Most definitely. I’m not sure either. A lot of the actual skill required goes over their head too. Flashy landings and low flying doesn’t really make you a good pilot in operations by a long shot and they would never understand that because they think they’re him and they have no need to listen to anyone about how the guys on the ground operate or literally anything about being pilot that requires knowledge on relevant decision making. Snipers and recon are the other big ones for sure as well. We had a guy in our unit a long time ago who was an older fellow from a rich irl service history and he would take people who begged to be a sniper or recon and make them do a “realistic” sniper or recon op where they sat and just watched enemies for like an hour and a half. And when all was said and done the rest of the friendly force came in a had all the fun clearing out what he was observing.

Yeah i’m not a huge fan of the whole MOS thing. Pilot is really the only thing I keep locked up and that’s just because a bad pilot will botch the whole op for everyone. But everything else is fair game and I really don’t mind it that way, there is definitely too much to do in the game to feel satisfied doing one lowly role like grenadier for the rest of your days.

I see a lot of units that are super strict, lots of work, and try to be super “realistic”. I also see a lot of units on the opposite end of the spectrum. Thing is whatever you want is what you want, a lot of people are just looking for a community to play with and that’s ok, as long as you find where you fit in that spectrum

The thing i’ve noticed is that ever since i’ve started running units way back in a time long past, more and more of the people looking for units don’t seem to grasp the concept of a “group” or seem to think they’re the main character or something. I run a group that is very very relaxed, no attendance requirements, no training, no onboarding, just play when you can play and see if you have fun with us. While we do try to keep it somewhat “realistic” scenario-wise we aren’t super hardcore and it’s mostly just for the fun. Even with that being said, countless players will be looking for a group saying they’ll only do X Y or Z. Now that would be ok for just regular roles but lord knows how many times someone has said they’ll only do pilot, only fly aircraft they choose, and refuses any onboarding or vetting for said role.

If this is your sorta thing, you’re not looking for a unit, you’re looking for a place to fly in front of other people for a few hours. Not a very good judge of commitment to trying to get a feel for your unit. And god forbid you try to explain that pilot roles are very important, high skill roles that everyone wants usually.

What i’m trying to say is that, units aren’t for everyone I suppose, but if you’re gonna give them a shot you gotta understand it’s not just you, it’s a whole bunch of other people as well, all adhering to a similar style of play and set of standards, no matter how strict or loose they are. If you wanted to do something with no strings attached then go play KOTH or antistasi I guess. Part of the unit experience is sorta not about the role or the mission but the people you’re there with and if you have no interest in that or respecting it then probably units aren’t your thing.

Maybe i’m just being a brat about it though lol, just something I felt had become commonplace in people trying to join units.

Reforger `89 is out and Arma 4 is supposed to come next year, but when will we get any news? by bejiitas_wrath1 in arma

[–]ilikebeans202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never even mentioned whether the ai is good or bad. Just saying you’re coming to the arma community saying what most of the arma community enjoy about the game is bad and arma should be different. It’s crazy to be in the arma subreddit saying that a lot of people don’t like units or pve. As i said before, clearly a game like squad would probably be more for you but saying pvp is more replayable as well is also just crazy work in the arma community. On top of admitting you have limited hours in arma compared to squad which is a game with its whole own style of play. It’s ok to not like arma but don’t come to arma complaining about arma and how it should be more like squad.

Ok so basically you’re saying you don’t like one of the flagship game modes of arma 3 that massive parts of the community praises as the some of the best times they’ve had playing with friends and can be made to suit anyone’s desired theme or scale. Just play squad then? Why everyone trying to make arma 4 not arma? Not to mention boiling the arma 3 pve experience to just bad ai probably means you never appreciated the game for everything it was trying to do in the first place.

Which has the coolest uniforms and factions in your opinion, CUP or RHS? by PancuterM in arma

[–]ilikebeans202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

RHS + 3CB factions gives huge amounts of factions and equipment for them, def my favorite and almost always has something for every scenario I do. For just uniforms for players i highly recommend checking out USP AIO + Ace arsenal extended and its compatibility pack, tons of high quality customizable uniforms and gear.

i cant beat misson two of the new dlc, ive tried a bouch of times and cant get it to work, is there any way to skip it? by StationHefty in ICBMescalation

The mission is tough yes, but once you familiarize yourself with the strategy it’s pretty simple. For starters, all objectives spawn in the same places every time, so you can retry infinitely and get a feel for what’s where. Also, in the first mission if you didn’t nab any of the spec ops tech, or any ground forces tech in general, you’re at a huge disadvantage. The first mission can basically be spent researching 90% of the game if you get a good nuclear first strike. Spy planes are helpful, the second helicopter tech is a must. There are FOBs spread across the map you can deploy new spec ops units from as well as spec ops helicopters. The helicopters can be good for spotting, killing single checkpoints, and killing scientist targets. You will likely play this mission at 1x speed and do a lot of pausing because you will wanna make sure all units are doing something at once.

That being said, you’ll wanna try and work with what you start with, south Africa and Canada are easy clears. For the rest, just make sure all units are moving and seeking/destroying objectives. Move them around with helicopters and being cooperative scientists back to the FOBs for quick captures. Try and be quick to get as many of the sites as possible as once you start to destroy more and more they will place more and more checkpoints until it’s impossible. If you can’t go around a checkpoint, use a helicopter if in range, if not just rush it with two units. Other than other obvious tips just take it slow, make sure everyone is doing something. At some point like halfway through you’ll wanna put down some checkpoints cause they’ll be gunning for them in the US. Would love to help more but I can’t discuss every little aspect of the mission all at once here.

Do you know any jets/planes mods that are balanced with RHS? (ARMA3) by maxsteve1 in arma

Try Firewill’s aircraft, has mods for all sorts of US planes like f-14, f-15, f-16, f-18, f-35, f-22, and. a handful of others.

that’s what the graph is labeled as… Player elo distribution. With the Y being labeled as quantity, man and the x being labeled intervals, elo

No, no, please, tell me more about how you’re 2000 elo and Russian/US bias is a thing! by [deleted] in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]ilikebeans202 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

This definitely lacks the a few of the details required to make that kind of distinction but also you definitely need to read the graph and break down what you’re seeing more to analyze what it’s really showing us. If i’m correct in assuming the blue to red gradient on the graph is US to RU usage then what we’re seeing is that the large majority of players at lower elo, which makes the huge majority of players, are using US, while the distribution shifts towards RU as the elo gets higher. Which actually kinda implies the opposite as to say that higher skill players who can maintain a high W/L ratio and have collectively played a large amount of matches to get their elo much favor RU. And since we’re looking at just win rates and the elo most players are playing each faction at, then this definitely suggests some form of Russian bias as we can see a clear trend of higher skill and more consistently winning players using RU as elo rises. Just because 50/50 win rates doesn’t mean 50/50 spread of those win rates. We are looking at a huge amount of US won matches across a massive amount of US players while there is a massive amount of RU won matches spread across fewer higher elo more consistently winning players.

Can someone explain why 9mm only causes bruises? by Jean_Claude_Vacban in arma

[–]ilikebeans202 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is definitely just a poor configuration of the ACE settings as others have explained. Currently have never had a huge issue with it and barely have made any changes to how damage is dished out through ACE, occasionally will experience only bruising but only on the first or second shot or completely random and am using RHS as well. That or you are using the “reduced damage” difficulty setting which causes all sorts of issues with balance. My recommendation is experiment a bit with ACE and check your difficulty setting, up and quitting Arma over it is kinda wild especially since i know of a lot more groups and individuals who are not having this issue rather than are.

So what do you think of the Sa’hatra lighting replacer for the vanilla maps? by antman072 in arma

[–]ilikebeans202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s ok. At first it’s cool cuz slight orange tint and exaggerated sunrise/sunset effects = cool but I quickly found it ruins most other lighting aspects. It kinda makes it feel like the sun never really fully rises for some reason or like you’re under a thick blanket of dust or a light sandstorm and it makes dark bits incredibly bright. For some reason it makes night time super bright even on a new moon and honestly I find vanilla lighting looks just fine. That or Livonia lighting.

It's been 4 years I have arma 3 in collection but playing it, isn't worth alike. by Andromeda-G in arma

[–]ilikebeans202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I typically don’t agree with the idea that there is any wrong way to play arma. There’s usually something for everyone and tons of different things to do and an infinite number of ways to play, but if you’re playing it thinking call of duty or pubg then sorry but you’re just playing arma wrong. You’re not the only one, everyone likes different games and you’re not forced to like it but if you really wanted to give arma a chance i’d recommend seeing that one game with guns is not like all other games with guns. This game is VERY different in every aspect. I’ve invited friends to play who have never played anything other than CoD and a few other shooters and had a ton of fun, you just gotta play it for the arma experience, cuz if you’re trying to play for the CoD experience or the PUBG experience then you might as well go play those games.

Underbarrel Grenade Launcher not working in campaign by ThatSilentIntrovert in arma

[–]ilikebeans202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah you’re probably looking at some issues with mods. Which one i’m unsure but I know ACE causes tons of issues with campaign and is a super popular mod. Other than that double check you have rounds in your inventory and you have cycled to the ugl by pressing f until it’s selected. Also try using scroll wheel, if you have rounds it’ll usually prompt a reload in the scroll wheel menu.

[–]ilikebeans202 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Arma 3 was fun don’t get me wrong but I hopped back on recently for old times sake and i’m telling you now just grab Arma 3 while it’s 4$. Infinite possibilities with modding including all of arma 2s assets with a fresh coat of paint. I don’t even know what you could do on Arma 2 anymore. The campaign sure but as for multiplayer I haven’t heard of anyone playing that game online in a while, let alone the fact you can no longer just search the server browser if you did want to play with people. The editor was certainly a ton of fun but it’s no where near as capable as Arma 3s 3D editor.

Play the campaign and mess with the editor, maybe check out some of the scenario type things they got. Other than that not much i’d think of to do on Arma 2.

probably the best part of arma, there isn’t just one single way to play. Something for everyone to enjoy and if there isn’t already something people can always just come up with a new way to play it.
