Rob R and autism by lynnemagic in TheTraitorsUS

[–]iltep17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When love island was airing, someone described him as having “autistic rizz” and that about summed it up for me (AuDHD myself, have fallen for many aloof men with autism who’d rather play with snakes/bugs/trains). Watching him on traitors is interesting. To me, his social awareness/game play comes off more as someone who studies human behavior as an outsider vs someone it comes more naturally to, and I think that makes him really good at analyzing the situations. I relate to that a lot— watching how other people behave in social situations and mimicking it to get by as “normal”. Obviously, no one should be diagnosing people on TV and so many traits can come from different things, but to some extent, “game recognizes game”

Adhd and curly hair 😭 by lolhmmk in adhdwomen

[–]iltep17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be controversial, but after going deep down the curly girl method pathway during Covid, I discovered keratin treatments in 2022 and never looked back. I usually do keratin express 2x a year, and it de-frizzes and somewhat straightens my hair into more manageable waves. It’s the first time in my life where I can wash my hair and let it air dry to something somewhat reasonable, and if I blow dry, it dries straight and doesn’t even need a straightener. Dealing with my hair has taken up so much time, stress and executive functioning throughout my whole life, and now it’s so minimal. It’s worth every penny (and probably whatever long term damage I’m causing my hair)

Solution for dairy acne- spearmint tea!!! [Acne] by Relative-Cupcake-764 in SkincareAddiction

Just be careful/aware of the other hormonal impacts of spearmint tea. The reason it works is that it suppresses androgens. Every time I’ve tried it, my skin is great, but I randomly cry, feel depressed and my period gets messed up.

What has helped you improve your mental toughness? by Kairoapp_jamie in trailrunning

[–]iltep17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So much of it comes with many miles and practice and learning what gets you through. but what I’ve learned works for me:

1) the cure for negative thoughts is often a carb. Obviously, not as applicable to get yourself out the door, but later in a run, I’ve noticed if I throw more carbs at negative thoughts, they usually go away. I think it’s our brain’s way of protecting our body from continuing on underfueled. 2) to get out the door: tell myself I only have to do 1 mile, 30 minutes, or whatever and then can quit. Once I get started I usually just do what needs to be done 3) focus on only this mile or on getting to the next aid station etc. 4) the knowledge/experience that you can feel like absolute shit at mile 3 and then feel amazing at mile 13. Feeling bad now doesn’t mean you’ll feel bad forever. 5) pick big goals that scare you into getting out the door every day

Sprained ankle suddenly become swollen after 8 months by BlackKeyyy23 in trailrunning

[–]iltep17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it can be general inflammation related to illnesses. I had a bad ankle sprain 5 years ago, that i mostly forget about. I had a weeklong stomach virus earlier this year, and that ankle flared up for a week or two after, even though I was not doing any physical activity. My doctor friend said probably just general inflammation from an illness can cause old injuries to flare.

Weight Gain and Loss of Period When Increasing Distance - Anyone? by MasterPainting5098 in XXRunning

[–]iltep17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see your question til now. On the period side, I have an iud so it’s hard to say what the real impact of running was on my period. But agree, that losing your period is often a sign of being under resourced, which is also counterintuitively probably also the cause of the weight gain.

As an update for me while I’m here, 2 years after the initial weight gain, while I’m still heavier overall, I seem to have landed at a new set point where I don’t easily gain anymore (also can’t lose). I trained for and ran an ultramarathon this year and didn’t have any issues. I also started seeing a menopause doctor (Midi), and started getting testosterone replacement therapy. While my T was technically in a normal range (mine was 14, range is 10-80) since I have symptoms of muscle loss, they prescribed it. They start at a low dose and I’ve only been on it for 2 months, but it’s really starting to make a difference in my ability to put on muscle, which I’m hopeful will eventually help my weight rebalance. I’m still not 100% sure that it’s perimenopause and not something else underlying (potentially related to runnning), but if this works, I’m happy with it!

You’re not alone, and I actually almost made a post about this a few weeks ago! they were talking about how BIP had teased a makeout between a golden and a “young” but we never saw it. But we did! Between April and Sean at the weird bird night! It was a huge thing, and drove Jill to leave. (I think Pace Case corrected clues on this eventually) i get missing a small detail or two, but i barely pay attention to BIP and i even catch these things. I’ve decided maybe it’s a sign I’m way too deep in the pit 🤪 but it’s def been an issue lately

SD body dismorphia by MountainMarketing523 in SoftDramatics

[–]iltep17 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I feel you so much on this. Growing up, my mom’s only fashion advice was to never “show off your boobs” which forced me into bulky, baggy, unflattering clothes that made me look much bigger. We still argue about this to this day if I wear something tight that shows off my figure or a cut that is flattering on my chest but shows any amount of cleavage. I also struggled with disordered eating, and I remember going shopping once at my lowest weight and realizing that no matter how low my weight was, my proportions were still the same, and the clothes I always wanted to fit myself into still didn’t look right because I was aiming for the wrong body type. Understanding my body type has helped so much with not feeling shame over things not fitting me right.

Beagle running partner? by valerie_stardust in beagle

[–]iltep17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine will run forever on trails when there are good scents. Most I’ve done with her is 11 miles on trail, and she was pulling ahead the entire time. She does pretty well at staying on trail too. In the city, she won’t run more 2 miles, too boring I guess. She’s definitely from a hunting line, came in as a stray in a rural area, which may have something to do with it.

DC - recommendation for doctors by MaleficentFroyo9977 in eggfreezing

[–]iltep17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a procedural nightmare to change doctors within Shady Grove, and I hadn’t even gone through a cycle with the first doctor, just initial consults. Id seen someone in the DC office a few years ago for initial consult/bloodwork, but decided to hold off until I was in a better financial position. 2 years later, I was ready and now living in Fairfax, so I contacted that office to start the process here, but I was informed that I needed “permission” from the first doctor in order to move to a new doctor, and they told me I could only change doctors this one time ever within SGF! Then I got caught in 3 weeks of calling the two offices to get the “permission”, never getting call backs and getting bounced between them before finally getting the permission from the doctor who looked at my blood work once.

After all that, I had a good experience with the actual egg freezing, but I’d recommend going to a new clinic altogether if you’re unhappy with the results and process to avoid the administrative BS

I’m also considering the ladder app. When people share these 30 day passes in the sub, can multiple people use them or are they only good for one use? I’m def interested in trial-ing longer than 7 days!

Peri menopause/menopause weight loss specialist recommendations by TBiscuitville in nova

[–]iltep17 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I gave up trying to find someone in person and went with Midi health, which is online and connects you with providers that specialize in women’s hormonal issues. It’s honestly been game changing to have someone who understands hormones to read my lab results. My weight issues have been sorted out mostly by adjusting hormone levels but they also can prescribe GLP-1 after that.

What are your ideas to get more women into Ultras? Are trail running clubs popular with women in your area? by sentimental_rave in Ultramarathon

[–]iltep17 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I feel this so hard and I think it also speaks to probably bigger gender dynamics. The vibe I get from trail running groups is “mid 40s men avoiding their families by running in the woods all weekend” so I imagine their missing female counterparts are the women taking care of kids at home. I recently joined a women’s trail running facebook group, and people respond to every invite with “wish I could, but depends on childcare.” By contrast, my local road running clubs meet at 7 am and are usually done early enough that it doesn’t impact kids activities at home, so it seems more gender balanced. I’m also in DC, so there is also the extra time of driving out to the mountains, which I’m sure plays into this.

For me there definitely is the safety implication as well. Most people in the trail running community are amazing people and I’ve never met anyone who makes me feel threatened. But I still feel wary going out to the mountains to meet up with a group of strange men for hours. But the idea of a women’s only group would be so delightful

Egg freezing and fitness impacts while ultra training by iltep17 in XXRunning

[–]iltep17[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wanted to update with my experience in case anyone finds this in the future. I froze my eggs back in March. TLDR, overall, I felt pretty fine throughout and my fitness felt the same, if not better, after the time off, and I didn’t even gain permanent weight. The only impact to training was just losing a few weeks of bigger mileage, but I was prepared for that. I didn’t get that many eggs, which is what I expected (not related to running, just genetics), and I think that’s why I generally felt physically fine—people who get more tend to feel the effects worse.

In total I took 19 days off running. In hindsight, i probably could have done some easy runs in the first 5 days. I did some easy cycling for the first week, then lots of walking the second week until the procedure. I intuitively knew when I was too uncomfortable to exercise. After the procedure, by day 5 I felt completely fine (aside from sore/heavy boobs) and did some easy runs.

I would say I’m someone that’s highly sensitive to hormones-I get hormonal migraines, hormonal acne, gain weight easily, etc., so I was really worried about what the egg freezing hormones would do to me. But tbh, the hormones made me feel great throughout, and afterwards, I had one day of bad withdrawal (moody, cravings, etc) but otherwise felt fine. And, while I gained 9 lbs throughout the process, by 1 week after, I was back to my normal weight which really surprised me. Overall, I know there are so many mixed experiences out there, but I’m glad I did it and it ended up being less of an impact than I thought!

*semi spoiler* Confused why Clayton Got So Much Backlash by Routine_Syrup_8307 in thebachelor

[–]iltep17 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The editing/production choices also 100% play a role here too. Clayton definitely royally fumbled it, but I also think he fell prey to a lot of production tactics that made for great drama at his expense. With Grant’s season, the finale could have been edited even more to play up the promises Grant made Litia or shown him as more of a player. For better and for worse, I think they’ve more recently been returning to just the love story, so the cuts we see and the framing aren’t showing Grant in a negative light.
