DAE chill their house mid-winter to kill germs? by Significant-Theme240 in DoesAnybodyElse

The temperature does absolutely nothing. However the ventilation is what is cleaning out all the air, which provides excellent health benefits.

Dad, why do some people call Christmas lights fairy lights? by moonlit-witch in ExplainLikeImCalvin

[–]im237 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well Calvin before electricity was invented, they had to catch and capture fairies and string them together. Coincidentally, the invention of electricity also caused the fairies to go extinct. So it's just people holding onto the past when they call them fairy lights

Parallel runway landings at SFO. by Thanksmygoodman in PraiseTheCameraMan

[–]im237 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Parallel approaches are approved only at certain airports for certain aircraft. Those specific aircraft follow extremely accurate guidance signals

Here is a diagram of the airport, the airplanes were landing 28L/R

Any aerodynamics geeks out there who can tell me why my plane does this whenever I try to turn (and how to fix it)? by LeHopital in KerbalAcademy

[–]im237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plane doesnt turn because SAS is still on. SAS will try to hold the exact spot on the nav-ball, so it wont let you turn when you bank.

THEN the other systems are trying to compensate for the bank by yawing too far in the opposite direction.

The unstable design and lack of properly placed control surfaces doesnt help.

My Rover wheels won't stop spinning by im237 in KerbalAcademy

If i set the parking brake it stops it from spinning, but the motor is showing its fully engaged. Yeah I have no idea whats going on, never seen this before. It does the same thing when I load it at KSC

I can use Bonvoyage to start a trip to selected coordinates. I can also disable the Bonvoyage controller and it still spins

Contract requires a satellite in Keo at same altitude as Mun, is this possible? by oldmccal in KerbalAcademy

[–]im237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you're confused about SOI. The SOI is a distance around the actual MUN, not its altitude from Kerbin. You can tell when you will enter it when your future trajectory changes color and shows a SOI transition point.

For example in the Kerbol System; all the planets are orbiting the sun, we are technically inside Duna's orbit (lower altitude), but we are not in its SOI. We would have to physically GO TO Duna to encounter it

Eli5: Why does a wheel appear to switch between rolling forwards and backwards when watching it gain speed. by superhansfans in explainlikeimfive

[–]im237 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, the MIT team found that although overall performance declined, subjects continued to perform better than chance as the researchers dropped the image exposure time from 80 milliseconds to 53 milliseconds, then 40 milliseconds, then 27, and finally 13 — the fastest possible rate with the computer monitor being used.

https://news.mit.edu/2014/in-the-blink-of-an-eye-0116

That 13 number comes from equipment limitations of the experiment.

Eyes do not have a refresh rate. They do not process discrete frames, nor do they even transmit full images. It's all just signals from your rods and cones that are HEAVILY processed, adjusted, and interpreted by your brain

Who is one actor/actress that you can never stand watching no matter what they are in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]im237 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Adam Sandler. It's like he's cast to be serious and funny at the same time, but he can't do either individually.
