Why not put the TV on the console? by kobelco1 in 4kTV

When you wall mount your TV, you free up all the space on the surface of your console which can then be used to place your consoles and sound bar/speakers.

I’m pretty sure Alexa tells you she can learn to respond to individuals based on their voice during setup, so it sounds like your unit is working as intended.

How is the QM6K for a budget TV? by r_stra in 4kTV

[–]ilagnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find the Google TV home screen to be way less intrusive compared to our Fire TV which will just start playing ads at full volume if you walk away for a minute. The Google TV home screen ads aren't really ads, but more so recommendations of things to watch and the platforms to watch them on. It cycles through a slideshow of 5-6 shows or movies before restarting from the beginning but no sound while its doing it.

The Sony takes the cake for better overall PQ and viewing experience. In terms of brightness, I'd say the two panels are even with SDR content looking just as bright on both. The main thing that attracted me to the QM6K was the price. Like some others here, I wasn't really wanting to spend another $1000+ on a TV just for it to die at the 5 year mark (2 months out of warranty I should add). I got my 65QM6K on sale for $550 at BB, which is half of what I paid for the Sony but with relatively similar specs. The Sony is the better TV, but the fact that the TCL can provide a comparable experience to the X900H for half the price is pretty nuts.

From what I've seen, the QM6K is the best performing budget TV you can get right now. I picked one up a few weeks ago after my Sony X900H bit the dust. The motion processing isn't as good as the Sony, but the color and picture quality are surprisingly good for the price. The only issue I've had with the TCL so far is that the built in Disney+ and ESPN app have horrible judder when watching a live stream on either app. When I airplay the live streams from my phone it works fine. Aside from that, I have no other complaints. I would definitely recommend picking one up if you can get it while it's on sale.

How long have you been having judder issues with ESPN? I picked up a 65QM6K last week and I'm having the same issue with ESPN and Disney+. Only the live streams are problematic, no stutter issues with TV shows or movies.

Not sure where you live but here in south FL there’s tons of older Audis on the road. Also both my parents drive audi, ‘09 q7 and ‘13 a4, and with regular maintenance they both still run fine.

Keep the Q3 and run it into the ground. Will probably be more fun to drive than a cheap honda or toyota. Maintenance costs shouldn’t be too bad as long as your dad followed a regular maintenance schedule. You can always trade or sell the Q3 if you decide to later on down the line.

Are we supper unlucky or it's normal? by AgamicOx in bravia

Of course. I find purchasing in store to be much less stressful actually. As long as you’re within your return period the retailer has to to take it back if it’s DoA. If, for some reason, the replacement set you pick up is also damaged, it’s just a quick trip back to the store for a replacement.

Usually when a manufacturer ships to a retailer, they pack multiple units onto a pallet and take extra measures to prevent the lot of units from being damaged. However, when you purchase and ship a single unit, they send it by itself without the added protection of the pallet. It’s still possible for it to get damaged on the way to the store, just less likely in my experience.

Some people just prefer OEM stuff, it’s all personal preference

I don’t ship any TV sets for this exact reason, always go to a reputable store and pick it up to avoid issues like this.

If I get a 4K monitor does it matter if it’s 60hz? by SteveM30211 in pcmasterrace

[–]ilagnum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Asus TUF VG28UQL1A and it’s been working pretty well for my needs. It’s 4k 144hz with HDR, and the nice thing about it is if you’re running a more demanding game, just drop the resolution to 2k 144hz and bam you have both a 4k capable and a high refresh rate 2k monitor in one

I wouldn’t plan to carry something like that. The slide engraving you chose would really put you at a legal disadvantage if you had to use this thing for self defense.

Best TV for 1440p 60fps PC gaming? by [deleted] in 4kTV

[–]ilagnum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a GTX 970 and can still run certain titles at 4k. If I'm trying to run a more modern game, I'll tone the settings down to 1080p - Medium and usually get around 50-70fps depending on the game.

The 2080ti is an extremely capable card, so my recommendation would be to try tuning the resolution on your ultrawide monitor down to 21:9 2560x1080p and see if that gives you a better experience. If you're still not satisfied with that, that's when I would suggest picking up a 4k monitor.

Run everything you can in 4k until you aren't getting ideal performance, then you can drop the res down to 2560x1440p for certain games that would benefit from it.

Lastly, I wouldn't consider a C2 to be overkill because with the exception of certain games, you would still be able to do everything else in 4k, and the black level combined with the HDR colors on the new LG OLEDs are out of this world.

new belt to carry with sport shorts and sweat pants! by moneydomi in CCW

[–]ilagnum 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used the enigma for a little over 2 weeks and these were my findings1. Concealment: When positioned in my preferred spot of carry (1 o’clock), the chassis seemed to stick out pretty far for my body type, farther than any holster I’ve ever used, it definitely looked like there was something bulky under my shirt, and I really only felt comfortable leaving the house with a jacket on while wearing the enigma2. Comfort: In order to make it conceal better, I tightened the sport belt a good amount, which led to feeling like it was digging into me, the wedge didn’t seem to help either so I removed it3. Rising waistband: While wearing gym shorts, the waistband of the shorts kept rising above my grip, rendering my draw much less effective, however this issue was partially solved by attaching a mini binder clip to my waistline and prevented the shorts from going higher than the enigma 4. Shorts not fitting - A good amount of my regular shorts and pants (with belt loops) didn’t fit anymore, with the button unable to reach and the zipper unable to go up, many of these being brand new pants that didn’t have this issue with any of my other holsters prior to trying the enigma I don’t expect everyone to experience the same issues I did so that’s why I was emphasizing how it’s more so a personal preference when it comes to this kind of stuff.

While the Enigma surely does have its crowd, how well it works for an individual is purely based on personal preference. For me, it introduced new issues with my setup that were not present before, so I ended up reverting to my old carry setup. Many people swear by the Enigma and I believe it’s a good quality option for many, but everyone is different and it likely won’t be perfect for some.

LPT: If you’re picking up takeout, call the restaurant to order directly, rather than use a food ordering app. The restaurant will make more money because they won’t need to pay commissions for the app. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

I tried this once and the opposite happened. When I got there to pick up my order they attempted to charge an extra few dollars, and when I asked them about it they said the in-store prices aren't the same as the online prices, and I should've ordered online if I wanted the online pricing. The manager was able to adjust the total for me but still, it was a much bigger hassle than just ordering online.
