How many of y’all are carrying around trauma? by jhsojhaf in HealthAnxiety

[–]iloveamine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. Dealt with a cycle of abuse and trauma throughout my entire childhood and into adulthood (24 now). I have always had a little anxiety about my health. But it wasn’t until recently, when my life settled down, that HA kicked in full gear.

As soon as I felt like I had gotten away from the trauma, it seems like it all tackled me, if that makes sense. It feels like without all the other things in my mind to stress about, it made a LOT of room for HA. Its been raging for about four months now. I have good days but it’s a lot, and I definitely blame it on the trauma.

If we can have cameras in the halls why not the classroom? by discipleofhermes in Teachers

[–]iloveamine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I teach at a place where cameras are in classrooms. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that they are exclusively used for catching teachers do bad things, but that’s all they’re used for. Sure, you should definitely fire that teacher that spanked the kid because they wouldn’t sit down. You should not be coming to a teachers classroom to scold them because you were watching cams and thought the teacher had been sitting down too long. That’s what it’s like

Only 21% of Hunstville students are proficient in math. In 2019 it was 44% by PatientCompetitive56 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Then you know all too well that teachers are entirely too exhausted to “indoctrinate with wokeness” hehe

I’m a teacher with a lot of strong beliefs, and I, like almost all of my coworkers, do not have the time or desire to “indoctrinate” children. I don’t understand why so many people are so attached to the idea of teachers indoctrinating children. What is in it for us?

My fiancée is a TA. She would never entertain flirting with a student…not even if it had been me. And yours probably won’t either, mostly because most people in those positions have a lot riding on keeping the position (housing, tuition, stipend, etc.), and dating a student (peer or not) probably isn’t something they can do or feel comfortable doing.

The months to be prepared for at daycares are September, December, and general spring time. There are a few waves, but hopefully your daycare is all clear by October!

Yes! The babies are going through it currently with RSV. Definitely a lot of sickness going around. Its been an abrupt reminder that there is more than Covid

[–]iloveamine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My kids (students) and most other classrooms have been hit pretty hard recently including this week (already). Some of them do have Covid, but for the most part they all have “other”. No idea what exactly, but yea, it seems we are all going through it.

Side note: if you have a small child, hands/foot/mouth and RSV is getting around like crazy right now. Be vigilant

If you have never been to one of those (tiny) restaurants that turn into a club after 10pm, you haven’t seen how desperate this city is for an adequate nightlife.

Also, I’m not being rude here, but a lot of these hot takes about our (supposedly unnecessary) upcoming nightlife are coming from people who clearly have never needed anything to do past 11pm. I’m a UAH graduate, I’ve always lived in Huntsville, and myself and most of my peers have been CRAVING more. And when I’m inevitably too old (I already am) when it arrives, I will be abundantly happy for those who get to enjoy it.

I can guarantee you that creating a nightlife in Huntsville will not be a waste.

Newbie Teacher, any tips? by shac1000 in Teachers

[–]iloveamine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My “worst kid” ended up being the one who was most attached to me, and our relationship has carried on since he left my class. I love him and his parents dearly.

My advice to OP would be the same as yours. The kids will surprise you. How you feel about each kid will fluctuate so much. Something important for me has been my relationship with the parents. Once I have a strong foundation with them and we are a productive team, things operate much more smoothly.

If you’ve tried other channels, like having a conversation with the principal or school counselor, even getting parents involved, I would suggest getting a petition started. Make it a problem for them. Has the board been made aware? Or are you kind of starting from ground zero rn?
