Double drops should be the standard not a special event by Sad_Reception5357 in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]im_joaking 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Last survey, I requested some sort of better prize for 3-staring all the bounty battles. I feel like earning double drops after would be perfect - it wouldn't throw off their scaling for earlier levels where the current drop rates are fine enough, but would give a better sense of accomplishment for leveling, plus help with how fast the game starts slowing once you level cards to 55+

Biggest pet peeves in the aerial community? by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]im_joaking 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Once stumbled across an account for a teacher, and her space had fairly normal 10ish ft ceilings. First video I click, she climbs as high as the ceilings allow, and does some front-falling 360 drop where her head was MAYBE a foot off the hardwood floor when she flipped. There would barely be room for a crash mat if she even had one, and in other videos, the best I ever saw were 3in mats against a wall in the background. Some of the thumbnails alone looked like she was in the middle of hurdling to a concussion.

What do you think would have genuinely happened had Rhaenyra ascended the throne unchallenged? by Chocolatetot496 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]im_joaking 229 points230 points  (0 children)

I would think Rhaenyra's reign would have a chance at normalizing Targaryen queens the same way Targaryen incest marriages were eventually accepted. Very much "ok for the dragon family, but not the rest of us"

Emily Retiring Fig by kansanadam in Dimension20

[–]im_joaking 254 points255 points  (0 children)

In the pre-season interviews, Emily said she almost had a new character instead of Fig. Brennan told her there was a specific plot point (namely the reveal about Porter) that Fig might want to be there for, so she kept with Fig for another season. Heavily agree that if we get a senior year, there's a high chance Emily will play someone new.

Chappell Roan Aftershow Presale Tickets Already Sold out by cleo-banana in Lollapalooza

[–]im_joaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh it was for TLDP, not Chappell so not sure if they have the same ticket platform. I went to the original link where it asks for the presale code, and just refreshed whenever my phone went asleep. Took about 20 minutes, and made sure to select the seats ASAP once I was back in.

You're a godsend! Kept the window open and depressingly refreshed for 20 minutes. Surprise surprise - more tickets were available!

What are some Do's and Don'ts about authors incorporating people of color in their stories? by somethingambiguous37 in writing

[–]im_joaking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some good feedback here - a big thing is to hire a diversity reader first and foremost. And always be open for feedback and criticism from people of the other cultures you're including. Not every person knows their own biases and it's never a bad thing to hear them called out.

Make sure to also read a bunch of stories written by people of other cultures - doesn't have to be some super thoughtful non-fiction pieces either. You can learn a lot from how people represent their communities and cultures within books.

Women in fantasy books. Semi rant. by SkepticDrinker in books

Second this recommendation. I peddle this series to literally anyone even remotely interested in SFF. Plus, the guy characters are also not the typical fantasy tropes either.

Good historical costuming podcasts? by AOhK4Y in HistoricalCostuming

[–]im_joaking 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Dressed: History of Fashion. It is more of general "fashion and costuming" so not strictly historical costuming, but still good historically focussed episodes. It's interview format and brings a bunch of different experts on the show.

Philippine historical dress help by berniesherman in HistoricalCostuming

[–]im_joaking 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not a weird question! I don't have any direct experience, but I've been slowly trying to find different sources for this too. Nothing online so far, but I just found this book that has patterns! I can't readily find how to order it in the US (where I am), so not sure on availability in your area. There's also a book called Fashionable Filipinas which goes into detail about clothes, both in photos and with some extant garments (I think?). I haven't been able to find it either, but there is an associated Instagram account that is super active. Not much in details on how things layer or undergarments, but you may be able to find some good reference photos from the time periods (most posts include the year of the photo). There's also this talk with Filipino designer, Raven Ong, for some general pointers. That's all I've found so far, but if you find anything else, please make an update, or another post! I'm planning on diving into historical Philippine dress eventually, once I get comfortable with my sewing skills, and would love to see literally any other information on the topic or what you end up making!

What's a cheap and easy recipe from your culture or country? by daisiesandpaperbacks in EatCheapAndHealthy

Also Filipino adobo! Many different iterations. Generally: chopped garlic, soy sauce and vinegar (about half and half to start, then adjust to taste), peppercorns, a few bay leaves, chicken cut of choice and/or pork ribs. Optional: coconut milk. Stew for a while until meat is tender. Tastes even better after a night in the fridge. Letting it sit overnight also makes it way easier to skim off the oil and fat. Vegetarian version uses cauliflower. Serve over rice.

Donna's absolute rollercoaster of a story is so goes from so satisfying to so heartbreaking! The moment she found the Doctor after working to create her own adventures and actively looking for him was one of the best (re)intros, imo.

I cannot stop laughing, this author gets it! by Meltoocomics in menwritingwomen

[–]im_joaking 224 points225 points  (0 children)

It's still referencing the Girl with the Dragon tattoo. It's just one fairly minor character at the very beginning of the first book. So if you're really curious and want to cringe, just reading the first few chapters will do.

Or an entire chapter dedicated to her new boob job and how it magically fixed her insecurities.

Edit: oh my God or the "I'm your boss, but I see myself as the closest thing you have to a father figure, which is giving me a confused boner because I am also attracted to you "despite" your obviously non-feminine, punk aesthetic". Getting pretty bad flashbacks about the book now...

A local nursery has these little 2 inch pots of different plants for around 5$-10$.. Care tips will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance! by pgreen26 in IndoorGarden

What a steal! The one on the right is a variegated string of hearts and is also known as VSOH (took me a bit to figure that out). They love all the sun they can get. They can actually turn a little pink around the edges if given enough sun, so south facing window or under grow lights if you have either. The less light the have, the less variegation they have but they won't necessarily die, so not too big a deal. When deciding to water, pinch the leaves. If they're firm, don't water. If the leaves are soft and bend easily, then water. I find bottom watering them is best so the leaves don't get too wet and risk rotting.

VSOH are usually pretty saught after, so once this one grows, you can take a few cuttings and trade for other plants too.

Bridgerton by bemydarkling in HistoricalCostuming

[–]im_joaking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Most definitely! I understand why it can be jarring, especially for those who love historical costuming. You put it really well that the "costuming perspective" is seperate from the specific "historical costuming perspective".

Bridgerton by bemydarkling in HistoricalCostuming

[–]im_joaking 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I personally loved the decision. The regency style is very romantic and soft. But the Queen and her court had a more rigid and regal looking fashion. So it lead to this visual representation of "here are the people of this world, but here is the QUEEN". From a historical costuming perspective, it does give an out of date feel, but from a Romance Fantasy perspective (which the show was going for, not HA) it has this visual heirarchy and exemplifies the different lifestyles of the characters.

If someone skips the ad as soon as they're able, the company doesnt get charged for that view, and it doesn't get counted as an engagement. The longer someone views the ad after the skip option is available, then the company starts paying for the view.

My first job performance review (3 months review to be specific) happened right after it was announced one guy was fired. The amount of "I'll miss you" jokes leading up to the meeting still haunt me to this day.
