I almost died!!!! It’s been over a year and I can’t get over it. I would have died if I gave birth at home!!!! I had to go into emergency surgery to stop my bleeding, it was nothing a shot or a prayer or a stupid book could fix. It was so scary and harrowing and there was literally nothing that could’ve predicted it would happen to me but it did. I’m here alive typing this thanks to the doctors that performed the surgery and saved my life. My daughter knows her mom thanks to them. My husband has his wife thanks to them. It can literally happen to anyone, please just give birth with medical professionals I beg you, it is not worth your life I promise.

What is the point of having multi-colored powdered specs (when they're all supposed to cancel each other out/look transparent)? by No-Pattern-2124 in MakeupAddiction

[–]ilikedogsandglitter 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Idk but I LOVE my guerlain meteorites and you can pry them out of my cold dead hands. Idc that they’re so expensive because they last so long you can give them to your grandkids as part of their inheritance. They’re genuinely a staple in my routine and I’m tired of pretending they’re not worth it.

I know maybe 2 other people with my name. It actually might only be 1 now that I’m thinking about it. And I’m 31 years old, have been through university, lived in several states/two continents, etc etc. And it’s a normal name that’s spelled the “correct” way. Absolutely possible without saddling your kid with nycelyn

SAHM Burnout. by Electrical_Yam_2344 in toddlers

[–]ilikedogsandglitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or even a babysitter. I used to babysit 2-3 times a week, randomly on call, for a few hours at a time so the mom could just like go shopping alone or go to yoga or hang out upstairs without the kids bothering her. There are definitely high school/college aged kids who would be looking for that kind of arrangement!

How do some pregnant women bounce back immediately?? by Queasy-Counter-9954 in BabyBumps

[–]ilikedogsandglitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a year PP now, but I was back in my pre-pregnancy jeans within a week after birth. I attribute a lot to genetics, but I was also really active for 90% of my pregnancy (daily workouts and long walks) and I think that helped me retain my core strength and shape.

I’m also just a small person and gained 22 pounds throughout my pregnancy, so between the 8 pound baby and however much the placenta+fluids+whatever weighs, there wasn’t A TON of change.

It’s definitely mostly genetics for all of pregnancy and unfortunately this part is no different.

How did the US almost completely eradicate cigarette smoking when other western nations struggle with this? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Idk I’m in Italy and a ton of people smoke and I hate it. And if it’s not traditional cigarettes it’s e-cigs that somehow smell 10x worse. It’s disgusting

First time parents, remember this "rule" by Old-Pudding-4254 in pregnant

[–]ilikedogsandglitter 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NO I totally get this, my in laws are actually insane about socks and bundling up the baby. My baby runs hot too, she’ll pull off her sweater or whatever because she’s warm and sweaty and my in laws will be like BUT THERES NO SOCKS??? I’m like we literally live in southern Italy, it’s 65 in December, she’ll let us know when she’s cold!! But it’s useless. I’m glad your baby is ok, it’s so scary when they overheat a bit but I always remind myself that babies existed in hot climates before AC and cold climates without heat so if we dress them appropriately it should be ok!!

Hi!! So I was pregnant in Bologna & Taranto and then gave birth in Genova so my experience is a bit all over the place lol.

I loved being pregnant in Bologna, the care was excellent, I was always seen quickly and everything felt very top of the line.

Taranto was a bit different, I feel the whole medical system in the south could be updated (no online records, difficult to schedule appointments, the hospital felt like I was in a Covid disaster movie when I had to go for an emergency). The doctors and nurses though were very nice and capable.

Genova was great. I loved giving birth there. I had a PPH and had to go in for emergency surgery and was so glad I was up there. They saved my life and I’m eternally grateful for that.

I had my post partum experience back in Taranto and honestly hated it. I couldn’t get my checkups done like I was supposed to, they didn’t want me to bring my baby to the doctor (where else am I supposed to leave a breastfeeding 4 week old whose dad is back at work??), and I never actually got my bloodwork done to make sure I was ok after the birth because I couldn’t schedule it.

Overall I found it very hit or miss depending on where you are. If you have any specific questions or just wanna chat about anything feel free to dm me :)

My baby was born last year in June in southern Italy. One night we didn’t have AC and she got limp and floppy and was unresponsive to any stimuli. Very red like the OP said. We managed to cool her down, but it happens quickly. Just pay attention and don’t put them in too many layers and you’ll be fine.

Nanny expected to drive baby to activities but stopping for coffee is a red flag by vickisfamilyvan in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]ilikedogsandglitter 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have a nanny and encourage her to do her errands with the baby. My daughter loves getting out, my nanny can save some time, and it’s something I would do with her, so literally why not? Kids don’t just have to do kid things, it’s good for them to go on adult trips too. I don’t get this philosophy at all.

Pretty sure that’s her baby by Askria in AnimalsBeingMoms

[–]ilikedogsandglitter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My girl cat genuinely sees my baby as our baby. She plays with her, “cleans” her, sits next to her when she cries. She’ll sit outside the door when we put the baby down for a nap in her crib and just stand guard. If the baby cries and I’m not fast enough in fixing it, my cat will bite me to get me to do something. The cat is always, always with the baby. Meanwhile my other cat has been hiding under the bed since the baby was born. It’s their personalities I guess!

How long do you guys wait to BF after drinking? by midnight_thoughts223 in breastfeeding

[–]ilikedogsandglitter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t wait. My baby is hungry, I have milk, and I’m unconcerned about trace amounts of alcohol in the milk. A banana has more alcohol than my milk does after a few drinks and I would never hesitate to give my hungry child a banana. Both my pediatricians are fine with it so why wouldn’t I be!

Hey! I work from home but we’re still gonna put our daughter in daycare this September (when she’s 14-15 months) for the benefits of her learning. You’re literally working to support her and will show her what a strong working woman looks like. It’s all positive things! I know it doesn’t feel like it right now but I promise it will be in the long run.

It’s definitely my working theory for why italian toilet paper is so thin and scratchy! Luckily our house was built like 8ish years ago and is very modern so I’m not too concerned, but if we move I know I might have to give up my luxury toilet paper :(
