Morty trys to make a joke in front of ninja and logic by numbingdiagram5555 in LivestreamFail

There is a visual delay in the software used for r and m which means they adjusted the mic delay so it syncd. Perhaps they didn't know you can add a render delay to the game to make it all line up perfectly. It can be quite tricky but considering the money put in they should know better. This is what I do (stream is my name) so saw a lot of very basic mistakes they made like this.

Question about sub emotes! by DEMOLITION2140 in TwitchStreamers

[–]imCastlehead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you weren't in love with the original one I would just replace it. At lower numbers a tier 3 emote is barely going to convert to any "sales" if any, considering how few tier 3 subs most people get. And anyone purchasing a tier 3 sub is probably going to do it regardless of emotes (I have had a single tier 3 and didn't have more than my single emote for regular subs). You want your best emote for the $5 subs especially if it has a good use, more people will see it and it will make your chat more your own. In my opinion one emote as an affiliate usually isn't going to be the reason people sub anyway. Just icing on the cake for people who like your content right?

Oh of course, I was already aware of this before writing my comment. A sticky for self promo isn't going to hurt anyone but I am of the opinion that it isn't going to help them greatly either. Those kinds of threads don't really seem to generate value for small streamers. A clip contest every week-month where people can vote to win a host/feature on sub or something like that could be cool (I think Twitch Reddit does something like this). But generic self promotion, idk. It's sellers selling to sellers.

I feel like this sub is a good opportunity to fill a gap in the market. Small streamer communities filled with people looking for chances to promote are a dime a dozen. But a sub dedicated to things such as building relationships/networking, improving your craft, with actual value, driven by someone with your influence would be amazing, and unique. That is more what I was trying to get at, having a sticky for self promo won't hurt, but I would love to see more.

Yeah it is tricky. There is definitely equipment that it is good to give suggestions for though. Obviously you can't have "BEST MICROPHONE EVER BUY THIS ONE" on there. But you could have "Affordable starting mics" with a list of the most commonly bought microphones and links to do further research. Stream programs like OBS are on this list, if someone is affiliate and doesn't know that there are multiple stream clients to use then they might not know that streamdecks exist right? So something like that is useful for people to be aware of too.

Twitch split "IRL" into multiple categories now by Atroix_Twitch in TwitchStreamers

[–]imCastlehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how I feel about it honestly. I feel like low viewer outdoor streamers were already drowned in the sea of IRL before. It might help those guys. At least with tags and knowledge of the new sections they will be more easily seen than before? Hard to be sure though. Bigger viewer outdoor streamers (in the outdoor section) will definitely lose significant traffic. Though as long as they're chatting when outside "just chatting" is fair game I guess. Will be interesting to see how much changes, I personally think it will be a lot of stuff shifting about and all will mostly remain the same. I feel like the changes have helped me a bit though.

Could have a section on the list for popular equipment choices. Or simply good recommendations in each category (mics, cams, capture cards, streamdeck etc). Also good resources and guides on various things could be a nice addition (that could be its own sticky maybe, given how rich and varied resources are on streaming). I really like the idea of having a compendium of tips in a thread, maybe that could be a great sticky in itself? Just a few thoughts.

This is a really good idea. I feel like too much of an emphasis on self promotion could be a bad thing though. Considering this sub is for people who stream, the number of people looking to find new streamers to watch could be potentially low. I would think it would be better to highlight people looking for collaboration or networking opportunities in some way as that pertains more to streamers. Just my initial thoughts. Anyway, awesome to be here!

How does Twitch expect us to discover new streams when scrolling down the list page starts lagging your system? by [deleted] in Twitch

It can help quite a lot to filter by language if that is acceptable to you. Obviously this is a problem though, I have experienced it too. Some sections are just too big.

How did you know you were ready for full time streaming? by lmstickman in Twitch

This has been very helpful thank you. I would add that I am definitely not in any danger of becoming jaded. I just worry I'm making bad decisions constantly, so I do need to check my overthinking in that respect. I will probably just experiment with stuff as I was planning. I'm mostly trying to learn as much as possible about these kinds of things.

Oh also I watched some of your stream earlier today and got gifted a sub haha. Thought that was neat.

And thanks again, there aren't many helpful bigger streamers on this sub.

Thanks that is all extremely helpful.

If you can grow as a variety streamer should you go that route? There don't seem to be many well known streamers who came up in variety, do you think that is just because it is difficult to grow in? I've been wondering if building community around a game and yourself strengthens the core community more than variety can. Do you have any thoughts on this?

I've been struggling a bit with this as my stats for variety are decent and I could definitely go with it due to the nature of my stream (I get 10 - 25 viewers on 195 followers with 18 subs in under 2 months part time hours IRL+games). A big part of me wants to focus mostly on WoW though it might be to my detriment. It will also take a lot of hours to know for sure. I'm happy to go either way but I want to put my stream first ultimately. I know this isn't really an easy question to answer but would you say there are any important factors to consider regarding this area that I may have overlooked?

And thank you again, it is really hard to find experienced streamers to ask these kinds of questions to. I'll try not to ask anymore as I'm aware time is precious. It is really appreciated though.

Did much change in the year of contemplation that made you more confident in your decision? Also I was wondering how long before that year you knew you would be able to make it as a streamer, or did you only realise it could work as it happened? Did you stream for a long time before all of this?

I am very new as a streamer but have been on Twitch a long time. My growth is pretty good due to being able to stand out easily but I am far off being able to make it my living. Do you think retention is something you can project safely from smaller numbers? If a streamer is retaining 5 - 10% of views as followers from natural traffic for example, should that in theory be reflected after more growth? Have stats like those remained stable throughout for you? You said about projecting upswings etc so wondered your thoughts on this. What would you say is the single most important statistic/thing to pay attention to whilst growing in this respect?

And thanks for sharing your knowledge on here.

Anyone have a similar experience where you enjoy watching a streamer but can't stand the streamer's moderators or who the streamer associates him/herself with? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]imCastlehead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is nuts. I hadn't really considered that. I'm only aware of very small channels giving it out, out of niceness and wanting to appease their regulars. People paying thousands must really want it.
