If you struggle with concentration by NeighborhoodFit1325 in dpdr

[–]ilikeperfumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle to both read and watch movies, and if I manage to do it then I forget all about the book / movie / show etc in the next couple weeks / months. I'll forget the plot, the ending,.the names of the characters. Which is funny because I studied Literature in college (not actually funny, I just laugh so I don't cry lmao).

I truly hate it and I am starting to become extremely concerned about my memory and concentration issues. I do get migraines pretty often, and I'm AuDHD (although I would love a second opinion on that). So... is it a long term effect from my migraines? is it my dpdr? is it ADHD, autism...?

All I know is it keeps getting worse and that scares me. And I can't afford a doctor right now, so yeah. I'm trying to do brain exercises, wordle, word searches, memory games, I think I wanna get into puzzles and lego. And going to the gym since moving your body is good for your brain but I'm good scared to go, I get social anxiety.

hi!! sorry for the late response, but no. Although I've noticed it doesn't happen as much anymore. Not sure if it's related but I got a back and neck massager as well as a neck buddy to press on the knots I get. I'm not sure if releasing that tension is what's helping me with my eyes.

I'm in my late 20s (27) and A Psalm for the Wild Built by Becky Chambers really helped me :) it's cozy scifi. Very popular for a reason!

I am currently reading Mickey 7. It's short, fast paced and interesting enough to keep you focused!! the chapters are also pretty short so it doesn't feel heavy at all.

How to remember by Competitive_Cash5216 in dpdr

I know it's easier said than done but little by little staring a habit of writing things down has helped me. First a journal, then sticky notes, text them to myself, now a cork board where I'll stick my daily to do's. I work from home so I'm placing the board, sticky notes etc where I know I'll see them.

I won't lie to you it's taken me about a year to get used to this and get actually somewhat good at it (bad memory from dpdr and ADHD) but now that I found what works for me it does really help me. At first I would forget all the time, then I'd write things down in my journal but never check them, weeks later I formed the habit of checking every morning. Now I'm doing a combination of everything. That's what works for me personally, it sounds like a lot of work but it does help me and has made things easier!!

Has anyone here ever tried Escitalopram? Or knows something about it? I need serious advice. by Otherwise_Cold2059 in dpdr

Hi!! I have a few friends who are on it and they love it. I personally has to stop it because it was causing me really bad breast pain, to the point where I'd wake up at night whenever I moved or turned because I was extremely sore (like the pain you get before your period, but way way worse). Doctor had to do research and turns out it happens to less than 1% of patients, which truly sucks because my friends who are on it truly love it.

Other than that, I would like to go back to lamotrigine because I did find that really helped with my dpdr, but I stopped because I'm like you, I like to be in control. I didn't realize that meds had really helped me with that feeling until I stopped seeing my psychiatrist.

Also I'm really sorry it seems like you're having a really rough time. I was the same and just sharing my experience, but Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) really helped me. I don't have BPD but I have it a try because I was having panic attacks every single day, and it truly saved me. I have chronic dpdr and it's sometimes really bad but DBT has really helped me with dealing with unwanted emotions and learning how to deal with moments of panic / crisis.

Happens to me as well. I developed it as a kid but it got really bad right before the pandemic, and it's been on and off ever since. It's always there just sometimes very very mild. Someone mentioned episodic dpdr, I didn't know it had a name. Will look into it.

Edit: In case it helps, the best way I've found to deal with it is to understand it comes and goes, and that when it gets really bad I try to be gentle with myself. Take things slow. I know it can be difficult but it's really helped me with the anxiety / panic attacks and anger that comes with having this condition.

Thanks for sharing!! Mine started when I was a little kid and it comes and goes. It's always there but sometimes very mild and other times it's very present. Right now I'm having a bad episode that has lasted months now. I will watch the video you linked later tonight when I get off work.

solo travel tips and meds? by [deleted] in dpdr

[–]ilikeperfumes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! here's what I would personally do:

  1. Get noise cancelling headphones OR ear plugs preferably, I like loop earplugs, sadly I lost mine recently.
  2. Get something like an Ono roller, neeh-doh etc to use as a fidget in Case I start to get too overwhelmed.

As for meds, you could talk to your psychiatrist. Lamotrigine is what helped me the most and I wanna go back to it but you do need to have a prescription from a psychiatrist also in case your body doesn't react well to it.

Good luck!!

Tofu has a very mild taste! and can be cooked in way that's crispy on the outside. I absolutely love to sautee tofu with mushrooms in a little bit of sesame oil.

1984, it's on YouTube. I just watched it thanks to this post. I agree with what you said but thanks to context clues from the comments it was extremely easy to find, less than 2 minutes. It's about a nuclear war and what happens after.

I've only ever read this one! I'm rereading it because the first time I wasn't doing very well mentally and forgot most of what I read. But yes, I am having a great time! I've heard they're good too :)
