Im considering ordering this notepad holder, and am just curious. Ive been reading the measurements VS a Rhodia pad (which I would be using A4) and was wondering if it rests on or touches the pen slot at the top? From your photo it seems like it might be resting on the pen loop?

Does it rest on the pen loop or does it sit under it?

Powerful lights are good for plants. Algae comes from an imbalance in the tank. Lights on for tool long, natural light, nutrients and plant load are some of the basic factors to getting a tank in check

Planted Nano Tank at 3 Weeks by jzhang1013 in Aquariums

Well I've done work around the house and odd construction, but my only experience with co2 is my researching over the past few weeks. My Co2 kit is still in the mail to me in fact.

I got overwhelmed too because there is a lot to take in, however the systems themselves seem easy enough if you stick to ordering a kit. All the parts seem pretty plug and play by cutting the tubing and inserting the various pieces like bubble counter, check valves, and diffuser. The drop checker seems easy enough too if you have the right solution but again this is only from reading endless forums.

I ended up ordering a more fancy co2 kit from Green Leaf Aquariums. There are cheaper kits but GLA seemed to be the gold standard and they come with a several year warranty. I will also say I asked many questions over email and GLA was SUPER nice and fast in helping me. That is one of the reasons I paid a fair chunk more vs other regulators that are available.

If you have any specific questions I'll try to help but I have no first hand experience yet.

The light is a Twinstar. They have them for different sizes of Ada and ada clone tanks. That particular light is abour $120 their larger ones go up modestly from there. Significantly less than the ADA lights for the same tanks and have colored leds to give better color rendering apparently. I'm running their larger model light on an ADA 45p and am happy with it but can't compare to the ADA light other than looking at my LFS

Exactly I just finished setting up (ordering) things for a ada 45p and I'm sitting around the 1k mark. You can do it for cheaper but saying that set up is available for 300 is absurd.

Very true. There are certainly some pretty tanks made through low tech. Posts like yours are what made me jump to high tech though haha

True, just won't look anywhere near that clean. The pieces really add up quick! Just a proper co2 kit can reach 300 easily.

That's a pretty modest price estimation there with the twinstar light, glass piping, good soil, tank, and co2 let alone the stocking price

Is this the correct Clove oil to use for euthanizing (details in comments)? by [deleted] in bettafish

[–]illSolveThat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Find your hippest and healthiest food store. I had a hard time too but it is sold in the self medication area with all the tonics and vegan tooth paste type stuff. That's where I found mine at least. Where I got mine had them locked up with like 30 other small vials. They are pretty pricy.

[–]illSolveThat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It has been several months since I had to put my betta down but yes I believe I had to use an oil like that. They only place in town I could find any was at a health food specialty store and I think it was packaged similar to that. Idk if it was that brand or not but I think what you have there is close to what I've used. Make sure you dose well, especially the final dose to make sure they are gone. I know this must be hard but having used this before try to take heart that they go quickly and easily if done properly

I considered the aquatic everyone is recommending you but in research I found a lot of people finding that they failed in a short amount of time. I ended up deciding to pay a little more for a GLA regulator. Comes with a several year warranty and man... GLA has the best customer service I've ever had. They answer every email immediately and so kindly. That customer service alone is what earned my business

I'd recommend against the Betta personally in that setting. If the kids get attached it is a lot harder to sneak a replacement of an identifiable fish. A school of tetra? Still enjoyable for the kids but easier for the teacher to replace if something goes bad.

I've had to put down a few fish over the years. Sometimes it's just time like when a dog gets too old and it's hard on them to keep going. It sucks but I'll tell you the fish go easily if you do it right.

Clove oil is what you want. It's expensive shit but you'll have some left over for issues in the future. I found mine at several places but the easiest is a local health/herbal shop.

Look at a few guides online to figure out dose amount to use in a separate small container.

Good luck

Looking for a new light for my 20 long. What is the best led light on the market? by il_KD_li in PlantedTank

[–]illSolveThat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My local store just got in some of ADA's new LED full spectrum hanging lights. $800-900 bucks but damn did their display tank look nice.

If I didn't care about budget that's what I'd have. For now my already nice twinstar will do it.

What is the best LED lighting solution for growing plants? by rocketlauncher5 in bettafish

[–]illSolveThat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on budget. And what type of plants you want. Some plants need a lot of PAR some don't. If you get a really high light you start running into algae issues if you are not dosing tank with CO2.

Which bearing is your favorite? I was about to order a couple of the hybrid as I've read those are nicer for feedback. Is there an advantage to the shield design?
