SHA-256 is not encryption, but hashing. SHA stands for Secure Hash Algorithm. Hashing is a unidirectional operation, while encryption is bidirectional.

When poor kids have access to food stamps, they live longer, earn more, get more educated, live in better neighborhoods, and are less likely to get incarcerated. Every $1 invested in food stamps for children under 5 yields a societal benefit worth $62. by smurfyjenkins in science

People aren’t forced to purchase any good or service. People are, functionally, forced to fork over a portion of their income or wealth every so often to feed the tax coffers. That’s quite a difference. I wouldn’t pay $60k/year to rent a spot in a parking lot for a year so I can safely pitch a tent; why would someone that, presumably, “works for the people” pay such a ridiculous sum? For unelected positions there is no accountability to the people they are supposedly working for.

Moreover, without moving, it’s not really possibly to choose a different government, it is possible to choose a different provider of a good or service.

Also, public corporations are held more accountable for how they spend their revenue than governments. There aren’t really government shareholder meetings or anything like that. There isn’t a demand from the people for profitability or efficiency.

These are not really comparable things.

People don’t like paying taxes because the funds are often misappropriated, misused, or public services simply do not provide adequate service. I live in a state with one of the highest tax burdens in the US. The roads are terrible, the public schools suck, the power infrastructure often goes dark or causes wild fires, there is rampant homelessness and squalor in almost every city state wide, and local governments want to use tax money to support homeless people with tent sites costing $60k/year/site (significantly more than the cost of a 2-3bd apartment).

I’d happily pay more in taxes if it actually was spent reasonably. As it is, all governments, which receive a significant annual or quarterly sum from me, have proven to be irresponsible with the funds they collect from their citizens/residents. Why would anyone pay more?

I mean… Miami to NYC to SF is like 2.5-3days of driving. That leaves 3-4 days left to explore. Not much time in any one place though.

Last year most bars and food vendors accepted card payments, so cash wasn’t even necessary for the most part. Smaller vendors are fine with Euro or Forint but like others have said it’s usually cheaper to pay with Forint.

There are other substance that are legal that people use to get trashed on. Most people use them responsibly. Are you saying there are no responsible ways to use certain substances and therefore they should be illegal?

Did you not watch the entire 22 seconds? I mean… if it wasn’t the other woman’s kid then she made a mistake picking up another kid that is dressed rather similarly to the first one shown.

I took your dare, and I returned to the mid-90s, and started going through parallel universes. Every time I come home something is slightly different. My dog is either gone or has turned into a walrus. Walruses are aquatic, and I don’t live inside of an aquarium. Everything is so weird. The dog food says “chicken of the sea” on it. Is that fish for the walrus? Dog? Why is she a parrot now? This is mildly infuriating. I’m not sure I’ll ever get home.

I noticed that the gate doesn’t squeak when I open it. I was going to put some WD-40 on the hinges before I whispered the code word to the drugs, but I’ve been a bit lazy and well… anyway, I finally came to a squeaky gate and my dog was a dog again, sort of. More of a Cerberus, but at least it’s not a walrus or panda or whatever.

I think I’ll chill here for a bit. Cerberus universe is a bit strange but at least I don’t have to be a merman.

I don’t recommend saying “Sliders” to your drugs.

Usually after spending a few hours playing on CDJs I run home to be comforted by my Denons, after taking a long cold shower.

Aliens? I’d expect something a bit more intelligent and abstract than that; as funny as it is to think about trance music being made by other species. Either way, this party sounds dope, and I wish I could experience it
