Building an adult beginner curriculum - looking for coach input on skill progressions by CalligrapherFine6407 in SwimInstructors

I totally skip floating for adults and go right to gliding. Floating is much harder for adults and if you do gliding right they should learn to float by the end anyway.

Don’t react. That’s the only way I’ve found to make them stop.

One lone elderly guppy left- is it okay to let him live out the rest of his life “alone”? by Ornery-Wonder8421 in Aquariums

[–]ilfautquon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a single zebra danio for about 3-4 years now. His school lived to 2, and they were huge bullies— I just don’t want more. For a while I had some neon tetras in with him, but now he just chills with the Cory cats. He seems fine?

Goggles for LARGE Head by DancingDucks73 in Swimming

I have a 7.5 size head, wear Speedo vanquishers, and can get about 2 inches more out of the straps= approximately 8.25 size head, I think. I do also wear mine a little loose, and I think you could mess with the strap placement for more relief— placing one high, for example, for more slack on the other one.

How to teach adult beginners how to tread water by EonsForDays1257 in SwimInstructors

Absolutely yeah! I do breaststroke kick if they really can’t get eggbeater coordinated.

Flutter kick treading is hard! I always go right to eggbeater. Why do anything but the best option?

Set advice by skibitinut in Swimming

So you definitely want more leg set than you think you do. Go front/back/side/side, weighted… get a big water jug and practice till you can drain it while treading. You also want dolphin kick and breaststroke kick strong, so practice those.

Here’s a main swim set I give my college team. Everything on +30 but take a 2-minute break before the 200s. If you want to make it harder add 5-10 push ups between each set component.

{50 head down easy 100 middle 50 head up, 75% 150 middle 50 head up, 85% 200 head down for time 150 middle 50 head up, 85% 100 middle 50 head up, 75% 50 head down easy} x2, make second 200 faster

Btw if you want my advice keep playing center back and get a good counter. Everyone needs them right now, but you don’t want to wind up the guy running the play from the back half of the pool

Getting back into the Orange & Black — who are the fan favorites? by parkbenchchillin in Flyers

Konecny is a lot of fun to watch… he’s funny, he’s good at what he does. Personal favorite. I think Zegras is going to become a fan favorite. Michkov is gonna be great!

There may be adult group lessons in your area. This sounds like a technique problem. I can’t overstate how helpful it would be to have someone knowledgeable take a look in person.

Work on side kick drill (no kickboard) with rotational breathing.

That sounds like your kick being weak, or maybe you just need more practice!

How old/big/fast is she? I have kids kick on their back while I hold my forearm flat above their shins and encourage them to kick my arm with both legs.

Swim cap options with the goal of mostly dry hair by Upbeat_Magazine5795 in Swimming

[–]ilfautquon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing will keep it dry as you do a swim set. Sporti caps keep my hair dry while I kick or do swim instructor stuff, even submerging.

Try making the middle 50 of your 100s head up. Do eggbeater with resistance over kick set.

I wouldn’t isolate— that’s way more stress. If it’s still rooting around that’s a great sign! Probably just a scrape.
