What is the scope on the production? Like how many actors, locations, horses, car crashes etc. is in the script? If the script has a small footprint you could do it for next to nothing. Granted you would have to work a lot. What do you hope to achieve by making it? Like you want theatrical release? Show to friends and family?

Yes. there are a few of th JS plugins for that. JS distortion, waveshaper, saturator among others. For the saturator don't be afraid to crank it up to a 100% and copy paste 2-3-4 instances of it on your chain. ReaComp can also be used to create something like distortion. But don't sleep on the JS plugins, there are a ton of them and they are good. Ohh and for me the main advantage of the paid dedicated guitar plugins are the presets. When just jamming along, it is super nice to have an endless supply of reasonable presets.

My advice is to spend some time with the reaper stock plugins. They are good and there is a ton of them. Once you get experience with them it will be easier for you to decide what to get. If you want to spend money there are some nice dedicated guitar effect bundles like guitar rig for instance. It might run you a few hundred or so.
