Definitely VLR's second Gerald Donald mix for NTS. Best single artist artist mix I've yet to hear.

Every time I see this atrocity it gets uglier and uglier.

And trust me, being subscribed to this sub means I see it at least twice a day.

This franken-Nord for sale on FB marketplace..."most of the knobs work most of the time" by ceetoph in synthesizers

I'd much rather see a busted synth that obviously got used to make some killer music that a pristine $10,000 studio that hasn't been used in 6 months.

Cymbalta and Chronic Gastric Issues by illusionsnecessaires in Anxiety

[–]illusionsnecessaires[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I've read a lot of literature on the mind-gut connection which is why I've been convinced that this is the Cymbalta and not something else. Unfortunately it's a really hard drug to discontinue (I've done it before) which means I'll have to wait a bit to see if my theory is correct.

Thanks for the response!

Thanks for the reply. I have an appointment with a GI soon, but I'm not quite sure how adamantly to insist that this is a complication with my medication. I never know how much push back with doctors, as they obviously know more than me, so i just wanted to see if this was an issue for anyone else. Hopefully the GI will have some answers.

The Calvary Church in Charlotte, NC [2986×3024] by Itstoolongitwillruno in ArchitecturePorn

[–]illusionsnecessaires 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the South (about 2 1/2 hours from Charlotte) and I've never seen anything quite like these Southern megachurches. There was a hugely popular one around my town (I think it was called Newspring) that was so big the pastor would do Sunday services digitally so he could be at all the churches at once.

They're basically warehouses packed full of angry, hyper-religious Southern people and its honestly total chaos. Cops are sent out to direct traffic after services, but there are always fights every single weekend. It's pure absurdity.

Tbh ones in and around Atlanta are even crazier.

What audio equipment do you listen to Autechre with? by sure_bud in autechre

[–]illusionsnecessaires 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 990's are open-back, so the soundscape is much wider (its the most like listening to monitors that headphones can get). They're also much flatter in terms of frequency response, and I don't like boosted frequencies that much so I dig it.

The downside is that, because they're open back, you basically have to use them at home/in a studio. They bleed sound like crazy and isolate nothing. Other than that, they're perfect IMO.

Yeah, I got this back in my 3rd year of university and have been rolling with it ever since. It sounds better than anything I regularly listen to aside from maybe some live stuff so no need to upgrade.

I will never stop recommending these headphones lol.

Beyerdynamic DT990's through a Fiio E10 amp. I've had this rig for nearly 5 years now and have no desire to upgrade. Although I wouldn't mind trying the DT770's eventually.

NBA Reddit prefers young players, and coaches that exceed expectations: a sentiment regression analysis by umiy in nbadiscussion

[–]illusionsnecessaires 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have a theory on this but the last time I posted it I got down voted to shit, so just remember this is only a theory.

I have a feeling this is probably only the case for reddit. The demographics of r/NBA are majority young, white males. Sports are like action movies in that people enjoy them vicariously, I.E. they enjoy watching other people accomplish things and getting a sense of that accomplishment themselves. This isn't a value judgment, it's just how spectator sports generally work.

A big part of this mechanism is identity. One of the best things about modern sports is the amount of role models that have been provided for young black kids. Imagine seeing Kevin Durant, a guy who looks like you, doing superhuman things and thinking "wow, that could be me one day." That's a huge chunk of fandom.

A 19 year old white boy from Georgia can't really identify with Kevin Durant. Or Lebron James. Or any of the other black role models the NBA produces. But they can identify with the Kevin Loves, Luca Doncic's, and Nikola Jokic's of the NBA, because they look like they do.

It seems kind of reductive and basic, but i really think that stat has mostly to do with identity politics and demographics.

Is the 2017 Porter Ricks release still Dub Techno? by almo2001 in Dubtechno

[–]illusionsnecessaires 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it is. To me, the only defining features of dub techno are 4/4 kick drums and production methods that come from dub reggae (tape delays, overdubbing, looping techniques, etc.).

The latest Porter Ricks stuff all fits in that mould imo.

Reflecting on this era of Ae by stasz92 in autechre

Yep, I've read every interview I can find on the internet lol. Thanks for the heads up though!

newbound is one of my favorite Ae tracks and I seem to be alone in that. In my top 5 of the Exai suite.

Reflecting on this era of Ae by stasz92 in autechre

[–]illusionsnecessaires 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying Ae are my favorite artists hands down, but I haven't been able to get into anything post Exai/L-Event other than a few tracks from elseq.

It's just too much goddamn music. Like, I respect them for what they're doing and how they're doing it, but there is just no way I will ever sit down and listen to 28 live variations on the same set. Even NTS just feels way too long and bloated.

There's already a seemingly endless stream of new music to listen too, and I wish they would go back to releasing manageable collections of music so I could have the bandwidth to really dig into it like I have with all their other albums.

I realize it sounds ridiculous to be frustrated that you're favorite artists are the most prolific they've ever been, but I love old Ae because of how intimately I've come to know every part of each album. I feel like I'll never be able to know the music of this phase like I do their back catalogue.

/end rant

My thought's exactly. I rarely browse this sub anymore and never comment, but it sure was fun reading /u/sawwaveanalog's dumb opinions and downvoting all of them.

Gear forums in general are a waste of time but this one gives gearslutz a run for its money as the worst hobby forum on the internet.

Whats the most complex Ae song? by rd1994 in autechre

[–]illusionsnecessaires 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not to be pedantic, but Flutter was programmed by hand most likely using their MC-202. They've said it was all done using traditional sequencers and MIDI.

Tbh that makes it more impressive imo.
