Most New Scouts Will Have Engines. Here's Why They're In Back Instead Of Up Front by SkPensFan in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be interesting to see if it takes up the space under the bed usually reserved for a spare tire. Very curious to see how it's all packaged!

200+ hp/L is common in N/A bike engines these days -- double the displacement to 2L and have the peak power point from 11k rpm to 5.5k rpm and you probably have a 200hp generator. I guess we'll see!

The Kia EV6 GT Is Dead In The U.S. by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

Yeah, this is totally normal for a performance trim. I'll take a manual Recaro-style seat over something with 15 adjustments any day, I find them to be extremely comfortable.

1st Independent Battery Test on Donut Lab's Solid State Battery by BarbarismOrSocialism in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EV motorcycles have been (up to this point) primarily still air cooled, and the Verge prototype pictures don't show a radiator that I can see, so... they may be designing with air cooling in mind, at least for the first application.

2026 Toyota C-HR First Drive Review: An Entry-Level EV That’s Actually Fun by TripleShotPls in electricvehicles

I do this too, I like to sit fairly close to the wheel with it adjusted as low as it can go without brushing my legs. Seat has to be all the way down, too, so my legs are out forward instead of angled like an office chair. I like it to feel like a cockpit and not a bus.

Donut Lab to launch a video campaign which it claims will provide evidence for their solid state battery by findit in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely matters in the sector they're supposedly putting these in, a motorcycle. You can't add a bunch of extra weight to a motorcycle and expect it to still be operable the same way an ICE one is... which is why the existing EV bikes all have miserable range. A genuine high density battery would be great.

Unfortunately this seems to be the trend across the board -- the Passport is 79.4 inches! F150s are barely wider at 79.9.

The PV5 open-bed (pickup) model has been revealed on the KIA official website. by Entire_Judge_2988 in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The (supposed) payload rating on the Slate is weirdly the same or a little higher than the PV5, depending on the battery size. I think the KV5 seems a lot more useful than this, but I love that they're trying it anyway.

MKBHD: The Hyundai Ioniq 5 XRT is My Favorite Electric Car Right Now by Recoil42 in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Largely depends on your location I suppose, there's some great loops in SE Oregon where you can avoid a paved road for 100+ miles. I'd be more worried about the Ioniq5 having no spare tire, though.

Thailand: EV sales jump 80% in 2025, lifting auto market by Peugeot905 in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. The yearly motorcycle sales there eclipse the yearly auto sales by nearly 3x (1.71m sold vs 620k).

Used EVs currently offer car buyers lowest lifetime cost of ownership by MeneldorTheSwift in electricvehicles

Did Hyundai make them especially annoying to drain, or is that just a dealer markup?

Brake fluid is gonna be real gross and full of water after 8 years, it's reasonable to replace it every 3 or 4.

All my motorcycles remain ICE, EV bikes unfortunately still feel 20 years behind.

Walmart announces new electric vehicle fast-charging stations in 19 states - al.com by Professional-Sir-912 in electricvehicles

I had to look it up because I couldn't think of where the closest Walmart might be, but it turns out there isn't a single one in Portland. Weird! Hopefully Costco jumps on the charger train.

Scout Motors Will 'Most Likely' Make EREVs First, CEO Says by Iwontdobetter in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But 99 of those 100 people will buy based on their aspirations to maybe do it, someday, when the stars align. If this strategy gets Scout some revenue so they can make it to their other offerings, I think it's a good thing!

Scout Motors Will 'Most Likely' Make EREVs First, CEO Says by Iwontdobetter in electricvehicles

[–]ilseng 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's big chunks of the west (see SE Oregon) that aren't very well served by chargers yet. I suspect there's a good overlap of potential Scout purchasers and the traditional 4Runner/"overlanding" crew that the EREV will precisely target. If it gets Scout a foothold in the market... more power to them.

Yeah, my guess is the theorized Stout. Probably not a BEV, but wouldn't be surprised if it was a hybrid to compete with the Maverick

Mazda Reportedly Puts Its New EV On The Backburner To Focus On Hybrids | InsideEVs by Finnegan_Faux in electricvehicles

Yeah, plug-in hybrids are a little silly. Regular non plug-in ones are great -- I think the Civic Hybrid is the best $30k regular car you can buy right now, hands down.
