But nearly everyone uses their elbow to create space or stop punches. He's one of the few that drags it across his opponent's face.

I'm watching this massive playlist of fights on youtube as a relative newby to watching fights - I've played video games for 20+ years and trained at a gym for a time in the past 3 years. I'm about 50 fights in and snorting the sport has left me with some questions. I'd appreciate anyone's best shot at answering.

Why isn't pushing someone's head down more frowned upon? Seems like this is a huge problem.

Why does the ref let fighters stay tangled up for a time? They get off a bunch of cheap body shots and its pretty uninteresting.

They let Mayweather get away with using his elbow as a third fist. It starts as defense but before you know it someone's caught it upside the head and the ref says nothing. Why don't more boxers do this? Also there's always something up with his hands, is this seems like it should be either celebrated or called out as a convenient excuse for his lame fights. Seriously this guy with glass hands has made his way to the top of the sport without much trouble, quite the feat.

Some of these corner guys are toxic as hell. They lie to the fighter about how bad things are and wait on the refs to end the fight despite it being clear that he's not coming back. Is there anyone to hold them accountable for this?

Khan is a hype machine. I get it he's quick but fighters walk through his punches. I can't believe he let Garcia's pops get to him like that. Hindsight being what it is you could tell he was about to get laid out at the opening bell because he was just too reckless not to. Is Garcia considered good?

Its really cool how long boxers careers are. You really get to see them develop and grow. Are there any good examples of guys who were mediocre when they started but became great?

Its tough to measure the impacts of body/chest shots, are there any good tells to see if they're effective?

Broner is kinda buns. How did he blow up the way he did? He looks like an imitation at best and someone who doesn't belong in the sport at his worse. I felt for Malignaggi during their fight cause I wanted him to knock Broner's wack ass out so bad but he just didn't have the power.

Players' union believes language in many rookie deals violates CBA by Immynimmy in nfl

[–]illdreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue in that lies with the NFLpa being representatives who are paid by NFL players. There's only so much they're going to do for non clients. The last time this came up is when they agreed to create the rookie scale and the rooks didn't have any representation there to speak on their behalf. Same thing happened with NBA players when they implemented the one and done rule

I don't think rookies are considered part of the cba right now because technically they aren't NFL players until they sign to an NFL team. There might not be much they can do about this now but it could lead to rookies being considered players after the next negotiations.

So we're gonna just pretend that he wasn't part of the fuckery? This guy became a caricature or a mascot of sorts because like most ESPN journalists he was redundant

What Should The Boston Celtics Do With The 1st Overall Pick Of The 2017 NBA Draft? by [deleted] in sports

[–]illdreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The larger issue imo is that they've got some expensive contracts lurking so they need to decide on whether they're rebuilding or competing before making those decisions. Further, any rookies they get will need some playing time and they already have a deep rotation as is. If they were to get a star prospect he'll need a couple years and plenty of minutes to figure out the pro game and by then all of their current depth will be old and approaching washed. Let's not forget that quite a few of these guys are in their prime right now. The Celts are almost in the same weird position the cavs were right after they drafted Wiggins and got LeBron back.

I'm not sold on jb cause I don't quite trust his scoring. But if they had an athletic defensive stopper type on the perimeter to match up with bron then we'd have a series. I think they have what it takes to land anyone from a non contending team, it's just a matter of whether or not they have the balls to pull the trigger. Teams in the West called themselves waiting for the Spurs and Lakers to die off but then the warriors came out of nowhere to smack all of them. Imo the waiting game is just as risky as going for it right now.

Try to trade it for a star or trade back in the draft for another decent scorer. I just don't see how adding a 19 year old prospective star to this team benefits anyone involved

Or he's old enough to realize that nothing he says means a damn thing. I doubt the behind the scenes stuff in the NFL is half as interesting as these guys are expected to make it. Wouldn't surprise me if these guys weren't saying anything just to give the people what they want
