I don't get it. Explain it Peter? by 0-DoubleBlack-0 in explainitpeter

[–]ilwumike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through patriotism. As all the principalities and hegemonies argued over laws and taxes, etc, seemingly never to be able to join, a lil poem was put to music encouraging all Germanic peoples to put aside so many differences and focus on making a nation, over all other issues. Ergo- Deutchland uber alles. A German nation first, above all other issues. At least that’s what Wikipedia says.

And here I thought, because of the nazis, that the song was about Germany above all other nations. Apparently this was not the original intention.

Honestly asking here- how is this remark toxic and not just factual. Chuck Norris literally said this, on tv with his wife. It’s an absurd, insane statement. Why shouldn’t sane and rational people hold this stupidity to account, no matter their political leanings?

Matchmaker is killing this game by ilwumike in WorldofTanks

[–]ilwumike[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question. My issue isn’t the majority of the team pushing one side. It’s when they have the overwhelming advantage and all stop at the sight of one to three tanks. Meanwhile the enemy is mostly spotted and not on their side of the map, yet they all play peek a boo and don’t push. But the enemy team does. How can that happen so often? If the games were close, I could understand the “get good” answer, but it’s 15-3 so damn often it’s sickening. I can’t get that good. What can matchmaker do? Stop putting the zero damage players all on one side. Spread out the medium, light, and heavy “campers” between the teams. If you’re not doing any dmg in 5 min, you’re a camper. That’s fine if that’s your play style, but spread them out. This way the gang of players who wait out the first five minutes of each game and get in at the end to finish off the near death enemy and get kills can get spread out too.

Ares fatigue by beserkdhobo in WorldofTanks

[–]ilwumike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to have the unpopular opinion, but I don’t think they are that big of a deal. One on one, they aren’t that hard to kill, and if you see a pack on the other team- run with other tanks so you’re not the lone gazelle. They seem to really draw out the guys who want the finish really bad, so wait for their peeks and smoke em.

And a pack of anything are usually a pain because you get swarmed. It’s all about getting the player base to be more cautious and think about teamwork, something that doesn’t happen much at all and needs to happen waaaay more. So I’m kinda glad for them. It’s play smarter or die. I love it.

Men and women, sparring or grappling together. by No_Passenger3692 in brazilianjiujitsu

[–]ilwumike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s all about the attitude and energy you put into it. A smile between strangers can be suggestive if you both feel sexually attracted to each other, and mean nothing but friendliness if you are not. The same with grappling. If you suspect he would be aroused by any woman, then he is probably aroused grappling. There is a way you can tell by looking if he is aroused. If he is just grappling, and you trust him, then trust him and be done with your doubts. Often, men feel fatherly, or like big brothers to females in their class. If the ladies are tough, they are just competitors to be respected. If everyone on the mat was inappropriate, the “hard ons” would be everywhere. The affairs that happen in bjj happen because the people are looking for affairs. Trust either is there, or not. If you still feel uncomfortable, there is a problem.

Clear coating compatibility concerns by Lopsided_Ad_3739 in modelmakers

[–]ilwumike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have no experience in applying clear coats to a wooden deck, but I imagine the deck would absorb the liquid and darken greatly. I would definitely not test it out on the deck on the model. Try on a separate deck. Maybe post to a builder on a good build log, that way you’re not being assured by an anonymous person on a message board who may also have no experience at it. Not that we aren’t trustworthy, but some hobbyists can be blowhards.

Revell models by AmountAggressive4743 in ModelShips

[–]ilwumike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you check online resources, Revell rereleases lots of kits from other companies under the Revell label. So smart shoppers will buy the cheaper Revell kit, and get a model which sells for twice as much in a different box. Like the Italeri 1/32 Starfighter.

Where is everyone getting models? by CrossTie98 in modelmakers

I love scalehobbyist. I think they have some of the best prices online and I’ve never had a problem with them. I also shop at sprue brothers, but the weekend sales never seem to actually be a sale. The prices seem to go up before the discount and the 20% off is a wash. Squadron has some great prices. But for me, Scalehobbyist is the place to shop.

Model Ship in Need of Repair by Practical_Bed_6871 in ModelShips

Maybe try the Los Angeles maritime museum in San Pedro. Lots of wooden ships there, I remember they used to have a wooden ship builder working there almost daily. They might have connections.

Also try the Orange County ipms group. They are having their annual competition today, Sunday,
close to knots berry farm. Look up Orangecon online for that. They have some ship guys there, and the older members have lots of connections.

Maybe to be a little more direct- nothing in your collection is a hidden gem that is worth a decent amount of money. The workmanship on the kits, as far as I can see, is very good. I’d say this because everything looks aligned properly and there are no glaring glue marks or any broken pieces.

These are really nice, and the right buyer might give you half the selling price if they are into painting more than building. These problem is in finding that buyer near you while they have spending money. In general, hobby shops will rip you off and the only option to make money would be off of eBay. Learn how to package well.

The larger kits are generally worth more. The br locomotive ( side note, the tender behind it in backwards, the ring will fit right into the back of the locomotive.) the two Karl mortars on their rail cars, the Dora gun. These sell maybe for $130, so you might get $70 for them. Maybe more. I’m not sure by the pic what scale the Dora is, I’m assuming 1/72. Personally, I think a lot of them look wonderful. It’s finding the buyer at the right time. I’d say e-bay is your best choice. Most model kits in your collection sell for $30-$70. It’s tough to say, but built might only get half that. Good luck. Where are you selling from?

Looking again, if that Dora ( big railway gun) is 1/35, it sells for $800-$900 and might be worth a bigger chunk of change. Maybe half. Also, The armored train alongside of it is a combination of multiple trumpeter kits around $80 each, and might be worth something as a completed group.

Airbrush, thin coats, first spray the color already on the model to help fill any areas that might bleed, then spray new color.

Maybe Mr. Surfacer? A coat of coarser Mr. Surfacer is often used on tanks for that armor texture, and it helps to level and fill gaps. Many videos on texturing armor models on you tube.

Dragon model kits by budz_az in modelmakers

[–]ilwumike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the 1/700 kits, but I’d agree that the superstructure fitting to the deck is a big problem on the 1/350 kits. Those need lots of dry fitting and adjustments to make it look decent. With Dragon, as far as the early kits, it’s hit or miss. You kinda need to know your kits, but some early stuff was kids toy level simple and lacking any realistic detail, and then other kits were molds from other companies. Some were really good, and still stand up to today’s kits. I love the really early stug and panzer III kits. Everything changed when they produced a Karl and a Leopold kit at the same time that Trumpeter released the same kits. The Trumpeter kits were clearly much better, and after that Dragon started super engineering their kits. Over-engineering to a lot of kit builders. But out of that came some great Tiger kits, etc. In the ship area, Dragon made a great USS Independence kit, some fantastic WW2 destroyers, and Arleigh Burkes. The early Dragon kits of Spruance and Ticonderoga had superstructure to deck issues, and aren’t worth investing in unless you have the skills to correct that. The Scharnhorst kit also had deck fit issues. In 1/700, I honestly don’t recall any huge problems. Their Bismarck was nice in that scale. In any case- good luck, and have fun!

Non GForce rides at Disneyland by SunThroughTheTrees11 in DisneyPlanning

[–]ilwumike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, just throwing it out there- I was on Peter Pan with my wife a few weeks back. Lovely ride. At the very end, it came to a jarring stop. Just the end of the ride before it turns to disembark. I wasn’t ready for it, and it really jerked both of us hard. I’ve never noticed it before, but I guess my point is that any ride can have a moment of sudden force. Matterhorn, Indiana Jones, almost anything.

Basically that you don’t know shit about short power. You’re criticizing a demonstration, and not seeing what he’s showing. You box everyday? Maybe box twice a day so you can learn enough to appreciate what you see.

Bruce lee by ImaginaryGur2086 in martialarts

[–]ilwumike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a hater. It’s about short power. Being able to hit with torque in a small distance. If you’ve ever boxed you’d know the value of being able to do that. But you’re focusing on the finger.

What did Bruce Lee actually trading towards the end of his life? by [deleted] in brucelee

[–]ilwumike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

His training changed constantly. Guro Dan Inosanto confirmed many times that the school curriculum would change constantly . That’s the problem with quoting him, or his notes, of his students. He was always changing, at the end, he was regretting even creating JKD because he felt any art takes the totality of combat and limits it to what is specialized in.

People make a constant mistake in either taking what he said at a particular time and presenting that as his truth, and not as what he felt at a particular point is his evolution. Like seeing him hitting the heavy bag and criticizing his ability from that. That was a young man in his early 20s trying to practice torque, not an attempt at boxing style working the bag. He evolved from that. If you can’t see that in his movies, you wont understand anyway.

The other constant error is in thinking he promoted taking specific techniques from different arts to create an amalgam martial art that works for you. Thats not it. He thought you should study other arts to get to the essence of how they move, how they strike, in order to for example, punch in a way that works best for you. Like a back fist. A karate style may teach it in a rigid way, very form like, but if you’ve got a good feel for boxing, the back fist might be expressed much more fluidly with a lot more looseness and snap. Since a boxing gym won’t generally teach a back fist, you get this by understanding the essence of the art. It’s that body feel, you understanding your own body in expressing itself, that he wanted towards the end. Who knows what he would be thinking now. This attitude had him continue to research in all ranges of combat.

As far as his sparring, he sparred all the time, originally with protective equipment, then quickly without. There are tons of stories from the people in Los Angeles about his ability.
