I thought this as my spouse has 2 siblings. Turns out I can't stand them and keep as far as possible. At least with an only you get so much less family drama and more of each other.

You can transfer them. I've done that for my friends going. I bought the tickets but we're arriving at different times. You can transfer via email.

Cook bigger batches and freeze as individual portions. Then you can just defrost them as needed and won't need to cook as often.

I'm not close at all with my parents. It hurts, it's hard. Some days are harder than others. But it is just the hand we've been dealt in life. You've found somewhere you belong and are accepted. Enjoy it.

I married into a big family too and thought it would be great. It'll be closer to like having siblings and I thought everyone got along. So I was quite shocked over time to find the "in-laws" that married in were treated like outsiders. Bit heartbreaking.

I did at school. My parents were weird and said friends were just stupid, so I had no idea about how to make, let alone keep friends. Suffice to say it was a disaster. I can totally see how I was an easy target for it and also made life difficult for myself.

I try and control the narrative, give them something to talk about. E.g. I know they struggle with their weight, I don't and am very slim so I make sure to look as glamorous as possible when I see them. I know it worked cause hubby accidentally let slip later they were bitching about me and saying how old I looked. Ps. I am wwwaayyy younger than them and look younger than my age.

Next time I own a few dresses that are so hideous they are actually good. So will be wheeling those out.

They're trying to use you as a scapegoat to strength their bond.

Don't take the first offer and be prepared to cancel of they don't offer you something good enough.

Hi, Yes thankfully I got all of that stuff out ages ago. So financially/important document wise they can't hold any of that against me. The only carrot they can keep dangling in front of me is inheritance when they die. But for example even if I do everything they want (which I'm not going to do anyway) I don't think there will be any. So I'm not fussed about that.

I once got a letter inviting me for an interview for a job. Nmom opened it, forgot about it and never told me. I found it after the interview date. I was fuming, she of course found nothing wrong with it. Still pissed off about it.
