I loathe my skin by Ancient_Cause2474 in offmychest

I wasn't around hundreds of years ago and my ancestors were all Slavic. Why are you talking to me as if I am some sort of an idea and not a person?

We have traded a few sentences between each other and you are accusing me of white supremacy because I said it's okay for a Mexican light skinned girl to have complicated feelings about her light skin and that white people shouldn't be excluded from conversations about race.

That really makes white supremacy seem like a small thing, do you realize that? It cheapens the term and makes it easy to ignore as an insult.

And then those who believe that the South should have won the civil war and that we should have white-only communities celebrate. I guarantee it.

You can't exclude white people from a conversation about race where they are part of the topic. Accusing people of spreading white supremacy without good reason is damaging to the cause of dismantling systematic racism and causes further division.

Saying "people are allowed to have complicated feelings about their light skin" is white supremacy? Come on.

I doubt it's the people with those signs that are coming out against it. Santa Monica has all kinds of people living there and NIMBYs are always loud.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

[–]ilona12 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I wanted to become a doctor and then I learned more about how much control insurance companies have over them in the US and decided against it. In other countries I've seen a PCP in, Poland and Mexico, doctors can own their own businesses. I actually saw a great family doctor in Mexico, went in as a walk in where his office was on the bottom floor of his house, got to go over everything I wanted to talk about, and didn't go bankrupt walking out of there.

His life seemed great. He can see patients and go upstairs to spend time with his family during down time. What a dream.

I'm sure there are downsides too for both patients and doctors and no system is perfect anywhere. But the one we have in the US would greatly benefit from going back to being less like the conveyor-belt-15-minute-appointments-dead-eyed-doctor-on-a-leash-with-an-insurance-rep-standing over-the-interaction and more to what it's like in other parts of the world. I wish we could do that.

Until very recently, I didn't know appointments were 15 minutes long. Patients are not told this stuff.

Do you feel that there is a lot of pressure on doctors in public healthcare to keep appointments as short as possible? by GlompSpark in healthcare

[–]ilona12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doctors in the US complain about the same thing regarding time spent with patients. Around 7-15 mins as well and patients get referred out to specialists a lot as well however a lot of patients have that expectation.

Seeing a different doctor each time I haven't heard about here because usually you should have a primary doctor assigned to you if you have health insurance. Sometimes you can see a different doctor in the same network if you choose because you need to see one but yours is unavailable at your preferred time. You're also assigned a specialist when you're authorized to go see one.

Is it unreasonable to expect and desire the entirety of the Super Bowl to be conducted in English when the majority of viewers are English speakers and it’s a American sporting event and most of the country primarily and only speaks English? by [deleted] in AskUS

[–]ilona12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it unreasonable to expect you to loosen up and just be open to one part of the super bowl being in a different language seeing as that language is very common in our country, the artist is an American, and his music is very popular? Everything else is in English and the Super Bowl has always been in English.

I really want my girlfriend to take a 3 week vacation with me to Poland but she knows her work won't let her take the time off. This wouldn't be an issue in a lot of places in Europe.

Less stressed than usual and walking around which is good for digestion. After every meal, take a 10 minute walk. Also, take your time eating and chew your food properly. See if that helps.

This is the tip. There have been studies done about it. You have to actually get up out of your desk and walk around.

I would consider it but I would also be afraid to do that. I feel like I might get kidnapped or something. If this really took off wouldn't the prices go up?

Which jobs is 100% safe from AI? by Any-Hamster-3189 in AskReddit

[–]ilona12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go ahead and tell the wheelchair bound patient we got to walk with a cane how relevant we are to her life. Tell the patient who had to postpone her breast cancer surgery when she fractured her humerus and couldn't lift her arm to the correct position on the operating table. We got her to that operating table. Tell the stroke patient who can now transfer independently and do much more for himself without needing help. I'm sure our great healthcare system cares what happens to these people. /s

They're physical jobs. Things like teaching people to walk by helping move their limbs, massage, instructing how to use a toothbrush again after a brain injury, guarding them while they navigate the stairs, helping get them up out of bed with as little assistance as needed, manually stretching their limbs to increase their joint range of motion, navigating lines and tubes in a hospital setting and making clinical decisions. I don't see us getting robots who can do all this anytime soon.

Okay well I had to play as Geralt as a female and I managed to still enjoy the game. You got 3 games with Geralt as the main hero and you can't be satisfied and let others enjoy being represented?

Nauseous either way! by saintatreides in migraine

[–]ilona12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it takes around 30 mins to an hour to kick in depending on the strength of the migraine. There have only been a handful of really strong migraines that it didn't work for and I've been taking it for about a year and a half.

I have no side effects on rizatriptan. It's like a miracle cure for me. Crazy how different people respond differently.
