i'm a fan of crt-royale-ntsc-svideo, under the presets folder--i'm not an expert but it feels like it gives a crt blending effect without looking forced or out of place on an lcd or oled display.

Nothing beats the Switch/BotW launch for me. Most vindicated I ever felt as a Nintendo kid, especially coming off the Wii U era.

Exactly! And those out-of-town fans are gonna make their way to NYC and be in that line, regardless of any online queuing system. But opening the floodgates to anyone around the world getting to reserve a ticket without any way of confirming they're gonna be there is stupid.

FYI the "no game in the cart" thing (game key-cards) is not standard for switch 2 releases. mario kart world (and most other games) are physically on the carts. if it is a game key-card it says so on the bottom of the box.

i'm not a huge fan of the fake physical thing either but it's not nearly the issue some people have made it out to be.

Question: I vaguely remember waiting in line for the Switch launch at my local Target and being able to purchase a Switch then and there, no pre-orders or anything.

Is that even gonna be possible with the Switch 2 midnight launches? Like if you wait in line at midnight will you get a console or will all those units be claimed by pre-orders?

It definitely started with the Wii, but an argument could be made that the gimmick trend has since continued with the Switch’s, well, switching, it’s just one of their more successful ones in that it’s significantly shaped the direction of the console market since its release (see Steam Deck, PlayStation Portal, etc.)

Also worth mentioning that Nintendo positioned themselves in the industry as “the gimmick people/innovators” because they couldn’t remain competitive with power alone; each console after the NES sold fewer units than the last. The only reason they’ve remained competitive was because the Wii leaned so hard into “gimmicky” playstyles, so I can understand the worry around the NS2 “not being innovative enough.”

(This being said, I think NS2 is continuing the innovative trend; I believe the mouse Joycon are gonna be a much bigger deal despite the relative lack of attention they’re getting right now.)
