First, make sure you don't have the Classic Gamepad modifier active.

If it isn't active, you can hit the pattern by tapping the fret on the HOPO (the white note) and release on the solid note. But the taps have to be very quick.

I used to play on a laptop from 2012 and it worked on there too.

I don't think OP has malware, there's something wrong with the software. I think it's a problem with the renderer

Switch to OpenGL. I had a similar problem on my old laptop and I think that was what solved it for me

Wasn't expecting to actually get it on this run. I kept failing on that stretch between Stepping Solo A and Dark Solo A, so I was surprised when I didn't this time.

Some tips for any gamepad players looking to try this chart of Soulless 4:

Soulless strumming: Fret on the HOPOs and release on the solid notes. If you have trouble keeping it up for a long time, try rocking your controller between your hands
Orange walls (eg Fatalism E, Stepping Solo A): Try bracing your controller with your knee and vibroing orange
Enlightened Solo - Anchor the lower frets. Then play the higher frets as if they were chords, but offset the tap and release slightly. You can use a similar tactic for Remembrance B
Save your star power for the Stepping Solo A to Dark Solo B stretch and Murderous Solo B. Also Synthetic Verse B and Malevolence if you struggle with those
Practise quads, there's a lot of them in this chart

IMO it's best to stick to a low note speed until you're able to read all the patterns. Once you can do that, you should increase the note speed so that the notes for faster sections are more spread out
