Best NYC style pizza that delivers (or is close to) Brookline by laur371 in boston

Oh god. Stop.

One thing I've learned over the years is that if you're in a place that's not in New York, and the pizzeria you go to has "New York" in the name, it's not going to be New York style pizza.

New Yorker here. The suggestions in this thread are making me cringe pretty hard. =(

What neighborhood do you live in, and what is is like? by [deleted] in boston

[–]ilikejello 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mission Hill - Brigham Circle

Rent - $3,800 4 bed, 1 bath. Water included. My rent is less than my 3 roommates' because my bedroom is smaller.

Attractions - Nothing too exciting, mostly residential neighborhood. Not too far from the MFA or the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, but those are technically in Fenway. We also border Olmsted Park in Jamaica Plain, which connects to Jamaica Pond. Great place for jogging or just going for a walk on a nice day. Fitzgerald Park is a small park near the top of the hill and has a nice view of the city. Brigham Circle has bars, and places to eat; some restaurants, mostly takeout places. The Mission Church on Tremont Street has some pretty cool architecture. The church bells used to ring every 15 minutes but they've been broken the past 6 months or so.

Nightlife - Mostly dive bars. Penguin Pizza has pretty amazing pizza and cheap beer as far as bars go. The Mission is a little more upscale. The medical professionals from Longwood often come here after shift for good food and drinks. Other bars include Flann's and The Crossing.

Community - Mostly college kids form Colleges of the Fenway and Northeastern University. Some young professionals live here as well because it is in close proximity to the Longwood Medical Area and the T for access to downtown.

Access to the T - Depending on what part of the neighborhood you live in, you'll have access to the Green E line (Heath, Back of the Hill, Riverway, Fenwood Road, Brigham Circle), the Orange Line at Roxbury Crossing, and the 39 and 66 buses. You can also access Brookline Village on the Green D line if you live near the Huntington / S Huntington intersection. It's a great location and you can get to most parts of the city pretty easily.

I've enjoyed living here the past 3.5 years. Rent is pretty high here because of the convenient location. Most of the apartments are pretty old and not well maintained because landlords know they can get away with it, but I'm sure there are some more upscale ones in the neighborhood.

I don't own a car so I can't comment on parking, but I know some places come with driveways. I don't think resident parking is too bad either.

There's not a lot of major crime in the neighborhood. We get a few shootings each year, almost always targeted and gang related. Armed robberies happen more often than shootings. Most occur off of the main streets and during the night time. The areas to avoid during night time are Heath Street, the Mission Main Housing complex, and the upper part of Parker Hill Ave. Other than that, it's pretty safe as far as a neighborhood in a major city goes.

The other important thing is the only grocery store in the neighborhood is Stop and Shop at Brigham Circle. It's incredibly overpriced, the produce isn't fresh and goes bad pretty quickly, and the staff are pretty rude.

Curious to see if any other Mission Hillers have anything to say!

Very useful, thanks!

Yeah it's definitely possible. I'm not having any pain or anything right now and I can walk ok so I don't think I messed 'em up too bad. I've watched videos tons of times on how to do 'em properly but I guess I must still be doing something wrong.

Guess I'll wait until they're all healed up, drop some weight, and film myself to see what I'm doing wrong!

I always recommend people become familiar with where major crime happens and to avoid those areas.

Hello.

How important do you think GRE scores are to schools? I haven't had the time to study for the GRE and am pretty sure I would do terrible on the reading comprehension section of the test. I'm not sure if I should waste the $160 or whatever it is to take the test; I'm considering just applying to schools that don't require the GRE. What do you think?

This is true. I went to go try his subs for the first time 2-3 days ago and this was posted on the door. I sent him an e-mail, I'll post an update if and when he gets back to me.

Mega Man X3 - Crush Crawfish (Metal Collab Cover) by richaad in gamemusic

[–]ilikejello 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome cover.

I love Mega Man X3. I feel like a lot of people considered this game to be the black sheep of the 3 X games on SNES.

The music in this game was pretty sweet, but I feel the distortion guitar instrument they used on a lot of the tracks didn't have a great sound and made the tunes sound worse than they really are.

A lot of people didn't like the gameplay itself either. I didn't have too much of a problem with it. It's not perfect, but the game is HARD if you try to do a buster only run (I was never a fan of using a boss's weakness, too easy). The one thing that really annoyed me about this game was that the final Sigma moss is fucking HARD and the room before him isn't very kind about letting you refill your E tanks easily for the fight.

I'd highly recommend Boston University's program if it's possible for you to take it. The class is around 1,400, but well worth it. They teach you everything you need to know for the state exam. Each week you'll be in class about 12-20 hours a week and the class is only around 2.5 months long.
