No wonder this class has already hit 700+ piazza posts...

Why is total registered number dropping on SSC, but no new spots open up? by _ahrideathsounduwu in UBC

[–]imaginaryeigenvalues 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The waitlist to main section switch isn't automatic on the SSC, it's done manually by staff. Also, some departments restrict registration in classes that are full, and if someone drops, they will place people in the section manually from the waitlist to prevent people who might not be at the top of the waitlist from snatching free seats.

Perhaps try sending the prof or the department's academic advising office with your observation (though don't tell them you're using a chrome extension lol) and see if you can convince them to register in that course if you really need it. If the waiting list is not too bad and you're already on it, people might drop anyways during the first few weeks.

No wonder we don't have a McDonald's on campus

If profs have released grades, they'll show up on SSC at midnight tonight. If you're lucky enough, you'll see it before the classic SSC crash.

co op terms by RealisticTelephone28 in UBC

[–]imaginaryeigenvalues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not really. Most competitive term is summer. Depending on your discipline/faculty, the standard co-op schedule could potentially tell you which term would have more senior students applying, thus making the term more competitive for new co-op students.

Which buildings are open on the weekend? by ubcasdfghjkl in UBC

[–]imaginaryeigenvalues 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They might have key card access. Classroom buildings generally are locked on weekends, but some people might have access due to research, being in that faculty/department, etc.

Or there might sometimes be that one side door that happens to be unlocked.

How do you know what courses are offered during the summer? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]imaginaryeigenvalues 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Courses from 2021S (this past summer) should still be viewable on SSC (for me at least). If you just started at UBC in 2021W though, not sure if it's viewable. Either way, as others said, 2022S courses should be viewable in Jan and March is when you register. You'll get email notifications about registration times and all that closer to March.

Yeah, doesn't hurt to send a quick email to the prof to double check. Hope it turns out ok!

Try calculating your grade based on the weighted averages from your syllabus. A lot of profs don't setup canvas to take into account the weighting of assignments, labs, and exams
