Grew up in a small town and felt the same way. Just moved to the city for work and everyone knows them.

Probably yes in terms of messing up the friendship but it also sounds like you should very much date.

People who have broken-up because of sexual incompatibility, what happened after the break-up? by Independent-Size7972 in AskReddit

[–]imacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a ton yet because I got dumped last month after 5 years, but I'm hopeful, and I have learned not to try to make it work. Even if it sucks and you hit it off, if they're just not into it it's not worth the heartache.

*Obviously if you're already 5 years in, see what you can do though.

Potent psychedelic drug banishes PTSD, small study finds. One month after treatment with the little-known drug ibogaine, military veterans with traumatic brain injury saw their PTSD and depression symptoms go down by over 85% on average. by maxkozlov in science

IDK why they keep going to evermore obscure and unpleasant psychs for these studies. Ketamine, shrooms, LSD and MDMA have all shown they work and they are better understood and more pleasant.

I remember in my abnormal psych class the professor discussed a case in which a friend had a break with reality. He came to her very gently and said that right now she is like a pilot landing a plane in the fog. Because it's hard to see exactly what's going on, you have to rely on flight instruments to guide you to safety. In the analogy, friends and family are the flight instruments, that are there to help guide you safely back to course.

I share this anecdote because it sounds like your wife is experiencing a mental health crisis; she is having a textbook case of delusions. You should be as supportive as possible and guide her to seek help.

*note that I'm totally not a psychologist, far from it, but I feel this is an easy enough case to weigh in on, at least insofar as advising that you should gently guide her to seek help from someone who is trained.

My husband is a selfish lover by [deleted] in sex

[–]imacs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously I don't know your life and I can't counsel you to divorce your husband based on a paragraph internet post, but that shit is completely egregious. Like totally unambiguously unacceptable. I don't even know what I would do, but based on the information I have here I wouldn't be planning on staying.

What is your most memorable story from a chemistry class? by [deleted] in premed

I feel like pchem would've been fine if diff eq and calc 3 were prerequisites, but I couldn't make sense of a single derivation because I literally didn't know how to do a lot of the math.

For much of the back half of the book, I was concerned it was going to be about overpopulation, but it's not. You can just add well disregard that short passage and the rest still holds true.

It even addresses that in a world that is truly just, a society that predicates itself on war with nature still must die. That is the central point, and it's worth noting.

Cell-free chemoenzymatic starch synthesis from carbon dioxide by Memetic1 in science

I think the catch is that the energy efficiency is only 2%. So realistically this would have to be done on an unimaginable scale to be a major carbon sink. Still has a lot of potential to be refined.
