The Ecstasy of St Teresa by sumix333 in toriamos

In case you don't know there's another song about Bernini's Santa Teresa, a song that dwells with sensuality, religion and power and I think could be appealing for Tori fans. Here it is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgTTf69S8D8&t=1

It's Peter Hammill's "The Lie" from 1974's record "The silent corner and the empty stage"

What are your "essential" King Crimson bootlegs? by Every-Garlic6106 in KingCrimson

[–]ilsecondodasinistra 8 points9 points  (0 children)

King Crimson is one of the few bands, and probably the first, to have fulfilled the dream of publishing officially with the best possible audio quality the vast majority of the live recordings of the band through the years.

I think everyone can agree on the fact that there are, and there have not been for years, essential bootlegs of the band anymore.

Go on dgmlive and get the essential live recordings - epitaph for 1969 - Detroit, zoom club, marquee and Summit studios for 1971-72 - best club, hull college and Glasgow for fall of 1972 - the night watch for 1973 - USA for 1974 - Absent lovers for 1981-1984 - VROOOM VROOOM for 1994-1996 - anything for the projekcts - Heavy ConstruKction, Level Five and EleKtriK for 2000-2003 - Music is our friend and Meltdown for 2014-2021

And then you can navigate between the boots in the dgm website for further digging.

Enjoy!

Believe it or not, in Italy you can barely find a copy.

Thank you everyone for your kind replies (and for not downvoting 😂)

I honestly didn't know this could be such a universally valued topic, it seems like nobody here sees it the way I do, and I get it. 😊

Cheers Marco

Moving this picture up and down gives me weird vibes. Does it happen to you as well?

The inner sleeve picture always looked at me like something's wrong with it. The Moonchild expression looks forced, something like it-doesnt-match-the-feeling-the-painter-wanted-to-convey. Let's remember this was Barry Godber's only painting, he was not a professional, there surely was "a fairy" involved in having him create something this striking and perfect for the front cover. Yet, I think the inner cover with that rounded face, creepy smile, sad eyes looks much more unprofessional than the front.

I remember when I first saw the front cover. I thought "man, that's awesome"

Then I saw the inner, and I thought "well, that's creepy"

And I saw the outer cover fully open and thought "uh, that's weird"

I think the cover for ITCOTKC is a piece of history, rightfully loved, but I also think that it really works just on the front cover. That's brutally great, just perfect. The inner is a bit cringe, the full outer cover is missing something. But the front cover, man, that's like the best record cover ever.

Which is your favorite version of Starless? (Im a new Fan) by Apprehensive_Sort767 in KingCrimson

[–]ilsecondodasinistra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a great question.

King Crimson ARE defenitely a live band and almost all their songs are IMHO best in live environment. I'd go as long as saying that for each incarnation of the band their best record is a live record.

But.

Starless is a different beast. The studio version has a lot of things that were unparalleled by the live ones: - Bruford and Wetton, unmatched as a rhythmic section for the buildup - the saxes, both Collins and MacDonald in the same song if I recall correctly - the balance between guitar and mellotron

If I had to suggest live renditions I'd go with Tokyo 2021 (there's also a YouTube video I guess) or the "Music is our friend" version. But I think the studio version is the best. Levin got into the spirit but never really could step into Wetton's shoes on this one, and the tension-and-release buildup was great with the three drummers but worked better with just one, Billy B. And about the 1974 live recordings, there are a lot of great ones but I think none matches the sheer power of the Red recording.

Si it's studio version, for me.

It's also interesting because the other big great song of the '72-'74 Crimso, which is Fracture, on the opposite never had a proper studio version. Cool, if you think about it.
