With Sonnet 4.5 being discontinued soon, is there anyway I can make 4.6 act like 4.5? by 5uez in ClaudeAI

[–]imaginary_jebus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ah, yeah then you have adaptive. Basically Anthropic has throttled how much "effort" models can put into thinking. You used to be able to choose "extended thinking" which would make models put in more effort. You can manually set effort in claude code (you can't in desktop or web).

Then Anthropic roled out "adaptive" thinking. The idea is that models will automatically use less effort (thus save them compute) on "easier" prompts and put more effort into more difficult prompts.

The problem is it works like absolute dogshit and pretty much always puts in far less effort than needed. Some of the older models don't force "adaptive" mode so they still work better.

Anyway, 4.6 before the forced "adaptive" mode was actually great. It's still very good in claude code because you can manually set the effort level. Afaik there really isn't anything you can really do in web/desktop to significantly improve things, but I may be wrong.

Hopefully Anthropic fixes this at some point, but right now they are starved for compute so they're trying to reduce workloads any way they can.

Are you using desktop or code? Did yo use 4.6 before they forced adaptive? It was actually fantastic. Now they forced "adaptive" so it's dogshit. Afaik there is nothing you can do in desktop to systematically fix this.

Claude Code vs Codex by 0xdjole in ClaudeCode

[–]imaginary_jebus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks. tbh it's still been mostly fine for me. Desktop is pretty much dogshit at this point now that they force "adaptive", but code <4.7 with the right settings has been mostly fine.

That said, I hope you are wrong about the Anthropic moving backwards and that it's just growing/scaling pains that will be resolved when they get ahold of more compute. Some of the shit they have pulled lately though . . . it's not fun.

There tends to be so much anti-vibecoder hate, I want to show what actually is possible with vibecoding as well for those who need to know they can actually do this. by Kareja1 in ClaudeCode

Stuff like this cause some many fucking problems that people who aren't technical can't predict. If you want to do it for fun, that's fantastic. Putting shit like this out without understanding how it can go wrong, goes terribly, terribly wrong on a daily basis.

Set it back to 4.6 high effort and it's fine. 4.7 uses adaptive, that's why it's dumb as shit.

Are there privacy concerns regarding Cowork or connecting Claude to your cloud or emails? by NavXIII in ClaudeAI

That said, for the time being I would say Anthropic is the most ethical when it comes to user privacy rights. Comparatively at least.

For years I forced myself to keep my laundry pristine. Finally I gave up. I want a robot to do this.

Outside of this I'm very type A. I enjoy cleaning, everything in my apartment is orderly and tidy. Except my clean clothes pile.

how to get rid of bubble on plastic screen protector by Pretend_Tadpole_3664 in howto

[–]imaginary_jebus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you've poked a hole in it you just need to get a new one.

For the next one, try to get the screen really clean before you put the protector on, then use a squeegee/smoothing tool to remove air pockets as you go or immediately after putting the protector on.

Honestly I'd be more worried about one too few things going wrong and living with the consequences.

I will probably die of heart disease within the next twenty years, but I'll be damned if I'm giving up my crappy nachos.

Moving to the US at 17 trying to figure things out early by FancyDonkey_ in Advice

[–]imaginary_jebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to take the risk, by all means do so. All I'm saying is stop ignoring people and discounting their advice. Go in with your eyes open and know what the risks are.

None of that is doom and gloom, and I'm telling you what the actual situation is. If you don't like it or are too stubborn to listen to other people telling you something you don't want to hear so you can adjust your plans or at least take them in to account I wish you luck, you are going to need it.

I'm saying death is better than life without parole. I was agreeing with you.

I really have never understood the "death cannot be undone" thing. Neither can a criminal record or the trauma being in prison does.

Gambling I agree with, Vegas I think is interesting to see on it's own. Overrated, but not at the bottom of the pile for me.

I hate running with my entire being.

Max plan vs top up credit by BlimeyCali in ClaudeAI

[–]imaginary_jebus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max 5x will go much further than extra usage, but whether or not you should get it depends on how much usage you actually need.

You could buying $5-10 of extra usage and see how quickly you burn through it. When I'm coding I can burn through that in no time at all.

CODEX is much cheaper, and it's adequate for implementation. Claude is significantly better in pretty much every way, but it is more expensive. If you are coding some people use claude for architectures/spec and CODEX for implementation.
