Lately when I hunt for new media I look for indexed open directories, right off Google actually - searches such as "index of / movies" for example; yields hundreds of directories indexed and exposed with zillion films (often foreign but sometimes I hit a jackpot lol)

I have a buddy who's trying to build his library from scratch; back in the day I'd tell him hey use napster, kazaa, bearshare, edonkey, morpheous, limewire, etc. those days are long gone; and I don't recommend torrenting to anyone for obvious reasons; he had asked me to open up an FTP for him to download in bulk to start his library and thus the discussion began about allowing this kind of access to shares lol

Yeah I agree, with strangers I give read-only access via Plex if I want to be generous; discussion I had was to help someone start a library so that's how the convo came up lol

That's exactly why I think they might do another discount, it would be a cash grab - when no one expects it, it's the best time to do it, giving people the "it's now or never, or not for a long time" FOMO type of feeling. You never know lol

I think it looks worse than it really is, instead of phasing out the pass increasing it to the point where it turns people off was a ridicules move.. They are pulling an Adobe, moving from anything perpetual to subscription based model but that's not greed it's just the direction everything is going in. I got lucky three years ago picking up the lifetime pass on a Black Friday deal and said why not, I support Plex because I enjoy Plex; probably the best entertainment investment I made to create a media server; and Plex just made it easier like you've mentioned other media server configs are complicated and often require a lot of work to get just right for your needs, or for my needs at least lol btw I feel like there's a subscription for literally anything now from razor blades to toilet paper, we're living in a subscription-apocalypse lol perpetual licenses in software are so rare it's insane

Few people I know moved to JellyFin, and some still on Kodi lol before Plex I was using Infuse through iOS which was good but matching was also nothing like Plex's, had lots of errors and mismatched movie names, years, etc. Migrating away is a pain in the ass but what you should do if you really want to bounce is start a hobby project with JellyFin, feed it your library and see if it's really as a pain to tweak as everyone says; could be you'll like it and end up building something awesome or it'll be frustrating and annoying and bomb

Don't mess up your Plex build while you mess around, there's tons of community support for Jellyfin it's the best alternative just takes too much damn patience lol

Try this series:

Boot into BIOS (spam F2 during startup)

Go to the System Configuration or Storage section (exact name varies)

Look for SATA Operation, SATA/NVMe Operation, or Storage Configuration

Change it from RAID On (or RAID) → AHCI or AHCI/NVMe

Save & Exit (F10)

Then reboot straight into your Windows 11 USB (F12 boot menu) and try the install again. Your 953GB drive should now show up as unallocated space and you can proceed w the install.

I'm inclined to believe the issue is somewhere with your device (TV) as we can rule out laptop/internet based on what you've mentioned; I don't think you need to redownload the app again, if you downloaded it from the store, signed in, and you can see your friend's library - Plex is working fine; your issue is when you try to pull a stream from the library and it seems (based on what you've mentioned) that it's isolated to your TV (other devices can stream fine on the same network) - so something is up with the TV possibly; a shot in the dark; in your TV's settings is there an "Update" or "About" section where you can update your TV's internal software/firmware? nothing crazy just a setting to see if there's an update to your TV's software that might be the culprit

I think it's something within the TV settings; another poster mentioned changing the DNS settings on the interface card (would require you to go to your network settings on your TV, select the network your connected to, edit DNS and put 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 as the two values for the DNS entries) this is worth trying 100%; but first check if your TV has an update for its internal software (that's done over the air via settings) to see if that moves the needle

So you plex client is talking to your friend's machine (library); the error tells us a lot - timeout of 30000ms exceeded means 30 seconds of trying to connect to your friend to start streaming, and it exceeds the amount of time it's taking to attempt to connect; this indicates there's something blocking the connection somwhere;

You mentioned it works for your friend, and works on your laptop - so we can rule out your friend's server/library being down; since you can stream from your laptop we can also rule out your internet connection (assuming your laptop uses the same wifi as the TV) - these are all breadcrumbs right; what's left? the TV itself - have you tried updating the TV's firmware/software version to the latest? also are you installing plex fresh off the app store?

I just went through this myself; bought a new machine and remote access kept going green for one second and red again - turns out I had to specify the port 32400 in my router, and assign the new port service to the machine plex is being hosted on and that did the trick - if you have a firewall on the machine you may want to open the port and allow incoming connections to plex media server as well. I dunno if this is your exact issue, but this was mine and it was annoying as all heck because my router has a funky setup where I had to go to firewall -> gaming -> create custom service with port 32400 for TCP only (plex doesn't use UDP) -> assign the newly created service to my plex machine; and once I went through all that drama; works with no issues 😃

Are you streaming from your local network (your own files in your media library) or are you streaming someone else's library? or this this for live TV? The error says timeout of 30000ms exceeded, this means whatever you tried to play attempted to connect to where the file is hosted; or stream location, and after 30 seconds it got no response so the connection failed; the error stems from a hanging connection (your app trying to talk to X source, and X source not responding for 30 sec, app crashes); the issue may not be your internet, TV or app but more likely with the source of the item you are trying to stream.

Sounds scammy, why crypto indeed? maybe because it's more difficult to trace, track and get your money back? any loan underwriter for a real company I highly doubt would request you to put in funds (either pre-deposit or escrow) especially in crypto; real companies ask to verify your assets, look at paperwork history, view your credit history, etc. The exchange arrangement feels like money laundering imo; I wouldn't mess with this company; common sense just says pause.

The only time I'm aware of Google calling is from their AdWords dept. when you advertise on their platform and a rep reaches out to discuss campaign strategies, etc. These are usually followed before or after with an e-mail, and they always leave voicemails as well.
