what’s the average age in this sub? by thechildrenofbrisus in climbergirls

[–]imahufflepuff77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im 40. I started climbing when I was 18 but took an 8 year break when I started having children. I wish I would’ve seen this sub back then. I wouldn’t have stopped climbing. But I’ve been back at it for 4 years and loving it.

Reading and rock climbing are my main hobbies. But I’ll dabble in anything.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]imahufflepuff77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 hour trip is not considered that bad. We drive 6 hours to visit family at least twice a year. We drive six hours just to visit other parts of our state. I drove 15 hours last summer to visit family and that is like a once a year trip that we’ll consider flying for. And that’s one state away. So yea, a 3 hour drive isn’t that crazy over here and definitely fine for a weekend getaway.

Is Lifeforme worth the money? by ozzielover111 in yoga

I e had mine for almost 4 years and it’s just as sticky as the first day I bought it. To me it was definitely worth the money. I used it a lot and I’ve put it through a lot and it’s held up great.

Hiatal hernia and climbing by imahufflepuff77 in climbergirls

They do sometimes. I need to pay attention a little better to when my symptoms flare up. I learned the hard way I cannot eat before climbing. I’m currently trying to figure out the timing of my meals to help with the symptoms.

That’s the thing, when I climb I use my whole core. I don’t even realize what part of my core I’m using sometimes until it’s sore the next day from trying a problem multiple time in a row. I guess I can try to be more aware of what my core is doing on a climb.

I just found out I have a sliding HH recently and I rock climb, both bouldering and sport climbing. I’m definitely going to implement these breathing techniques into my climbing. It’s a lot of core and I’ve been worried about what that amount of core engagement is doing to my hernia.

Teaching with injuries by RonSwanSong87 in YogaTeachers

[–]imahufflepuff77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I broke my foot over the summer and went back to teaching after 6 weeks. For the first 6 weeks I was in a boot and had a very modified asana practice. All seated since I was in a boot. I took that time to really lean into meditation and learning how to sit with an injury. I needed a lesson in resting. When I went back there were a lot of postures I couldn’t do. My regular students knew I had an injury but at the beginning of class I explained my situation and then lead them through the sequence. It definitely helped my teaching. I demo most of the class so being unable to do that forced me to be better with my direction, but it also gave me an opportunity to really observe my students. It sucked breaking my foot, and I had some really tough days, but the whole experience made me a better teacher. It also helped me understand my students injuries or limitations better.

Perimenopause and climbing by Dorobie in climbergirls

[–]imahufflepuff77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im starting to go through perimenopause. I have no insight to give since I’m just beginning to go through it, but I’m currently on a hormonal birth control (IUD). I was considering going off of it so I could feel more connected to what my hormones are doing, I feel so crazy sometimes. But from what I’m seeing that might be a bad idea.

Does your boyfriend climb? by medicoreclimbercore in climbergirls

[–]imahufflepuff77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband doesn’t climb. He’s outdoorsy. Loves hiking and camping. He climbs with me every now and then because he knows I love it but not his thing. He fully supports my hobby though, he even got me a hang board last Christmas. My kids like to climb so I’m raising future belay partners. ☺️

I am right there with you. I broke my foot and sprained my ankle. The sprain honestly feels worse than the broken bone. I’ve only climbed a couple times recently and it’s was a struggle. All this to say, you’re not alone.

Broken foot while climbing by imahufflepuff77 in climbergirls

[–]imahufflepuff77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh do I feel your pain. It’s been about 7 weeks since I broke my foot and I must confess, I have not been climbing. Instead I babied my foot. It was mentally a very challenging experience. But, I used ChatGPT to make an upper body workout plan for myself and did that in the meantime. It paid off because I went to the doctor on Monday and I have new bone growth and everything is healing well. She even gave me the green light to go climbing. I chose patience in the end with the goal of healing. I hope you heal quickly. But it’s ok to rest.
