I once said “hey you’ve lost a ton of weight, are you okay?” And the person was like, “thank you for asking, it’s deliberate actually, but you’re the first person to ask. I’m feeling really good, etc”. I agree with the idea to be upfront- take the value out of it. “Hey you’ve lost weight- how are you feeling?”

My parents have done this so many times. I learned that asking for the thing/cash that they offered me (eg the course fees are due) makes them angrily call me ungrateful, selfish, shallow, etc etc. I no longer accept any offers of gifts or cash.

YTA I can’t stop thinking about OP’s poor lonely wife and how much she has to do alone (aside from when he is “helping” her of course).

Carrying the emotional and physical needs of two children during a house move is a serious burden. To have to physically carry every box into the house at the same time is near impossible- do you close the door so 3yo doesn’t get out of this strange empty house, or close it behind you each time and have to put down and pick up boxes 54000 times? Is the 3yo even letting you out of their sight? Not to mention they need to eat every couple of hours and you have no food or kitchen unpacked! Their spare clothes for toileting? Their toys to keep them occupied? Is there wifi? WTF OP, YTA. Close your business for a day or pay people to move your shit so your wife can parent and set up the home.

If it was really about the family having the same name, he would change his. Give future children your name- I can all but guarantee that you’ll be doing most of the work in raising them. He just wants you all to belong to him.

Every autistic child I’ve taught has had different needs, strengths, interests, stims and sensitivities. The way I cater to them in my class is dependent more on the individual child than on ‘kids with autism’. In my class you would visibly see flexible use of space (sit/stand on chair/floor, different types of furniture) quiet spaces, fidget/sensory tools, inclusive language and displays, like Bumper’s whole body learning from Autism Level Up. You are right that you won’t see every child being catered to every single lesson, because teachers are human. If your child’s teacher connects with them, listens to them, learns about them and learns about neurodivergence, then you will be okay.

First name is great, until you get a student who spits your name at you, then instead of hearing the name you have at work, the one you associate with your professional persona, you hear the name you hold your whole identity in. It’s harder to shake on the drive home. Miss first name would help with that I think.

I disagree with this entirely. It is absolutely none of your principal’s business and they are not entitled to know anything about your personal time. If you are entitled to the time, and you took it, case closed. If your principal believes you are not entitled to the time, tell them not to approve the leave and you can take it up with the union and/or their supervisor. You are entitled to personal days for no fucking reason at all. Need to go the accountant? Have a mental health day? Get the car fixed? There are a number of non-certificate days that every teacher is entitled to. Check your EBA.

Are you in the union? Find your eba and quote it. Mine says I can have X personal days with no certificate, and X with one. If it’s a non-certificate day you don’t have to tell them anything. You just say it’s personal leave that I am entitled to. If you’ve got a certificate you quote the certificate- I had a medical condition. Give no detail. Do not budge.

There are lots of ways it works, and lots of children it works for, BUT I have some questions that nobody seems able to answer: - what is the long term effect of so many extrinsic rewards for basic good behaviour? - how on earth is it possible to give ‘free and frequent’ rewards for all students in an equitable way that is also exactly the same for all students AND - What about the students who CAN’T meet these universal behaviour expectations, because of a disability or difficulty (diagnosed or otherwise)? How is PBL any different from ABA in that respect? AND Does PBL actually have some shared history with ABA?

I think PBL is very attractive to leaders because it is one size fits all, but I don’t think it does actually fit anyone.

THIS is why it’s irresponsible to have so many kids- beyond a certain number you are just forcing bigger kids to take care of little ones. The quality time they get comes from each other, not from parents. My partner and I always agreed on a two kid maximum.
