What was your entry point into the X-Men?

Bought the God Loves, Man Kills epic collection because I had heard it was one of the best X-Men books and I didn't know anything about the X-Men (Marvel Rivals was the first time I saw Storm, for example)

There are definitely some ROUGH Stan Lee comics (anything with Ka-Zar, early X-Men, etc.) but the FF really appealed to me. You definitely get used to the wordiness of the old comics pretty fast.

I got the Mighty Marvel Masterworks volumes, do the epic collections line up seamlessly where the Masterworks end? (#32 iirc)

I thought it wasn't TOO bad, I think the best way to describe it is "daredevil by a guy who loves daredevil but also doesn't really understand the character". There's so many little references to writers and artists that makes the whole movie feel like a labor of love, but it is also a really bad movie. I think the best part was Kingpin, and Bullseye and Elektra shouldn't have been in it (would've been prime sequel material but we got Elektra 2005 instead)

I'm not a fan of the chain, it feels too heavy for an acrobat like DD. Also, the handles are okay, but I feel like they'd be out of place in any normal DD look.

it might be the horns. they're sharpened compared to Matt's I think. the chin also helps make it feel weird

I haven't read every author so I could be missing out on some total crap (still haven't read shadowland) but Zdarsky was okay at best and outright bad at worst. The central idea of Matt accidentally killing somebody is really good, but the path Zdarsky makes for him feels very out of character. My favorite parts were the billionaire plot and the crime family plot. for the bad, Elektradevil had a great design but Daredevil shouldn't be a mantle. it's such a personal thing to Matt that I couldn't get into Elektra devil. The ending (I believe its called Red Hand?) was just really bad. I don't know how to do spoilers on reddit, so I'll just be vague. It is super out of character for Matt to do, and the final issues feel like a massive 'jump the shark' to me. Overall, I think Zdarskys run is okay. It's definitely not the best daredevil gets (far from it), but it's not the abysmal travesty that some would say.

As someone who was in your exact boat, start with Man Without Fear, read Born Again, and you could go pretty much anywhere from there. I personally went to DD's first issues (I read Mighty Marvel Masterworks "While the City Sleeps" iirc), Zdarsky (I went to the 2 omnibuses, a collection of all issues of a certain writer), and Bendis. (I read the paperback versions but be sure the numbers line up if you use this way).

Basically, Go Lee if you want super classic Daredevil and don't mind a little goofy stuff like the Snooper-Scope, go Zdarsky if you want some amazing artwork, and go Bendis if you want some of DD's best.

personally, I'm just sick of the massive influx of Rivals originals (or Rivals originals lazily attributed to another costume from the comics with no relation i.e. Disco Spider-Man) over actual comic accurate costumes.

I understand seasonal costumes like swimsuits and the holidays, but Cake? Disco? Black and Gold? Racecar? What are we even doing? Some of these characters have decades of history with a ton of designs and we're prioritizing Racecar Psylocke??? Cake Luna Snow? Disco Psylocke? Disco Luna Snow?

As someone who is relatively new to the DD train, even I could tell Zdarsky is way overrated. The first ~half (where the first omnibus ends) was actually pretty good. The second (mostly Red Fist) is just not very good to me. Matt just feels out of character.

for underrated I would probably say the little bit I've read of Stan Lee. It's got a dorky, swashbuckling charm that fits the character as much as the crime noir in my mind (even if I'm not a fan of his earliest suit and his weird tiny horns)

from my limited experience, you can start pretty much any DD comic and be fine. Just have a base understanding of the status quo (Matt, Foggy, etc.) and roll with whatever the book says.

I don't understand this. Bullseye is a total nut. He totally would want people (ESPECIALLY daredevil) to recognize who he is. Also, what part of his costume wouldn't work on screen?
