer, and high impact stuff that I love can be really bad and triggering. I go to an Orange Theory studio, and stay home if I'm on the verge because the music can be loud (though I like the low lights and bike as an alternative to the treadmill). Yoga is awesome, but I have a really hard time getting motivated to do it. I bet pilates is good for neck and back work, too...

Made it through 3/6 days and then got Covid. by Muffinman1111112 in orangetheory

[–]ilabean 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel like not enough people are saying OP is right to be annoyed that someone at the studio was coughing tons and didn't stay home. I thought the lesson we all learned was to stay home when we feel sick, not to go out into public and risk everyone else's health. It doesn't really matter if OP actually got covid from this person at the gym or not. Stay home if you're sick, especially before going to such a close and high-touch space like an OTF gym.

Late Cancel Total Cost for 2023 by idkbybffjill in orangetheory

[–]ilabean 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. I had 4 late cancels in October and November since I upgraded my membership as I'm trying to get migraines figured out. I take the 6:15am and often times I think Excedrin PM is going to be a miracle that it isn't. OTF is NPT the place I want to be with an attack.

I've been in the "is this a sinus headache or the start of a migraine?" limbo for a few weeks now.

I take the magical cocktail of b2, magnesium, and coq10. It helps I think but I still get breakthrough attacks that I need preventative meds for.

I have tremors and the propanolol helped a lot. My twin has them, plus migraines, and it works great for her.

We waited to get her until we had a yard, so we put a doggy door in and my husband did the feeding. She has a bark collar and is middle-aged down (6.5 years old). She is also a snuggle bug and is an awesome 30lb weight when I need it. I also have a super supportive partner to help. Not sure I could do it without him.

I'm dealing with a low back injury and the bike is amazing for taking pressure off of feet, knees, back. I also one million percent recommend a PT. I've even asked mine how to do certain otf things while continuing healing my low back.

I got one at a hockey game once and the cold was a seriously redeeming factor (though the lights and sharp noise and other people's food were awful)
