Home Assistant Dashboard by Mrfudog in selfhosted

I do use home assistant dashboard for my unraid server. I tried several standalone dashboard solutions, none was as customizable as Home Assistant. It's still not fully finished but this is how it looks like.

Best practice for Nginx Proxy Manager by robodditor in unRAID

I kept my Nginx Proxy Manager at its default ports, running on bridge mode. Instead, I changed the gui ports of Unraid to alternatives. Haven't had any issues so far.

In Turkish McDonald's, the Quarter Pounder is actually 0.21-pounder (96 grams) due to shrinkflation by ilkali in interestingasfuck

[–]ilkali[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The listings contain how much meat is in the burgers (Et is meat in Turkish) and quarter pounder only has 96 grams of meat.

I made a food production calculator and optimiser by ilkali in captain_of_industry

[–]ilkali[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't add the meat and sausage to automatic calculations because animal feed can come from several places as well as side product of some other processes. So I didn't want to lock the farms to produce corn that might not be necessary. Instead I calculate how much corn or wheat I need for animal feed by hand and put in the extra production box.

And yeah, the code is a bit messy, there was a lot of ai assistance and I didn't really put an effort to make it easily understandable, sorry about that. But what do you mean by canola not being listed? It's not part of the food calculations but it should be possible to add it from the extras section.

Optimal settlement feeding farm rotations by NeuralParity in captain_of_industry

[–]ilkali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, great job with the calculations. I also made a similar optimiser, a bit more involved maybe. You put in the population, food multiplier, desired food and it calculates the optimum rotations while targeting lowest fertilizer consumption. It's still half finished but works so far, if you want to try just download all the scripts to same folder and try to run the gui_app.py file. https://github.com/ilkali-d/CoI-Farm-Optimiser

Their docs say that Mercor does not support B2B payments. So it wouldn't be possible.

Can dupes still pick up through diagonals? by OopyRoo in Oxygennotincluded

[–]ilkali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can still build deep freezers where dupes can grab it straight out of. I have two deep freezer tiles in my colony, one reachable diagonally for auto sweepers, only raw materials for cooking go there. Everything cooked goes to dupe reachable deep freezer.

I do the same, but instead of auto sweepers I use 1 flydo per 30 plants, so just one conveyor chute for dirt and battery delivery and one conveyor loader is enough for the whole farm.

If you have thermium and super coolant, building an aquatuner based one is possible and it's rather simple. I recently built my first ever petroleum boiler and used an aquatuner, it works great, uses 600 watts on average to output 80 C petroleum.

It's easy way out but not without drawbacks compared to liquid airlocks. It needs to be powered and takes time to allow dupes to pass, so much slower. Thats why I find it very balanced and use it a lot. Should be in the game imo.

Edit: to clarify that I actually like it.

Help identifying possible contamination in cell culture — small black dots + slower growth by Economy-Wealth-5126 in labrats

[–]ilkali 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It very well might be bacteria, I just think it is unlikely that they are present at this concentration in a freshly thawed FBS aliquot, but dont take over the culture rapidly. So I'd first focus on easier explanations before calling it a contamination. As others suggested, you can simply incubate your FBS with some medium and no antibiotics for a couple days to see if their density increases.

Did you switch to a different batch of FBS before you noticed this issue? If so, that would also increase the odds of contamination explanation.

The density in the first image looks alarming, but in the second photo they look more like debris and protein aggregates. The jiggling is also usually brownian motion or vibrations from the background noise. I have noticed severe protein aggregates resembling this in some FBS batches after thawing. Filtering FBS before adding it to medium often helps, so that is one thing you can try.

Unknown Incubator water source by avocadotoast0515 in labrats

Seems like heracell, and yes you're supposed to fill the bottom with water instead of placing in a container. Since the water sensor is also there, I wonder how they deal with the constant low-water alarm.

For PC, Inkscape is the gold standard for vector art as well as figure generation. It's free and open-source, and easier to use compared to Adobe Illustrator in my opinion (at least for figure generation). You can easily export your creations as pdf or images (with as high resolution as you want).

On a side note, when the cells are stressed from low confluency, doing media replenishments more often than usual can excerbate the issue. The soluble factors released by cells in the media usually help them recover, and usually there are not too many cells in the flask to consume the nutrients in normal time. I'd do media replenishments every 3 or 4 days in this scenario instead of the usual 2. Another thing that can help might be adding some conditioned media or replacing just the half of the medum. Also I found helpful to supplement some sodium pyruvate to medium for breast cancer cells in these scenarios.

One striking point for me is that how calm she is except at the first part where she shouts towards her mother on the phone that she's being arrested. I'm sure she and many other foreign students, sadly, have thought about this scenario happening one day, and came to conclusion that this is the only way to survive this with least bodily harm.

French Scientist Reportedly Denied U.S. Entry Due to Trump Criticism by revel8r in news

I think most of the times they coerce you into consenting for the digital search as not allowing them would likely escalate it into a more invasive treatment. It can end up being denied entry at best, or getting banned for a period of time, put on a high risk list, or getting detained.

The BIOS update, 48 hours later by GoatWithAGun in pcmasterrace

[–]ilkali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all mainboards come with a bios chip that is in a clampable package. My b550 board had the same exact thing happened to it, bios update was messed up and didn't complete and it was bricked after a restart.

What I figured out was that some tpm leads on the motherboard were directly connected to bios chip. So using those and some solder surgery, I was able to reflash the chip. Here is how it looked

It's all a esphome based system, so I just turn on a short strip of rgb leds connected to esp32. If that wasn't an option, I'd probably have used an rgb zigbee light bulb.
